I had an account. For 5 minutes. Seriously. I created it, looked around, and decided I didn't want to subscribe to something that's pretty much the status bar on MySpace. Another site at which I don't have an account. Same with Facebook.

Every time I check a blog these days everyone wants to exhibit their "Recent Tweets."

Is there any real point to it other than desperately wanting people to know what you're doing and thinking every time you sit at your computer?

A blog I follow sometimes posted this today. I can't help but agree completely:

I am on MySpace and Facebook, but largely it is to keep in contact with people I don't see often. From everything I have seen about Twitter it seems that it is trying to be different, but it is dumber... and therefore more popular... and therefore everything else emulates it.

Same with me from Myspace but most of my friends decided that they didn't want to follow the Myspace crowd anymore and be an individual... and follow a bunch of people to Facebook. It looks about the same with Twitter, sadly.

I'd have to both agree and disagree with you about it being dumber. It's just thoughts in 140 characters, and however people choose to use Twitter is what makes it unique for them.

I recently shut down the outgoing twitter feed to my LJ because I'm sick of seeing it. I know what I tweeted during the day.

I use Twitter as a push for talking to people in place of IM or e-mail or Facebook, keeping up with blogs and other blog-ish Tweeters, and advertising for my webcomic.

Then, just as Elara, I'm on Facebook to keep up with everyone I left 400 miles away.

Earlier this week when I had to contact this professor about a profile story on him, he didn't e-mail me for a couple days, and then when he finally did it was a link to his Twitter account.

I clicked, and it pretty much read, "Off to New Orleans. Toodles!"

I checked it again as I am writing this. It now reads, "In New Orleans: As we go from analog to digital, are we losing the capacity to think in metaphor and symbolism with such clean 0s and 1s?"

So yeah, I felt bad for my assigning editor that day. I made it up to him the next day, though, helping with the special edition.

But seriously? Using Twitter to blow off an interview? It's not quite a text message breakup, but what the hell?

I don't need to follow the MySpace crowd since I actually met some of those people in real life even though they have MySpace accounts. I can NEVER add anyone I met in real life which is quite bullshit for me.

We do realize that my layout has a Twitter feed box in it, right?

I love Twitter. But, I don't really do the EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY MINUTE thing. I do the annoy people with random updates thing. Like when I'm peeing.

Or whatever the bloody fuck I actually do/talk about.

Most of the time, it's New Comic - here's a link.

Or, fuck off.

Ahahahahahahahaha.

I have to go with Stitch on this one. Well, really everyone, since if people noticed, he isn't against using it. Just against using it with the utmost stupidity.

I could really care less anyway. I rarely use that stuff anymore. I'm considering getting into Twitter though, mostly for reasons like Stitch. To update people on new work I'm putting out. (I just don't have enough to put up seriously, just yet, so I haven't jumped on anything like Twitter just yet.)

Besides, whether Twitter is stupid or not, the more popular something is, it's worth while to take certain advantages out of it.

**giggles** The video was great though. My nieces are growing into those types of people, that have to express the stupid stuff and lose braincells in the meantime (Though, I may have been similar as a teenager if this stuff was in full swing as it seems to be now. Hell, I didn't even own a computer until my freshman year of high school. XD)

And no matter how intelligent something starts, it will eventually be stupefied by the masses. I'm surprised LinkedIn hasn't fully headed that way, but it's getting there. Letting people start groups for anything, having people that have over 10000 connections because they're networking whores...

Anyway, even if Twitter was started with the fullest intentions to be something legitimate (and it is for a lot of people) the masses have dumbed it way down just like MySpace, Facebook and anything else that is eventually unleashed on the mass population that is planet Earth. And if you introduce it to the mass stupidity that is the United States (we are, don't fight it), then something will be totally stupified to the point of "I'm going to poo." "I'm pooping." "It's coming out."

You can't blame the service (except for MySpace...allowing people to experience horrible web design on a daily basis and willingly is just evil) for the outcome of what the masses create. We can only blame the fact that intelligent people have to dumb down their work to cater to the mass of idiots.

And that is what truly gets me pissed the fuck off. We are not a great country, we just house the majority of the stupid. And stupid people always think they're great.

Reminds me of a quote I heard several years ago that stuck with me all this time: "A fool says he knows everything. A wise man says he knows nothing."
