Bran and I were standing on the observation deck near the top of L.A.'s city hall when we found out. He was taking pictures with his phone when he got a notification from Becky about it. I was shocked and then just stared out at Grand Park with the Hollywood sign in the distance.
I'll be honest. My first comments were, "WHAT?! Well, someone just missed out on a lot of points." I'm taking part in a tongue-in-cheek betting pool on a message board where at the beginning of the year we all come up with a list of 10 celebrities we think might die over the course of the year. We don't wish death on anyone and there's no real prize at the end. I'm currently in the lead because I had Casey Kasem, Shirley Temple and Eli Wallach on my list. Anyway, it's just been a matter of remembering more and more things that he was in and going, "Holy crap, Peter Pan is dead." Then I remembered all those death euphemisms he was reading off to the terminal patient in "Patch Adams" and felt a little more comforted: And after that I went, "Holy hell, that's right, Philip Seymour Hoffman was in that TOO!" It's been a process. I admit, Robin Williams was one of my absolute favorite actors when I was young. He always seemed to pick these roles that made you laugh and cry and I really admired him. As I got older, he sort of got forced to the back of my mind as I saw him less and less in the media, taking on projects I was less interested in. I'll probably end up marathoning my copies of "World According to Garp," "Dead Poets Society," "Hook," and "What Dreams May Come." Lots of death there. I can't bring myself to watch "Patch Adams" these days, and Casey (gah...) never returned my copy of "Good Will Hunting." I also miss watching "Awakenings" and when Christina and I tried to watch "Popeye" we kept joking about how much blow everyone was on when they made it. What's the last thing with which you've fallen in love? |

Dancing baby Groot. He's just SO CUTE!!
But yeah, when Guardians of the Galaxy was announced I was kinda "Meh" about it, since I hadn't read the comics and I didn't really know how well it would do in a movie format given what I did know. Then I saw the trailers, and I was intrigued. Now I've seen the movie twice and I want to go pick up the comics. And Groot is just amazing. I love the others, especially Rocket, but the whole druid thing that Groot has going on is just so... awesome. What is your opinion on cyber schools? |

I vastly prefer actually being in a classroom. I've taken online courses (most recently was the zombie class UCI was doing), and it just doesn't feel right. I need a flesh and blood person, with whom I can relate and connect to teach me in their own words, answering my questions, and so on.
I suppose they work for autodidacts, who actually use the Web to acquire knowledge on their own, but online schooling is not for me. Unless "cyber schools" means something else and I've totally missed the mark... Thoughts on the mass increase in vaping/e-cigs? |

Cyberschools are basically all online schools for (mostly) secondary schools. Live too far from the local school, or does the local one just really (and I mean really) suck? Cyberschool! I kinda have the same issue of preferring a brick and mortar classroom, but I see the merits.
Vaping and e-cigs are expensive, and still nicotine, but overall they are way less harmful than the stuff they are replacing so I am okay with them. The people that use them just need to get over the fact that they still can't use them wherever they damn well please (like airplanes). Also, they don't bother me like cigarettes do, which is a major plus. What is your favorite game to play with a standard deck of cards? |

I think the last time I even played with a standard deck in the last few years, more than just shuffling it by myself, was whenever I've had to play King's Cup with university friends at parties. I'm not really a fan of that game and it requires a big group of drunks to be fun.
The last time I even had fun playing with standard cards was back in high school, playing Bullshit. So... I guess that's the answer? I used to play War, Gin, and Go Fish with my parents and grandmother all the time as a kid, but it's not exactly something we've played in recent memory. What's your favorite kind of tea? |

I've been drinking a lot of green tea lately, but I'm really digging the mango black tea I started picking up from Trader Joe's last month. Just got a box of chai and that goes great with vanilla creamer -- like Christmas in a cup. Looking forward to trying Tim Tam slams with it.
My favorite from TJ's thus far has been this one holiday blend they had last winter: Madagascar vanilla and cinnamon. It had a lemur on it. I've been very sparing with it since they discontinued it after Christmas. I'm really hoping they bring it back, but then they still have yet to bring back their Mexican hot chocolate cookies, their three cheese cannelloni (how I TRULY miss those), Red Dragon cheese, or their instant mashed potato cups. At least peppermint Jojos come around every Christmas. As for outside of Trader Joe's, I really love this one place we get high tea's English spiced pudding. Tasty. What's the last thing you had delivered to your house? |

Is there good green tea out there without caffeine?
Hmm, last thing I got delivered was an Ikea desk and drawers. But I ordered the wrong size and it's been a royal pain in the ass reaching them again. I got through once and they gave me a case number, but it's been days since I've been able to get to anyone since then. Do you have any Ikea stuff? Hope it's worth it. I just wanted to free up space in my room from this monstrous desk I currently have. |

I know decaffeinated green tea exists (they have it at Trader Joe's), I just don't know where else you can get it or if it's any good. People seem to love Honest Tea. Not sure if they have decaf green tea.
I have a few IKEA things. Brandon's desk came from there for one (the only piece of furniture of his that we've still got from when he lived with his mom), and the wall-mounted racks I have my DVDs on. I tend to avoid anything big from there since I prefer old, unique fixtures with character. I usually just use IKEA things when it's something basic (surge protectors, light bulbs, etc). Used to really love IKEA when I was a kid, but now I'm not really into the pressed wood laminate look. Look out the nearest window to you. What are five things that you see? 1. Big Wheel on neighbors porch.
2. AC units 3. Those same neighbor windows that are always closed or covered with curtains. Scary? 4. Boring grey sky like always this summer. 5. The apartment grill. How often do you vacuum? |

On a scale of 1-to-10, I vacuum 0-to-never. I vacuum maybe once every other year when I clean my room for whatever reason (usually that someone's staying in my room or something).
When was the last time you went swimming? |

I vacuum once a week, especially since I moved and my allergist recommended it. I sleep a lot better the following few days!
lol Damn... it's been years I guess? Even though there's a pool right outside in our complex. Haha. Do you like the diving boards? Any special story behind your first jump off the high dive? |

It's been quite a long time since the last time I used a diving board, and I really don't have any stories. I was a kid in summer day camp and seemed like all the other kids were climbing up and jumping off. I never dove right. Usually just jumped, arms and legs spread, flopping backwards into the pool. I liked the feeling of falling.
Have any good stories about randomly talking to strangers? |

I have a creepy store about talking to a stranger. I was one of several women at my work that had an encounter with this pervert asking us all about nair and wanting to see our armpits or legs. My one friend was nicer than most and he ended up groping her... also got his name and number and reported it to the police.
On a general, day to day basis, though, I have lots of interesting conversations with people since I work retail. The best one I had was where I found out the guy I was talking to, as well as one of my photo department regulars, were California transplants just like me (Lynwood and San Diego, respectively). Made for a lovely day. ... For the record, I thought most green tea was either lowcaf or decaf? Though normally when I want decaf tea I go with berry flavors or chamomile (sleepytime tea!). Most times, I stick with the loose leaf Earl Grey though, since caffeine has replaced my blood. What is the weirdest burrito you've ever made? |

When was the last time you camped out to buy a product and how much days did you stayed in the same camping site? |

Dang... I want to say it was probably back when the Wii released at Best Buy. We only stayed out for half the day or something, so a handful of hours. But I do remember it was strikingly cold, so that made it tough heh.
Worth it? Not sure... lol. |

Originally posted by Xeoman Is that your question, Xeo? No, I don't know if the Wii was worth it, never having owned one. I've never really camped out to buy anything, but I've shown up and waited all day for events. Happens when you go to Comic-Con, or live in a town where there's constantly some big, free thing to see that you want to try to beat the crowd for. What's something you were REALLY, REALLY into, but are not any more, and that you may almost feel ashamed about now? |

I guess I'll be cliche' and say Euro/power metal. I'm still into metal, though don't listen to it as actively as I used to. But specifically that genre... Hammerfall, Rhapsoday, some of Edguy, etc, all that sing-alongy stuff really started to lose substance to me and reminded me of church or something haha. About the only two bands of that era for me that I can go back to are Running Wild and Gamma Ray. Everything else and I get pretty bored quickly.
If you could only have one video game system what would it be and why? |

Other than PC? Because if that counts as a game system, then that. BUT if I'm allowed one of the big three (Nintendo, Xbox, and Playstation), I'll get whatever Sony's putting out... so a PS4.
I've for some reason become brand loyal to them, and they have exclusive games I like playing (God of War, etc). I also prefer their controller. Eh, I'm not that up on console gaming. Has a book, movie, game, etc ever "changed your life"? |

I guess you can argue that D&D shaped my life, since it is such a big hobby of mine. Plus it counts as both book and game.
And I still like Euro/Power Metal, so Have you ever gotten sick from cleaning? |

YES. Any time, when I was young to even these days. Whenever I'd clean my room I'd end up with a bad cold for the next week. Not sure if that's a dust allergy or what.
Have you ever had something you recommended to someone end up blowing up in your face? |
