So this was the first year that I've watched the Oscars (I only caught the last half because there was nothing else on) without having seen ANY of the movies nominated.

I didn't bother with hype last year and just went to see movies that I knew I'd like or find enjoyable rather than movies that I figured might get nominated.

Not to say that Academy Award-nominated films aren't entertaining, it's just the ones that win (at least the last few that I've seen) I find either horribly boring, revoltingly over-dramatic (as satirized in the James Bond-parody episode of American Dad where TearJerker produces a fictitious movie called "Oscar Gold"), or they just won out of sheer popularity rather than merit.

I can't really say much for this year's line-up, especially since I didn't see any of them, but from what I hear No Country for Old Men was pretty good.

I'm surprised to see that "300" wasn't the winner of cinematography. I've seen "There Will Be Blood" and it didn't look like there was anything special to me as far as visuals in that movie. I guess I'm confused as to what people look for in that category. "300" was nothing but visuals. But your right, I don't think many people have seen a few of the movies listed. I haven't even heard of some of them.

Ha, 300 was nominated? Then I guess I did see something that was nominated.

This is too funny. Someone was doing a live interview with Jon Stewart afterwards and this happened:

How awkward.

Oh, don't know if it was nominated. I'm sure it was, for something. But I'm saying that there so many other movies to pick from that DIDN'T take place in a big open field out in the middle of nowhere with nothing to see.
