Edit- Now I know why they arrested him.
But honestly, this shit to me isnt funny. Alot of students are outraged by this and the guy, as rude as he was, was just asking a really important question. As soon as the student mentioned a secret society, his mic was cut off and he was arrested. Not to mention it took 5 people to restrain him and Taser him. To me thats bullshit, if it takes 5 people to take down an unarmed college student, I can only image how those fucks would react to a real dangerous situation. Upon seeing that and not knowing anything about it prior to watching it (other than that my LiveJournal friends page has been spammed with "Don't Taze Me, Bro" products for the past couple days), I felt a bit livid that someone was expressing an opinion and asking a question and for it was arrested and mistreated.
Then I saw the video that captures 5 minutes before that vid: Do I still feel like it warranted an arrest and tazing? No. Yes, he was causing a scene and being somewhat over-dramatic, but it was a public forum and he was asking some serious questions which he should have been allowed to hear the answers to without being treated as such. Insulting or not, is this a sign of the times? Speak out and be stifled? Perhaps I'm missing something? EDIT: Found another video which captures more of it: I'm somewhat appalled that no one stood up for his right to speak. Even Kerry. He allowed it to happen. This was the man who could have been president. Nothing. To quote blogger Brad Friedman, "The First Amendment doesn't include a Politeness Clause as far as I'm aware." The lack of outrage reminds me (and many others, I'm sure) of the poem First They Came.... (Last edited by Rogue on 09-20-07 10:26 PM) |

They really had no reason to taser him, because he was restrained. | |||

I agree with Rogue.
Did free speech just go out the window? I'm also mad that no one stood up for him. |
