Try turning up the volume, or plugging in your speakers (I swear this was a problem I had to fix for someone once).

Oh, and don't forget the popup messages whenever you go anywhere.

The scheme is quite evil, but you can stop the color flashing by pressing Esc when the page is fully loaded. You can kill the sound in Firefox with adblock. The only annoying thing is the popups and the missing New Thread/New Reply buttons (they are there, but are labeled differently)
