Bitmap: Yeah, unfortunately I dont think Sony will update PSP games. Ah well, just something we all have to live with I guess.
Astrophel: From what I've heard, it's an issue with the coding. Try summons, they don't have slowdown, even though they by all logic should have more slowdown than most other skills.
Bitmap: Friend got FFT For the PSP. I have to admit, it seems alot slower than the one on the PS1 version. Meh, im pretty sure a firmware update or somerhing can fix it...who knows.
