I think it's all about people's intentions. **shrugs**

Like, in a way, I guess I'm an example of those "synthetic" girls lately. Well...I haven't gone out like that, but I put on make-up because I have fun doing it. It's kinda like art and pretty fun. Other than that, I'm actually at a point in my life where I don't feel the need to wear it. If I don't have time, I don't fuss over it. If there's nothing to do and I have a while before I have to be somewhere, then I put on make-up. And it also depends on where I'm going. If I'm going off to hang out with friends, I'll prolly wear my make-up all weird and stuff (haven't gone outside like that yet though) but just because I think it's fun, not because I think I have to be that way to be considered acceptable in society. Hell, I don't worry about people not being attracted to me. The kind of people that I happen to be attracted to are the people who think it's kickass that a girl can do something like fart and then say no one can rip a better one than her (which is how I am...XD)

I do agree with you guys and see what you all mean. It's people like that that make people like me look like we're like them. XD If THAT doesn't confuse everyone...Haha. Cuz I mean, I dunno...lately I've been changing. I've decided to dye my hair differently than I ever have, I like clothes that I never thought I would in a bajillion years...but I'm doing it all for me. I'm having fun. But to someone on the outside, who doesn't know someone like me, they'll see them dressing and acting something similar to those other girls and bunch us all in there. I fight with my sister all the time. She thinks I'm like that and gets on my case about it.

Not tring to justify anything on my end, but no one can speak for ANYTHING 100% except themselves, so I just wanted to give a sincere example.

It's retarded how people feel that they need to look a certain way to be accepted. It's not just girls either and it happens to people of all ages, not just teenagers. I used to feel that way. Uber insecure and worried about what other people thought. And it sucked. I'm having so much fun with life right now, now that I dun give a shit. XD And other people who feel like I do have said the same thing.

I realize. I only quoted you because what you said only strengthened what I said and I agreed with you, not because I thought you were referring to me as one of those who didn't get it.

Not talking about you, buddy. Referring to the two who followed you.

It's things like Myspace, where you go through, "Oh she looks like that and has 5000 friends, oh shes got no makeup on she only has 100". It's the phenomenon where people mimic others and deny themselves their own individual appearance because of the societal norm.

...yeah that's pretty much what i was saying with the music videos and such.

Here, if you read this: "Whether it's scene girls with their dye/spray/gel/bleach hair and insanely caked on makeup or bleach blondes with fake tans, incredibly smokey eyes, and layers of foundation, it's all so FAKE. I want to see a girl with a minimal amount of makeup, plain hair. This ISN'T about how someone dresses, but honestly, girls these days are turning themselves into dolls. Even if they aren't plastic or haven't had a nose job, just seriously look at some of the stuff we consider beautiful. "

What she's trying to express is that a lot of people change the way they look with makeup and stuff because its what people they know consider beautiful.

Saijin, I honestly think music has little or nothing to do with it. I occasionally listen to punk and emo, and I look absolutely nothing like these people. Actually, I know a few "scene" people that listen to metal.

And Xeo, trust me, there are SHITLOADS of people like this. You just haven't seen them.

Yeah. For me, I usually wear either Vans or Nike shoes, maybe some Nike hoodies, and then the next day you might see me walking in somewhere with a TMNT shirt, or a Nintendo shirt. Back in Junior High I just wore a bunch of dragon shirts. I just don't care, never have and never will, and I've never really been able to understand what it is that drives people to look so much like others. Is it really them trying to be themselves?

Though, Nagis has a good point with the music ideal. Every single girl that was posted above looks like a generic girl you'd find on myspace and chances are probably that they listen to punk/emo music, because, well they just all do.

Like Sparda, in my personal and humble opinion all of those girls don't look very attractive to me either, at all. Though honestly I think a few of them have potential, but not in a state like that. Lose the colored hair, the overdose of eyeshaddow, etc ... also, just to get it out the hair colors and whatnot the 2nd and 3rd girls have, I fiind to be extremely ugly. I honestly can't help but think of a skunk when I see stuff like that, seirously.

Though, cawn maybe you're looking at this too seriously or something. Sure I could instantly label those girls as everyday myspace girls, but at the same time I can't say I've seen a lot of girls like that to that extreme in person. There's a few, every once and awhile at school, but not really a lot like that at all. Then again my High School wasn't too big (maybe about 1,000-1,200 people), and now in College I think most people are mature enough to just simply be relaxed with themselves, but that's me.

Kids these days, with their hip-hop! Ahahahahaha.

But seriously, I think it's important to separate the person as a social animal and the person as an individual. Herd mentality gives kids to desire to blend in.

I think its because of the music they are drawn too.

All the damn time around here you look around and see clicks and groups...and its all because of the music they are drawn to.

But there are some people who are different. Take me for example, I love metal, but you dont see me wearing Black shirts with my favorite metal band on the front, black pants with chains, and make-up. I just wear Anime shirts, blue jeans, and Brown work boots all the time.

Sure I used to wear that crap, but it was just a phase I grew out of in 2 years.

So I think its because of the music. You get Emo music, Gothic people, punk, Country, and whatever else you can imagine.

But 5% of the time, you get a person who cares about how he dresses and actually makes himself look straightforward and professional.

So imo, Its the fucking music nowadays. No offence to people who like Lynkin Park (However you spell it ), but Cmon...All of my friends who listen to him sound so fucking pathetic its not even funny.

And a little penny for my thoughts, those girls can die in a fire.

imo, the picture of those girls you posted look pretty disgusting to me.

and to answer your question.

it's simply because society is very picky. Many people are afraid to be themselves because they fear what the rest of the world may think about them. Therefore, they feel the need to look the way society dictates so that they are 'safe' from insults. They try to gain a good self-image so that the world can accept them, though ironically, the only reason they do this is because of their already poor self-image. Really, it's all about 'society'. But then again, society is a very vague term to use and it'd be unfair to simply throw that term around without understanding what kind of society.

Advertisements. Commercials. Reality Shows. Movies. Toys. Video Games. Music Videos. These things affect people which in turn leads to pressure. This pressure leads people to believe that they have act or look a certain way in order to be accepted...and it's not hard to understand why. When a girl sees that every single woman in music videos nowadays dresses like a slut, she may end up thinking that that's the only way to go. Everytime one of the societal factors that i mentioned before shows perfection, some will believe that it is necessary to achieve this 'perfection', if that's what you can really call it.

This is a topic I've been thinking about a lot lately. Look at everyone around you that you consider beautiful. So many people, especially girls these days, look SO fake, and I'm like just starting to notice it. Whether it's scene girls with their dye/spray/gel/bleach hair and insanely caked on makeup or bleach blondes with fake tans, incredibly smokey eyes, and layers of foundation, it's all so FAKE. I want to see a girl with a minimal amount of makeup, plain hair. This ISN'T about how someone dresses, but honestly, girls these days are turning themselves into dolls. Even if they aren't plastic or haven't had a nose job, just seriously look at some of the stuff we consider beautiful.

Just look at these people, and try to notice the fakeness.

Why do we consider these people incredibly beautiful? What makes us desire to be so flawless, but fake? Wouldn't they be perfectly fine without spending so much time and money on making themselves synthetic?

Maybe it's because humans are obsessed with being something we're not. Companies know this, and that's how they get us to buy stuff. It's everywhere. It makes us feel terrible that we can't be certain things. It happens with religion, business, schooling, social status, etc. We are always obsessed with being something we either cannot or is extremely difficult to be. We set standards for ourselves that HURT us, damage us, tear us apart emotionally (and sometimes physically--think eating disorders and other types of obsession). We've always been so masochistic, but what for?

Why is it so difficult for humans to accept what we are? Why are we always trying to change ourselves?

Why do we so badly want to be synthetic humans?

To clarify, I'm not saying that the trend of being "scene" sucks and that we should stray away from it. I'm pointing out that people are changing themselves to appear more beautiful to others, and they wear and like certain things simply because they are part of a popular trend. This idea can basically be applied to anything, because the rest of society and cooperations is basically controlling everything about any easily manipulated human' life (especially teens, and let's face it, they're basically all young minds available for molding).

iono i posted this somewhere else and john told me to post it here.
