What was I meant was being able to link to exactly which announcement you wanted, like how we can link to posts. There've been times when I'll refer to an announcement and since they aren't individually-linked, I've had to tell people scroll down a few announcements to get to the one of which I'm speaking.
Yeah, I don't code pages, so it's beyond me as well. |

Originally posted by Rogue You mean click the link, and it automatically scrolls down to the announcement that you want to show people? That would be swell. I dont have a problem LINKING announcements (Tested it on AIM, and other boards) and it worked out fine. But automatically scrolling down to the announcement of your choice is beyond me. |

I'd do it right now seriously.
But I'm sick. (not kidding) |

If you're a new member, you'd still be getting the PMs for announcements (or from Announcements, if you should choose to get another account to send them out and call it just that ).
That does remind me. Has anything happened with the being able to link to announcements? I've been having that problem. When I want to show people cerain announcements, you have to send them the link to where they all are and tell them to scroll down a few. |

Or make an "announcement" account that can do it. So people know it's an announcement and not something like, "oops, you're banned. sorry "

This doesn't seem like it'd be that hard of a thing to do. Is it? If not, it sounds like a really good idea. |

But at the same time, they wouldn't be available to new members.
You'd have to be pre-registered to be aware of something that could affect you, though it may affect new members. |

Maybe make the announcements PMs to all the members?
The idea comes from another board I frequent. Since they have several levels of membership, the PMs go only to certain individuals. This would also include an idea I posted a long time ago about being able to put multiple names in the box where you put the user's name to which you're sending the PM. |

It should disappear ... after awhile. |

I can see how it would be somewhat difficult to code that in, but then we have the same thing with new posts. If I click to mark all as old on this computer, all will be old on my other computer too. |

I agree with the idea for the announcements to be member based.
Is that possible, or is it too difficult? |

I think the per user thing would be a good idea. Guests shouldn't be interested in the announcements anyway. If they are, they can join us.
Other than that, I don't know what to say. Maybe if you could make the table for the announcement disappear if someone has read it. |

It's based on cookies.
So it's normal if it's different on other computers. But I could do both, so guest also aren't plagued with it. |

I've taken to ignoring that there are announcements on this board. Why? Why because even if I've already read an announcement, multiple times even, when I log on using a different computer, it shows the old one again as new. It even shows up on my computer all the time since I recently stopped having a static IP.
Is there a way to, like PMs, stop having the announcement show up per account rather than IP? It's just when there is a new announcement, I don't see it for a time because I'm used to there being a "new" one there. Just wondering if this is possible. Having a new one all the time clutters the appearence of the masthead. |
