Poetry month? :p Back in gradeschool, we made a big deal about it...used to have all sorts of contests and such...then...you'd think we'd do something about it in high school...but nah...lol. In fact, I had forgotten all about it until I saw this thread. |

There was a poetry/ Story contest in my high school 3 years ago, I won first place in the 9th grade level...
Wrote it under complete misery And seen how this is poetry month, I better get busy with some more creatitivy...My counselor mentioned something about this and learned that I won that contest 3 years ago...I declined because 90% of my poetry is kinda personal...but im thinking about entering once again... I had a story that I was writing about the Sands of Haiti, with Princesses, palidan knights, blah blah blah...All that romance Jazz.... I also remember being published in the Atlanta Journal this one time because they were issuing out a prize of 500$ to whom had the most creative, of course I diddnt win, but I was in the top 100....and thus was published...Out of 780+ that sent theirs in... |

Thats right, we are waist deep in April, and its yet to be mentioned on this board that April is National Poetry Month.
And oh how my school is having one amazing orgasm of creativity. No sarcasm here. This month, so far, has been the coolest month evaaaar. So many things have happened. - The Poetry Out Loud competition, a national poetry recitation contest. Our school took part in it and the girl from our school won the statewide competition. She's incredible at reciting obviously, and now she has a chance to compete against 49 other poets from the rest of the United States in Washington D.C. later this month. The prize for winning? $50,000. Thats right. Fifty. Thousand. Dollars. For memorizing! But I'm sure they're all as talented as her - it'll be a hard competition, but hopefully she wins. - Our school Poetry Reading was last night. An example of the cover art for the pamphlet I made can be found in the Webcomics thread (too lazy to get a link...). It went fanfuckingtastic. I had the enormous balls to read my poems in a pink raincoat and polka dot scarf. In front of a lot of my teacher, all the obnoxious kids who came just for extra credit. One of the poets totally owned the people in the crowd who were making assenine comments. Augh... it was great. Did I mention... I got to go into THE GIRLS BATHROOM!? Yeah, then some old lady came in and I had to hide in the stalls... it was like Metal Gear Solid. A pink raincoat gives you like... negative camo though. - Poetry Magazine is coming out. Thats all there is about that though. - I've been awarded the honor of going to a writers workshop in... some town in the west of my state... with a whole bunch of other student writers from throughout the state. Pretty much this means I'm on par, writing wise, as college students and possibly beyond. Why is this such an honor though? Ever see the movie or read the book Angela's Ashes? It won a Pulitzer prize in 1997 I think. Yeah. The guy who wrote it, Frank McCourt... he's totally gonna be there lecturing and talking to us. Freaking sweet. Ah yes... its making me so happy. Happy, happy boy. |
