You should try talking to them about comission and such, they wont even speak of it, I sent an e-mail to one of the higher up's asking for some advice on getting some experience in networks, cause we dont learn jack shit at work, I also told him that Marilee(boss) told me my termination date and that I wanted start searching now for a job.

everyone toulk it like I was quitting or something

I get paid hourly but the bad thing about that is that I only get about 10-15 hours a week, and I get paid at the end of every month, It sucks because they close up shop at 4:30 everyday and I get out of school at 2:05 and start work at about 2:30, Plus we dont get benifits and we get blamed for random shit, which is really annoying...>.<

Yeah, well I can say it just really depends on the manager you have. They can really effect your work.

The manager I have now is the guy who's given me the two raises, and has put the benefits in affect. Before that, we had another manager who never gave Courtesy Tech's benefits, and hardly ever handed out raises (he gave out one to one guy for the few months I worked with him).

Then again, tons of people have told me that our current manager (who's a great guy, and has been with the business for 18 years ... yeah), gets a little raise-happy. This guy's given about every employee raises since he started working with us.

So do you get paid my comission, or by the hour? Because if you get paid by the hour...to me that wouldent be unfair unless it was comission....that way you get paid depending on how many 'orders' you completed...

Edit: oh, the following paragraph above was replying to what Drizzit posted after my previous one....

And Xeo: Thats good that you get htose types of benefits...I diddnt get any when I was working at waffle house....If they werent taking money from my paycheck for taxes, I would have been payed 7.00 an hour

I do get benefits. We sometimes have competitions with other Jiffy Lube's in the region, and if we win, I sometimes get $20-$25 gas cards (Quick Trip).

Of course I usually only win if I do good selling "Specialty Oils" (synthetic), which I haven't done very well for the past two months.

But do I really care? Nah. My interest in the business has died away. I'm just there to do my job, not make Jiffy Lube successful. Knowing how much the company makes, and how much the higher up's expect out of their employee's is ridiculous.

It's not that bad compared to mine, We had 3 employees and now we have 2 because Joel quit(bastard). So im afraid to call in sick or miss a day, because if I do then work falls behind. I only make 7.50 and that's low compared to other school IT departments around the country, it's the lowest I think.

I think I have about 70 to 80 workorders in my box right now that I have to get to, and my co-worker Steve has even more than that.

The job get's a little old at times. The thing about Jiffy Lube, is that there's maybe a super maximum of 12-15 employee's, so it's very hard to get a day off, or even call in sick (there's been times where I've had to work while I was sick) because there just isn't very many other employee's.

I wouldent work there unless they had some bitchin' benefits. A company cant just say "You cant call in sick" because they dont have enough employees...thats not fair to you or to other employees...

At first when I worked at the waffle house, I wasnt getting paid minimum wage due to the fact I "Looked" 15...then I complained about it and found out they couldent afford me...THEN they offered me a job as Assistant Manager...Tried that out, got paid pretty good, but I had to quit school in order to do that, so I tried working back at the previous position I had....They had me working one day a week, couldent call in sick, and had me working for 4.00 an hour...So I quit...

But hey, you only have a high school diploma, so I dont doubt you probially cant get a higher pay than that...

By the end of the day I sometimes just want to take a folder and smack a guy in the face with it.

I know how it feels and I agree 10 fold with you there, Instead of the folder's I get to fill out work orders for the problems with PC's, Then when we fix the problem we have to explain in detail what we did. Then you have the media specialists at each school who dont leave you alone, you try to do something and there over your shoulder the whole time >.<

but yea, I agree

I'd like to believe that I have the hardest part of the job. It's not washing the windows, checking tire pressures, and vaccuuming the insides of cars, it's greeting people and ringing them out.

And when I work at one of the most busiest Jiffy Lube's in the nation, we'll hit about 50-80 cars on the weekends, that's 50-80 people I have to talk to.

Recently though I've been working a bit in lower bay. This includes simply draining the oil, and changing the oil filter out. Maybe the easiest thing to do at our work, but sometimes painfully. Right now my entire left hand has about *counts* 6 burn marks that have been on there for a good couple of weeks (scabbing, etc). But it's sometimes fun to work down there, because you're alone, and don't have to deal with customers.

Seriously, customers are my least favorite thing at work. I can deal with them, but on days like Saturday where I work open to close, 7 AM to 6 PM, it gets very old, quickly.

I am currently an Attendant at the Queen Mary in Long Beach. It's a ocean liner tourned tourist attraction/hotel. I'm working in the Titanic Artifact Exhibition, and while the information is facinating it is all very sad... and thanks to my supervisor it is also getting very boring. He wants us to be zombies I tell you! "Don't entertain the guest at all, don't tell them extra information about the Titanic passenger on the Boarding Pass that they were given"(even though the guests love it because it adds so much more to the experience and makes it easier to part with that $17 to get in) "... just tell them the rules, give them the boarding pass, and/or thank them for coming. Don't talk to each other, don't take 3 steps from your spot even though no one has come in for the past hour and a half and it's five minutes til closing... etc"

The job pays $7.68/hour, nearly a dollar over the minimum wage... but there is NO fun in the job anymore and I've barely been there a month! Venomouslobster is working there too, we got hired together... so it's some small solace. Hopefully we will work our way up to Tour Guides so we won't have to deal with Bill (the cranky supervisor) anymore. Oh yeah, and for the most part our immediate coworkers are the most annoying in the world... ditzy, lazy, or complaining about EVERYTHING. Oh, and we have to wear navy blue polyester uniforms.

I've also worked as a monster at Shipwreck at the Queen Mary (the best job ever... no Bill!), and the Long Beach City College Bookstore as a rush season cashier (first two weeks of school when the slackers realize they need textbooks). Before getting this attendant job I thought the bookstore was the most boring/annoying job ever, but now I would kill for something like that again.

I work at a Mailboxes Etc store. It isn't bad at all, I get $9/hour to start along with health insurance and stuff. ^-^ My second job (the one that isn't 40 hours a week) is simply that I'm a photographer at two different race tracks... I take different pictures of race cars while they are on the track and sell 8x10 prints for $5-6. sooo... meh *shrugs* I'm doing pretty well for an 18 year old.

I quit my job working at the Waffle house as Cook and assistant manager, reason being was because they had me working one day a week for less than 12.00 an hour for a period of 6 hours a day...In other words, I was over qualified for the job and couldent afford me to keep the job, so I quit...

Dunno if the comment below this counts as a job....

Currently right now im taking care of my grandmother, shes gotten at that point of age where she can no longer be at the house by herself...Sure I dont get paid by doing that, but somebody has to do it...

The short answer would be Long Beach City College.

I work in my newspaper office, doing basic clerical and sometimes putting together pieces of the newspaper when the editors have nervous break-downs.

Otherwise, my occacionally paying job is freelance writing and public relations rep for people who need it done.

For the non-paying side, my latest stint has been a techie for the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Helped put together the 30th anniversary convention for the movie and cult following, in Vegas, last summer. Interviewed a few of the special guests who were a part of the making of the movie and published articles about them for the program.

Also I go to cons and write about 'em.

I currently work at a bookstore called Cultura Latina Bookstore, which is located in Long Beach. I've been working for a few years there now. It's a small buisness and we specialized in children's books and adult fiction by latino authors and/or about latino topics.

I really enjoy working there because as small as the store is, it has picked up quite a bit of fame over the ten years that it has been open for buisness. One of our publisher reps even told us our name was actually spoekn about at some high class party in New York City (as far as I know, none of the employees ahve ever gone to New York).

We even get people who, when they come from out of state, they will not leave without visiting out store first. It's kinda cool. I'll complain about things at times, but overall I'm happy with the job.

I'm a QA Technician--the fancy, industry terminology for Game Tester for JAMDAT Mobile (soon to be EA Mobile in February). I test games like the DOOM RPG on the expensive LG VX 8100 cell phone, and some other games that aren't out yet.

I have worked for JAKKS Pacific, Inc., Activision Publishing, Disneyland Resort, the Transportation Security Administration, and Tower Records. Not in that order.

Oh, well, back to work.

I dont know if there was ever a thread about this or not, but after my Job Listing's thread I thought it would be cool to find out where everyone around here works

Right now im working for the Medford School District 549C. In the Network Telecommunications Services or better known as NTS. Ive been working there since august of last year. I am the Help Desk Assistant / Computer Technician. So that means I answer phones and fix computers all day. It's sorta fun, my boss Marilee (The lady at the help desk) has been a real bitch lately and even told me my termination date already, o.O Which really pissed me off.
