I've restarted my previous training with my virtual personal trainer, Maya from Yourself! Fitness, and have set concentration on both cardio and upper body strength. My current abilities are about below average, but I'm improving. In addition, I plan to start jogging soon, preferably early in the morning before I go to work (3 to 4AM).

Also, I've started reviewing a little bit of the random martial arts I learned from various sources over the years. I quote from the Border Patrol manual on a few of the objectives required of recruits at mid-term exams:

"From a lying position, repeatedly get to an upright poisition quickly and deliver a variety of defensive kicks to a padded bag.

Remain on the surface of water for 20 minutes without the use of a personal flotation device.

Be able to withstand being sprayed with Oleoresin Capsicum (Pepper Spray) in the face from six (6) feet.

Climb a 20-foot vertical ladder.

Run or jog quickly for a distance of 20 yards at intervals. Must be able to conceal ... body behind various items of cover.

Have the manipulative dexterity to properly utilize a collapsible baton."

And, that's just the very tippy-top of the iceberg. This is during Academy training. From what I'm reading thus far, I'm thinking this is even more intense training than the US military.

So, I'm both apprehensive and very excited. Off to run...

Running - wear weights and try to run on grass or dirt as much as possible, it supposedly helps you get in shape quicker than running on cement.

Lung Capacity - bicycle

Overall Strength and Stamina - If you don't mind spending some money; Chuck Norris' Total Gym Elite is awesome. Even for experience weight lifters who can bench press some insane number it still gives them a very good workout. My parents bought one and it really does work, and who can't trust a Chuck Norris product

Mmm, fun. Yeah, I don't exercise (aside from playing DDR, lol) so I don't know. I guess the best way would be the way you're going. Work on what you need to.

Truth/Serum might be able to help you out if he ever sees this. He started getting in shape for hte Navy while he was still in DEP. He might have soem tips.

Can't swim.

Not going to LBCC, but I did walk up and down the flights of stairs at work today because I forgot my money twice during lunch. Walked half a mile just because too.

Gonna start running again. And, need to increase my ability to do just 5 pushups to about 10 to 15 in 60 seconds. The test requires 20 in 60 seconds at correct form.

I have about three months to "get in shape". Ugh.

Hmm... yeah... some people jog carrying weights. Swimming might help some too. Try to stay underwater a little longer, maybe get your lungs used to some strain while working out your arm and leg muscles?

Oh, Congrats?

Well, I'd say that if you still go to a gym that tredmills, stair machines, and the bicycle ones would help you out best. If not, then go with the real thing. Jog around your neighborhood, increasing the length each time you get comfy, or start carrying weights. Ride a bike on the bike path in the river bed (length of the trail is good for endurance), and climb up and down a lot of stairs (for example, first floor of D building to 3rd floor, walk to stairs at opposite end of building and walk down. Progress to a jog after you can walk it with no problem.

Congrats on the possible new position btw!

And I quote:

"This is to notify you that you have been tentatively selected for the position of Border Patrol Agent Trainee ... with the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)."

I'm really very uplifted by this, but have come to expect that nothing much will come from it because of the TSA incident of which we shall never again discuss. I'll go through with everything, quite hopeful that I can attain the GS-5 position (starts at $34K annually), and stay in it. I have to start working out regardless of the outcome.

I heard training camp is killer, and I should start jogging/running now even before I'm accepted just in case I am. So basically, I'd like workout advice if any of you have it. I'd have to build up my stamina again, I'm fine for lifting and carrying things, and I assume I'd have to learn how to fire a firearm...again.

Yay! If only I can become a Fed again...
