I used to be in the Boy scouts. I was so close to getting Eagle. All i need was for my scout master to sign off on like 4 requirments. (like 1 for each class befor eagle, and one for eagle) But he wouldnt. I mean, he knew i had met the requerements, but he was being a prick. He pissed me off so bad, i left the boyscouts. It still pisses me off when i think about it..... |

I was a girl scout for only two years, but still...my troop worked with the boys a lot actually. EVen though they're different, I still think you get the same basic thing from both. Like you guys have said already....you learn all sorts of morals. One thing I loved about it was we weren't taught by being told what was right and wrong. We were taught by actual experiences...ones like Zero's posted in another thread about those three boys getting together all of that money.
You also learn a lot about leadership. Some people seem to think that being a leader is just being in control, but really it's not. Again, Zero has shown us a good example about being a good leader in his thread about those kids. You can usually tell when someone has gone through girl/boy scouts. Just in the way they carry themselves. They're very assertive. They know how to handle a situation, and they're usually very confident. Not Cocky and arrogant, but not a push over either. Teehee...which is why I needed to be in girl scouts longer, cuz I'm either extremely passive, or too cocky.

Yes here to scouts is good.But they get alot of crap from other kids. But i was a scout once and i didnt get to do much but sell popcorn and ride on a float in the christmas parade. But to me it would have helped me if i would have stayed in. |

I agree, scouts is definitely a good thing, it helps establish morals as well as give you helpful skills. I personally loved cub scouts but once I got to boy scouts it kinda sucked because my troop was full of ass holes. |

I used to be a scout myself actually. I think it's great. It gives kids something to do and its really fun depending on who you are. You definetly learn a lot being a scout. I still live by the motto "Be preparred.". The scouts have donated a lot to charity as well. Just the other day i saw a local troop at a carnival raising cash for the red cross. |

Ok kids and kidetts... I am writing a paper for my english class about Boy Scouts and what the impact of the program and how it has affected people in society. As a Eagle Scout (highest rank you can earn as a boy) I know the program gets alot of heat for the poor decisions others make. I want to make one thing clear, not every scout you are ever going to meet is like that in any way.
So what do you think? Feedback will help in every way, please no noob flaming. ((sorry if this isnt the right forum to put it in...wasnt sure..)) |
