Yeah, a bit early; waiting only four years...

You beat me to it Tamarin. Although I wouldn't have provided facts like that, yeah, the consoles usually go through a 5 year leap.

So yeah, I disagree and think it's the right time for the next generation systems. I can say however, it seems almost unbeleivable. But then again, that's how I always got with past systems when they first game out. Even the Saturn. (Man it's so realistic! )

Xbox 360 though? They're going for a release by the end of this year. Now that seems early. But, from reading articles and magazines I can explain what their "Plan" is.

Look at the PS2. It came out the earliest, but is it the most powerful system? Compared to the GC and Xbox, not at all. But, it is the most successful isn't it? Holding about 70% of the market, I'd say so.

So, I guess Microsoft believes, even if their system isn't the most powerful this time around, if they get their system out it'll be the "best.

Hmm? No.

Microsoft lacks one huge thing. The entire JAPANESE market. Yeah, I honestly don't think they're going to turn out like the PS2 did.

The PS3 is also using Blu-Ray discs, which sound a LOT more powerful than Xbox 360's HD DVD's. (Blu-Ray is supposed to hold like 40 GB I think, and can have things written to it, etc)

In short, I think Microsoft is making a mistake, and is going to get slapped.

three years? Dude, you have no understanding of the console market. They wait three years, then they'll get their asses kicked by Nintendo and Microsoft.

I honestly think that next fall is fine. The PS2 was released in North America (according to GameFAQs) on the 26th of October, 2000. The PlayStation was released in North America, according to the same source, on the 9th of September, 1995. Five years between them. What year is this? Oh, right. 2005. Since fall of NEXT YEAR is in 2006, that means there's even more time between the PS3 and the PS2 compared to the PS1/PS2 gap. I think six years is plenty of time, honestly.

*pulls up some Nintendo comparisons*

SNES: Sometime in 1991 (GameFAQs doesn't have SNES release dates for North America, nor does it have an exact release date for SMW)
N64: 29th of September, 1996
Gamecube: 18th of November, 2001

As you can see, it's quite normal to have 5-6 years between consoles. And, considering that with only five years between systems, Nintendo released the Gamecube without many problems, and that's with a switch in software formats. I'm sure Sony can do the same in six years.

ok, alot of pople at my school are saying that Sony should wait for their next console to be released...

I toatally agree, reason why...

People are not gonna afford it! also, Game desighners have only tapped close to 80% of the PS2's potental...they have a loong way to go!

If they release a new PS3 or something, its just gonna have bugs just like the PS2 did when it came out 3 monyhs early...thats right...the "Disc read error" bug.....

oh yeah, sony announced that the new console will be released the fall of next year, they should wait 3 more years for that crap!

anyone have reasons why they should or shouldent release the next-gneration consoles??
