Yeah, the only other band I can really say that comes close to Symphony X in "similiar style" is probably Stratovarius.
But yeah, I've heard about a total of 28 Edguy songs, Hellfire Club, and that burned CD my friend gave me with about 13-14 songs, so I've heard quite a bit. I was getting Kingdom of Madness ... I hear if you like Symphony X, you'd like Rhapsody. I haven't heard any of Rhapsody, so don't take my word for that. |

I love fast metal too, it's what I prefer, but I jsut seem to like Symphony X more. Of course, I might be persuaded to Ed if I were to hear more and more songs of them. But alas, I have only heard 4 songs, while I have listened to all of The Damnation Game.
They're style is interesting. As said before, Symphonic Progresive Metal = Pwn. |

Heh heh, I still don't see why people would complain about a 24 minute song... of course, I'm a Dream Theater fan, so I'm used to songs that long already.
But yeah, somehow I knew that Xeo would make a long post like that, lol. |

*bows to TP*
You like Edguy? You like Symphony X? You = Good tase. I wouldn't say I like Symphony X more than Edguy, but they're pretty different, and I'm just more of a fan of the "speed, double bass drums, up beat metal", but I wouldn't argue the fact that Symphony X is indeed an awesome band. I have the V album, and The Odyssey. Seriously, V is a top notch high quality album. Sounds like a heavy metal album to an RPG game or something, but a lot of the songs are taken from The Odyssey and just put into more of a symphonic mood, which isn't bad, but as I've said I'm more for the rock. But yeah TP, I HIGHLY recommend you check those albums out, and even though the song "The Odyssey" is 24 minutes of pure greatness, it's still my favorite song by them. (some people complain about the length ) And if you like these guys, I'm sure you'd probably enjoy Stratovarius ... a little faster and more upbeat than SX here, but they're basically the same style, at least from what I've heard. (by the way I'm glad you made this thread, I would have sooner or later ) PS: Did you guys ever get the newest songs of Edguy that I uploaded? If not, get! You will. |

Heh heh, I think Xeo will laugh when he sees this.
But yeah, Symphony X is indeed a kick ass band, especially when plotting evil DM things of doom... maybe it's the guitar. But yeah, sadly I do not have any of their CDs, but I have heard a small amount of their songs. |

I've heard of few of their songs that a friend gave me. I really like listening to them, especially when I'm driving or when I'm plotting evil DM things of doom for campaigns I run. |

Never heard of them. But until I get myself a faster connection, or more money,
i can't really try to find more of their music... |

My trip in Vancouver has been good music wise. I got a few CDs, a couple including The Gray Race by Bad Religion, and The Damnation Game by Symphony X.
Now, Edguy is a wicked band introduced to many of us through one particular thread. But! After listening to this CD, I hold Symphony X higher than Edguy. Symphonic Progressive Metal = The Pwn. It puts the "Awe Me" in Awesome. Well, maybe. I don't really get awed easy. But still, it's freakin' awesome. This thread was made to tell you this. So start finding some Symphony X! And also, discuss. |
