You want to try odds, I'll give you odds.

Try scoring in the top 95 percentile for a very difficult multitasking examination for a 911 emergency dispatcher position with the city of Los Angeles. Try going in for the interview two years later (yes, 2 years), only to be told that your odds of getting the job is 1/3 of the total applicants.

There are fifty spots, and 150 applicants. I'm one of those 150. I won't know anything until May, and if I'm in, class won't start until June. Then, I have to pass another examination, and go through a whole other interview process. Try that on for size.

Tough luck on that, but life is just a series of interviews...

At Tower Records, we are always taking applications, but we're not always hiring. There is a difference, that, and people before you might have taken the position before they finished interviewing. Companies should wait until they're done with all the interviews before deciding, but oftentimes they don't. Target's a bitch anyway. Work for Tower. Discounts on CDs, games, and such.

Or, do my job.

Oh no I'm so sorry to hear Xeo, grr!!! I hate it when they say you can have an interview, knowing well enough you want a job and then reject you "ON THE DAY" it's just ridiculous.

I’ve never liked places like, Target, Big W, Kmart etc. They are really lousy jobs, I mean it’s basically your responisibility to let them know you still want to work and if you don’t receive hours off them for a while, you might as well say you don’t have a job there … but I could be wrong, the system could be different there, but that’s how they treat it here. I’ve had friends who have worked for places like that

Just don't get yourself down, keep trying, eventually somewhere will be wanting someone to work for them. If you just give up straight away you might as well not have gone for the interview, you might be missing out on a good opportunity. I wish you all the best though for the other jobs.

Xeo...That bitex0rs major ass.

They shouldn't be able to do that to someone. Or maybe there was someone before you who was so spectacular that they had to hire them right aaway.

Or perhaps, that was a test question, to make sure that you were serious about the job...

See, it's shit like that that makes me want to use industrial-strength "shock therapy" on numerous people in this world.

It sucks that they did that, Xeo, but you gotta remember that Target's a pretty big chain. They're going to pull shit like that, and no one can do a damn thing about it. =/

"Ok, you can have the option to take the interview now and have the possibility of not getting hired now since we don't really need help, or we can put you on hold until we do."

"Alright, I think I'll go ahead and wait."

That was my freaking interview.

Why do people tell you "Yes, we're hiring", then you get in with an interview "Actually we don't need help now", that just pisses me off.

At least some Ice-Cream place said they'll have a guy call me tommorow ... but I'm not even going to get my hopes up a bit.

I'm tired of this.

target... i worked there a few months ago... i've had two interviews from two different targets, i guess i might be able to help.

okay, first thing, dress nicely, as with any interview. the interview really just depends on who is interviewing you. i had was interviewed by two targets as i already said, and both my interviews were polar opposites. the first one, right away when i sat down, i could feel something bad. she wasnt paying attention at all to anything i was saying, nor looked interested. in both interviews, i said the exact same thing, and they both asked the exect same questions. so it couldnt have been me, or the questions, it was the interviewer. the second target interviewer was more interested and actually loved her job. i dont recall the questions, but i think one of them is to name a time where someone asked you to do something to change yourself, and what did you do about it. i had long hair at the time, so i said how my mom kept on telling me to cut my hair, and i finally did, but it grew out again, and i pointed to my head, which my hair was really long at the time, and she laughed. so i guess you should try and say things that the interviewer could relate with or something that's interesting. when you answer questions, even thought you're nervious, just try and answer with much confidence, as if you actually want to love to work there. and if they dont ask for a drug test, then that means they dont want to hire you. they only tell you about the drug test to people they want to hire.

anyways, target... working there sucks. but it depends really on which job that you want to apply there. i suggest that you should apply to be a cashier, those people stay around longer than the floor team. i was assigned to be a floor team memeber, and all my preacessor were fired, including myself. it's such a bother to zone. it's an impossible mission and the executives don't even tell you where your area. they'll tell you where you have jurisdiction, but they wont tell you everything. and the go-backs are crazy. they expect you to know where everything is, and it's impossible to know everything in your zone, because there's a billion items that look alike. and basically as a floor team memeber, you're the store's slave. when they need cashier backup, they call on you. when the cart attendant is out on lunch, or break, they call on you. when a guest needs something, they call on you. the team leaders are hardly ever there to help or anything. guests are always constantly asking stupid questions and expect you to know every inch of the store. trust me... apply for the cashier position, it's much MUCH easier. you stand there, scan items, recieve money, give change, EASY. i should've applied to be a cashier instead of floor team -.-' the pay is brutal too. you start off with minimum wage: here in cali it's $6.75, and after your three months probation, they give you an extra quarter. then after one full year, they give you an evaluation, and depending on how they think you do, they pay you accordingly. the most you can get on that raise is another .75 cents, but it's usually .33cents. here in cali, there's a shitload of people who wants/needs a job, so they fire you like nothing. i see people go and come all the time during my stay there.

Yeah, I knew you were joking, my friends and I basically laugh at sarcasm itself so it's fine.

If you couldn't tell, I was joking when I said that.

Pretend to be smart. You might be a good enough actor. Just kidding. you're probably not a good actor at all.

I'll stop with the jokes and be serious now.

In other words, nothing in that paragraph was serious. At all.

Just clarifying that for everyone. I'm not an idiot, I know pretending to know everything won't help.

Well, the best way to get you started is to answer here. What are your goals in life? What would you do in a bad situation? It doesn't hurt to be well prepared.

Yeah, those are the kind of questions I'd expect, but my last interview was like:

"What are your goals in life?"
"You are put into [bad situation], what do you do?"

Etc, really weird stuff that I have to think about.

You will do fine Xeo Just don't linger on the questions for too long. They shouldn't be that hard, from what I have been asked it's like "oh why do you want to work here.", "what can you contribute.", "how do you get along in a team situation." etc, probably not worded like that, but you get what i mean

The only thing that bothers me, is the questions.

And well as you're probably thinking now, yeah that's like the whole point of the interview.

The last interview I had just had weird questions and things, I'll have to prepare for those type of things tommorow I guess.

So yeah, it's tommorow.

If this fails, maybe my friend can put in a good word for me at Price Chopper.

Well, TP and Sparda basically covered it well enough. Just be yourself and you will do great. If it comes up, wow them with your knowledge of videogames, lol.

But yeah, I am sending you good luck energy and I hope you get the job. I just think it's trippy that the guy looks like Skold, lol.

I've never been interviewed for a job, but I might be able to help. Just try not to concern yourself with the other people that'll be interviewed the same day. Focus on your own interview, the only one you can control. If you worry about the others, you'll get nervous, and it'll show. And that's not a good thing.

TP's got all the basic stuff. Here are some minor details that could also help you and your interview.

1) Don't slouch. Slouching shows that you are not confident.
2) When you shake your interviewer's hand, be sure to give a strong handshake but not so strong that it gives the impression you are trying to hurt the interviewer.
3) Always look the interviewer in the eye. Try not to have your eyes wander.

Oh yeah, about the whole honesty part...well...this could and could not work for you. I mean, if you are completely honest, you may actually prevent yourself from getting the job. My tip is to be smart. Know what to say and how much you should say.

As far as jobs are concerned, I've never had to go to an interview..I live in centercity Philadelphia where everyone knows my family and I, so all I'd really have to do is walk in and ask for hours. (I really wish my family would let me though, but nnnnnnnooooooooo....they just keep popping out kids cuz they can pawn them off to me, but I do luv the kids.)

Anywho...I guess this would be like auditions in a sense...I highly recommend you follow TP's advice...it's all about being eligible for the job, yes, but when you've got so many that are, then it's all about confidence and how you present yourself. Don't walk in with an ego, but don't walk in with your tail between your legs either...I really don't know what other kind of advice to offer other than what TP said, he pretty much nailed it. Good luck! **glomps**

Oh YAY!!! I do hope you get the job Xeo I haven't had a real job before, maybe helping out at my dad's business etc and interviews, they are horrible, I really hate them

But as The Politician said, be enthusiastic, have a smile on your face and don't be afraid to ask questions. I will have my fingers crossed for you Good luck.

Some simple things.

Seem confident. Don't look down, and seem nervous or shy or anything. You may not get hired. Working at Target you'll of course need to work with an array of charectors.

Be enthusiastic! People want enthusiastic people, not bummed out boring people!

Don't look like a bum. Dress decent.

Try and fit big or smart words into your vocabulary. Makes the impression that you are intellegent (not that...you aren't already...).

You probably are aware of most of that stuff. But that's the basics. Although I probably left out a few things. Good luck, yo. Bring back state.
