I used to play Magic all the time, but I never could find anyone else to play with me around where I live, so I stopped.

I remember a local game store always used to have booster drafts every weekend. I actually placed second once. Good times...

well, it is more about tactic and luck. I mean, you got to think your plays out alot, u dont just wanna through all your mana away in one turn unless you have to. you have to be smart and think about each move. sometimes i mess up and play cards that decrease me blocking power, and Beowulf scores a point on me im so stupid, lol.... also, i second Beowulfs motion that DM isnt a rip off. it is so much better then yugioh and magic. you always have mana to play, and it doesnt take as long to beat your opponent either (5 shields plus 1 hp=quicker gameplay and victory, though not as fast as yugioh.) i like the fact DM doesnt have one hit kill monsters...

You know the least you can do is shut the flux up. (Well... you just gave me a idea...)

Look, Yu-Gi-Oh isn't that good. With all of these rules restriction, it seem to getting more bullshit everyday, wasting your money on some cards that they will restrict on (Such as Raigeki, or any overrated card.) and you are still few cards less, thank to the damn rules.

Duel Master? Just say it isn't a rip-off, because Magic the Gathering takes FOREVER to get it done. Duel Master don't take forever to get it done. Don't say it is a rip-off of Yu-Gi-Oh either. Because this time, it isn't all about skills or anything like that, it is luck and tactic you got to do. Beside, it is very easy to learn and fun to play...

Shaman's King is the hardest one too. This isn't going to show how much tactic you are going to use against your opponent, but focus more on how much mana you are holding PLUS your luck. It is like this: First person to score 3 points win. That's it. There are no alterate losing. The only way to lose is to let your opponent get three points. (Strange eh?)

I think we should ignore Tamarin's rambling!

Yeah, i also play Magic, Duel Masters, Yugioh, and Shaman King. Yeah, i may have blown over 2000 dollars, but hey, its my money! Anyway, i stopped collecting Magic before moving to Yugioh, semi stopped collecting Yugioh to go to Duel Masters, and i am now collecting Shaman King. I have to say, if you are going to play a card game based on a tv show, play DM or SK. DM is a mix of magic and yugioh, wherein all of your cards are mana. This means not worrying about drawing no lands and losing 4 turns later. Some people may call this game a rip, but it really isnt. If your tired of playin yugioh, and dont have the skills to play full blown Magic, play DM. You wont be sorry (also, you can get the really rare cards fast. if you buy 5 packs, you may get 3-4 super rare cards )

The other TCG im actively playing is SK. This game is based on how much luck you have, how good your deck building is, and how tactical you are. You start with 2 card in a green, yello, and red zone (your mana). Your green zone always recharges (another card added to it), but the other zones wait until your opponent stops your attack in that zone (IE: say you attack, its his turn and he charges his green zone. He then flips a card of his deck into the green attack zone. he cant stop your attack with the current card, so he can place it in his green mana zone. He then flips to the yellow attack zone. now he can block your attack, and it come back to you. you clean away the cards from your last turn (like your attack), and charge your green and yellow zone.) okay, none of that would make sense unless you were actually playing the game. The whole point of the game is to score points on your opponent. you score a point when your opponent cant block your attack in his red zone. score 3 and you win. you also have your shaman card. he has only 2 attacks, but you cant activate them until all 3 of your zones are charged at one time. these attacks are usually the most powerful attack you will play the entire game. also, all cards in your deck are influnenced by the shaman. the shaman can only use 4 types of cards (non-style cards, flame, heart, light, etc). The shaman has 3 symbols on the bottom of the card, and these symbols appear on all other cards. You can only have those types of cards in your deck. This adds a huge strategy element, because some shaman decks will be weaker against other shamans. in all, this game is just plain cool. it would be worth picking up because it is some thing brand new and kinda cool to play. though it is almost all luck, i like it. no more 2 turn deaths common in Yugioh and Magic. on a final note, there are no more deck outs. when u have no more deck cards, you memorize how much mana u have, and shuffle mana and discard together, and play out the mana you had. you keep playing until all 3 points are scored. sorry for this long post, im just really into TCG, if i bought em, i wanna play em.

Eh, Elara, I'm assuming you would've hurt them because the cards look nothing alike? Hell, I would've whacked 'em over the head with a random blunt object just for the Yu-Gi-Oh mistake - probably would've used the deck itself. Done that before, heh.

Ignoring Beowulf's rambling for a moment, as yet again he made no sense whatsoever to me, when I wasn't stuck against first-turn-kill decks when playing online (god damn, does anyone think winning on the first turn is fun? I sure as hell don't, but maybe that's because I was always the one losing) the games relied on a fair bit of skill. Yes, as with any card game, there was luck. But knowing the right time to use Computer Search and the right card to get from your deck had more of an impact than one's initial hand. And, if you wanted proof that Pokemon doesn't rely on the deck you use, I've had my water deck lose to a fire deck - anyone with half a brain cell, even if you haven't played Pokemon and have lived under a rock for a few years, would know that the water deck would win. My opponent was just really good. And, similarly, my Water deck beat a Lightning deck - less obvious, but Lightning does extra damage to Water pokemon, with a few exceptions.

I do have a Magic deck, a simple Green/Black deck. I also have no one to play with anymore. Mom's deck is in storage, so I can't beat her anymore, and... well, let's just say I ain't the most social person in the world.

Card prices lately are insane. I've seen Pokemon boosters for $10. Magic for around $7 last I checked, but that was long before I saw the insane price on the Pokemon one. I might start playing offline again when I get a job; I won't have bills to pay for two years, so I can blow a few hundred on Pokemon/Magic cards.

it'd be much easier to get a texas hold'em turny, as another club already did that, and it was in the skewl's newspaper too.

For awhile I was playing alot... it's how I met Cryus actually, lol... but now most of the Magic players at school don't come around anymore so I fell out of it.

that's cause everyone keeps playing Munchins -.-' =P i always say to play magic... but nopes Ross M. was all, we're gonna have a turny and everyone pitch in money for the boxes... but then wizards jacked up the price for southern cali, because we buy too many boxes at under the whole sale and retail price. at the cheapest a box was $69, but nope, now it's $100+ -.-'

I still have my decks though, my favorites being my White/Black Cleric deck with the Vile Deacons and my Red/Black deck with Crypt Angel and Soul Burn... gods I love those cards.

The thing that annoyed me though was people coming up to us and asking if we were playing Yu-Gi-Oh! The backs look a little simular at a glance I guess... but it's rather obvious by looking at the cards that they are not the same. At least they never said Pokemon, or I would have hurt them.

Right now, I am playing this new Shaman's King TCG.

But I used to play Yu-gi-oh, Duel Master, and Magic the Gathering. I could never cared about Pokemon because they are annoying...

But playing Shaman's King is much better than Yu-Gi-Oh since it is not official the damn heart of the *ucking cards. All luck will be used in this type of game. And if you think you still got the skill, let people laugh at you. This was never a skill game and you will be known for your stupidity.

What? It is true...

Instead of buying them, I used to trade N64 games for them back in the day like 6-7 years ago ...

Don't worry, I only traded Wrestling games.

I hate wrestling now too. (Have for the past 4-5 years)

But yeah, seriously I've seen the prices, and they are a huge financial waste ...

I forgot what happened to mine [Pokemon] I think I just threw them at some Park and left them or something because I didn't care.

I play Pokemon, but rather than blowing money on booster packs and never getting what I need, I just play on Apprentice. Instant access to all the cards.

Honestly, I don't see the point in spending that much money to play around here. Then again, that's because to my knowledge, there's no form of organized competition around here.

TCG? i think they changed the term to CCG now... LOL
anyways... magic: the gathering all the way... been around for over 10 years now. as i recall, over 12 now, if you count the original "mana clash" that failed due to lack of funds.

too much money spent on it =/ over $2,000. but that's over a course of 7 years tho... now, i dont even buy boosters anymore. i'm into swapmeet card hunting for old expensive cards from people who dont know what they have or parents who wanna get rid of it kind of deal. otherwise, i'd just play online now for type two. i'm not an otaku irl because i'm broke -.-' if i could, i'd spend millions of dollars a month on it, but sadly i cant. anyways... i'm pretty good. i cant believe as a beginner i lucked out and had a chance to buy a black lotus for 0.25, but was too stupid to know what it was, i reget it now. .25 for a $300+ card

anyways, i've got about 15,000 cards give or take a few thousand... too bad i was too young to play when the game started

Oh...god TCGs. Since this is just a general thread, I'll input my thoughts on this topic. I absolutely hate TCGs. They are a major waste of money. A small pack of cards range from 4-10 dollars which is absolutely ridiculous. I mean, half the time, there are just a couple slips of paper. Sure the art can be pretty cool, but that's about it.

And watching kids play Yu-Gi-Oh really make me insane. Sometimes, they try to be like the characters in the show, repeating those so called 'catchy' phrases, doing all these messed up poses.

"Beware, the heart of teh cards!!!"
"You shall lose fool!"
"Aha! The tables have turned!"

It seems Magic is a bit better than Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh, however.
