I wonder if the right wing thinks that this is the end times now or something?

It looks like at least every month another state drops the ban on same-sex marriage.

So marriage licenses for same sex couples have been issued here in Pennsylvania, at least one one county. An official poured over the state constitution and determined that the law passed to ban same-sex marriage was against the Pennsylvania constitution and therefore invalid... most other Registers of Wills are still upholding the ban... and many are trumpeting their "right-wing Christian, Republican" beliefs on the matter as justification.

So yeah, with that and the ACLU case that is coming up, I see Pennsylvania becoming one of the next battlegrounds for equality.

Pride SF has been pretty crazy this weekend.

It was my first time in a few years not making it out for Pride up there. Too many raver kids these days, for my taste. Also no nudity any more as I understand it.

Yeah, people didn't really give a fuck about that new law. And I was only there during the day, so I didn't see any ravers.

Yeah, I was more referring to Prop 8. Still fight's still going strong for the rest of the country that hasn't legalized it yet.

And, you know, this stuff is still going on in Pennsylvania.

Yeah... that whole thing disgusts me.

Not totally... there are still the 36 states that don't provide equal rights... but that is gonna be a slow, grassroots movement to change that.

I teared up at the gym when I saw the verdicts come down. After all the shit the day before with the Voting Rights Act and the Davis Filibuster shenanigans, it made me feel great to see both laws get struck down.

... I love you. Have I mentioned this?

It's so nice to have people that are just as screwed up as I am.

I had to let that one sit for awhile since I couldn't get over how stupid that was.

Still not quite over it. But yeah. What the fuck?

A 78-year-old French historian shot himself in the head beside the altar in Notre Dame in protest against gay marriage.

Not to disrespect the dead (though this will CERTAINLY be disrespectful), that is THE STUPIDEST reason to kill one's self I've heard in a long time.

I've been quoting that one for years.

I believe the current cases, at least the one against DOMA, are talking about equal protection under the law as provided by the Fifth Amendment. Their states allow their marriages as well as straight marriages... yet Federal law only recognizes the straight ones... that is a violation of their constitutional rights.

The basis of the California case, aside from Loving v Virginia and common sense, is that a right once given cannot be taken away.

Not to mention that it violates the first damn paragraph of the Constitution.

Thank you!!!! I'm not the only one who freaking SAYS that!!!!

Edit: I mean, even that article...this WHOLE thing shouldn't even BE an issue, because...you know...first amendment states that congress isn't allowed to care that religion is a reason for law....like...that point right there. You're the best. I have faith in humanity now.

I actually wasn't referring to the first amendment since, by their nature, amendments can be changed. I actually meant the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence, even though I said first of the Constitution. Hey, I can't always be right.
