|=.= war... cease fire... war.... cease fire... war.... twinkies... war... cease fire...
I'm on a diet... I have been craving doughnuts... like mad. But can't have them. So I stuff my face with fruit and cry in a corner as I see someone eating cake.
|And that makes me wonder why it's even news. I'll care when they get a cease-fire that sticks.|

There's already been several violations of the ceasefire from both sides. It's to be expected, sadly.

That people are trying isn't the sad part. Be depressed if they're succeeding.
Hope you'll forgive me for expecting this one to fall apart in a week.
|But as long as we have our Twinkies....|
|Twinkies are coming back.
And people are STILL trying to unload their boxes for hundreds of dollars on eBay. D'oh.
Thankfully, Israel and Gaza reached a ceasefire, though things are still tense, as they often are.
This image was one of the few that came from the conflict previously discussed. This Gaza civilian's home was bombed and his son killed:
|I don't even remember the last time I had a Twinkie or any Hostess related thing.
Needless to say, this doesn't bother me one bit.
Though, I guess I can also say that I sadly haven't really heard anything about those attacks other than on here, even though I'd definitely be concerned with that before a sponge-cake-thing's demise.

|Well, there's blame all around, but in a company as huge as Hostess was, a raise like that for the executives really is only a small drop in a large pool.
But still, it's more than a little ridiculous how this went down.

While we're slinging blame around, I'd like to point out that the executives are trying to give themselves millions of dollars in bonuses now.
So, y'know, there's also that.

|I think that this can actually be bigger news than we realize. Yeah, probably not as big as the whole Gaza strip thing, but let's just consider it for a moment...
Twinkies, one of the staples of American culture and unhealthy snack foods, a tradition that's been referenced in movies, TV shows, and books repetedly, is going out of business.
Yeah, you can say, who cares? I for one don't like twinkies, they just aren't that great. But let's look at the implications of this. If such a big company is going down, how many other companies are in danger? It's not about the twinkies, it's about how America's economy is slowly dropping.
It bothers me though, because just looking at this, Hostess was trying hard to rebuil itself, trying to make do with just some layoffs or pay cuts. Heck, the top four executives of the company dropped their pay for the year to $1.
But then unions started complaining, the employees went on strike because they didn't want these cuts, etc etc.
So then Hostess had to go bankrupt.
So yeah, maybe not as big as some of the international news, but to have such a big symbol in America disappear has some scary implications for our future.

No it's not. It's the easiest, most fun way to instigate on a massive level. Wanna cry about rejection being the worst pain a human being can go through? Fine. I shove scientific proof that actually, getting shot in the knee cap is one of the most painful euphorias that doesn't kill you. Might not be THE, but I didn't see rejection higher on the list than that. I get deleted on a daily basis.
That little friend request notification is a bullseye. People putting their own targets on their own backs. It's great.
And any who...yeah, I can see how this Hostess thing was annoying to see when other issues were being ignored, but Astrophel is right. Its still news. Locally, there was A LOT of fear and trepidation about whether or not they would have a job. Like...its easy to assume that jobs would be an issue, but it wasn't just something I was reading about. Since this has been going on, I've been in the room more often than not, with someone who's put almost 40 years into the company and are going to lose not just their job, but everything.
But like everyone else has pretty much been saying, yes, its been exceedingly annoying to see that everything was about hostess and making Twinkie jokes. Twinkies taste like shit anyway. But For the people who use social networking a billion times a day on useless shit anyway, they could have afforded more time on not just the hostess bullshit, but other issues as well.

News to me...
|Apparently Hostess and the bakers cut a deal. Sucks to be those people who paid $400 for a few boxes of Ho-Hos.
Anyway, Stitch and I watched a protest in downtown L.A. yesterday where a bunch of Muslims had Broadway closed down to pray in the middle of the street and had a blood donation area set up.
A cease fire is being discussed with Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey stepping in to try to get this all to stop.
|I should buy out the rest of the Twinkies at WinCo and get rich from the internet...|
|Yeah, but the "some people" you are referring to are the majority of the country. Yesterday was the first time I saw a single post about what actually is going on with the strike and the shutdown... otherwise it's just "OMG, my twinkies are gone! You bastards!!"
... or people selling boxes of Hostess snacks on eBay for hundreds of dollars.
|You know, given how many people lost their jobs because of this, I'd say it does qualify as news. Some people are being retarded about it, but there is a legitimate impact here.|
|America can be just, just outta hand...|
|I'm definitely going to miss Twinkies, however...
THIS IS NOT FUCKING NEWS, AMERICA!
I never got to visit the Gaza Strip (not that I would REALLY have wanted to, especially since I was supposed to be in Ashdod the day they happened to be rocket-bombing it), but I've been to the West Bank and I've been exposed to Israeli bitterness when it's come to the Palestinians and vice versa.
I really just wish this could all be sorted out without the bloodshed.
