...and my gun nut friends on Facebook strike again! They're saying that the police are heroes, when in fact, they fucked shit up worse than it needed to be. If no police were there, only one person would have been killed. Instead, they added to the list of injuries.  |

Back to the Temple shooting though...Media bias IS a problem, don't get me wrong, but shoving that debate aside for a second, I really do believe that there was less coverage out of respect for the Sikhs. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they're a fairly private people, aren't they? Sometimes the media finds a way to be respectful. Sometimes. I remember a few years ago a psycho went to an Amish schoolhouse and shot and killed some of the little girls. The Amish people are a pretty big part of Pennsylvania, and sometimes I forget that not everyone is as exposed to them, so forgive me, but I don't know if any of you remember hearing about something like that. The Amish are extremely private and still pretty removed...and the media didn't blow up the situation NEARLY as much as it does everything else it seems. Local coverage got the information out and all, but otherwise, respected their privacy. Perhaps its a similar situation? |

Now, I'm not in favor of eugenics, and holy fuck I never expected to have to say that, but seriously, there are a lot of people that should not breed.

Yesterday, when Brandon and I were on our way up to L.A., we ended up listening to the Kevin and Bean Show and they were talking about Dave Mustaine and having people call in with their own conspiracy theories.
Yeah... wow... I knew there were nutjobs, but these were really special people. Now when I think of conspiracy theorists, I picture older, white guys (overweight and/or tin foil hat, optional). We had young women, Latinos, African-Americans, etc all calling and speaking with conviction about hidden concentration camps on U.S. soil upheld by FEMA to move us into them and trap us there, water fluoridation being a mind controlling substance, and how there's that planet with a wide orbit that's going to swing through and end our world in December, among so many other stories. The young woman who called in for fluoridation kept bragging that she only drinks Trader Joe's Electrolyte-Enhanced Water and pretty much insinuated that everyone else was an idiot for not drinking it too. The latino guy who called in about Planet X actually said he was going to take his family to the place and the worst impact and "just end it right away." Kevin and Bean asked him to call them back in January to see how it all turns out, and the guy goes, "OK." Takes a moment, then says, "I don't plan on living, but yeah I'll call you." Holy crap, man. Anyway, there are people who seem to believe Dave's right. Eep... |

I want to visit Quebec... they wouldn't hate me too much for not speaking French if I did my best would they? It made more sense to take Spanish in high school, after all (you know, since Mexico is like right there)
But yeah, I have seen stuff in the papers about this but no major media circus. I'm just hoping that it's because they handled it right and not because the victims were minorities. |
