Well they need to have those things provided for them cause, you know, they can't get them themselves. And why do so many people seem to miss that prison isn't meant to be punishment, it's meant to be rehabilitation? |

Wait, prisoners have access to the internet? Since when? I have never heard of this, and as far as I was aware, they didn't have access to that, TV, or even a library. Is that stuff at least very limited or restricted for them?
Also, forget "cruel and unusual punishment", those who do the worst really do deserve the worst. :/ |

So this is going around now.
Pretty sure students have access to libraries and computer labs and the clothing is most likely just prison uniforms, but yeah, you sort of get the point when it comes to all the privileges inmates have while the rest of us get jack shit for behaving ourselves. We can thank all the activists who've pushed for the beneficial things because anything less is cruel and unusual punishment. |

That's not really the reason death row tends to be more expensive. It's because, when someone's life is on the line, they really, really want to make sure they're guilty, so they go through appeal after appeal, constantly going back to court and being reinvestigated, just to make sure. |

Very good point. Since they have to ensure you live until they kill you, you get better treatment than many people outside of prison will ever get.
... That settles it. Life in prison. Bring it. |

The question is, if he does get the death penalty, how soon would he be executed? If it's anything like California he could die of old age on death row with premium cable and top-notch, free healthcare.
Looks like Colorado doesn't give out the death penalty often, and have executed one person since the moratorium on capital punishment was lifted in the '70s. There's three people awaiting execution (one, Nathan Dunlap, for murders committed in '96), and the ACLU keeps championing for them to have more rights and amenities (Source, for them getting exercise and sunlight). As much as I wish I could be a true humanitarian, I don't consider people who commit heinous crimes worthy of the same rights and even MORE benefits than the average person who's managed to behave themselves and, you know, NOT kill a bunch of people. Still, I voted to do away with the death penalty last year, when it was on the ballot for my state, because death row inmates get preferential treatment compared with the general population. I mean, in Oregon, a death row inmate attempted to procure an organ transplant (he eventually didn't get it because he didn't fit some of the criteria, which they won't publish since it would violate doctor-patient confidentiality. Still Oregon's shelling out over $120,000/year to keep him on dialysis and this was reported 10 years ago. He's still alive). Would this have gone so far if he weren't awaiting execution? |

Sadly, I am sure that is along his thought processes.
I don't know if he should get death or not... I lean towards yes just because I think it sucks for Colorado taxpayers to have to support him for life in prison. |

The kid's lawyers were fighting tooth and nail today to not have him possibly get the death penalty.

I do not believe in execution for any man (with the exception of nuke threats). Even this crazy fuck. Moreso because, due to the rarity of executions, that means even more publicity for him.
However, it's not like our prison system is going to do any good either. How does one choose the lesser evil when all options are equally shitty? |

So the asshole's facing the death penalty.
Thoughts? |

Dane Cook is a fucking moron normally... but wow... way too soon, man. Fucking douche. |

Dane Cook made a shooting joke. LA bloggers are pissed.
It seems more like a joke about the movie than an insult to the victims, but understandably people are angry either way. Then again, it's Dane Cook. People were going to hate him no matter what he said. |

Oh he is crazy in some way, that much is obvious... but he was still cognizant of his own actions. I am saying he is trying to play it up to get the insanity defense, which he shouldn't get. Especially since the journal proves that he had planned it all out in advance.
And in case you didn't see the update on that story (don't know when the correction was made), but the initial report of it being there since the 12th was wrong. It was sent the Friday of the shooting and found on Monday... and mailrooms on campus are closed over the weekend. That error in the initial report is what concerns me. The media seems almost eager to paint him as a madman. |

Holmes sent a journal detailing what he was going to do to a university psychiatrist, but the package wasn't noticed until now. |
