My Sensei was asked about if you should register your hands as deadly weapons when you received your black belt -- he giggled and told the class that it's a REALLY stupid idea to do so. I can't speak for Georgia, but it's definitely not the case here. |

Man. I did karate when I was REALLY little, right before I started playing hockey. A little over a year, when I was 4-5. Then it got too expensive, and my step-dad put me in hockey, because that's what I wanted to do ANYway, and at the time, the playground was running a state fund thingie where it was free or something. I don't really remember the details on account of being pint-sized and all.
I just remember that I absolutely LOVED going to karate and until I found out I got my way with hockey, I was highly upset that I had to stop going. :p But I'd love to do that shit again. It's just still WAY too expensive. So, I joined a gym around here instead and just work out. That's been good enough for me lately. Joined about a month ago, went like....6 times already, and the changes are already obvious, so I'm excited that I'm getting my stamina back. Even if martial arts were free somehow, right now, I wouldn't have the energy to keep up just yet anyway :p |

It's a liability issue that protects the teacher and states that you will not teach any of the lessons because you are not certified to and you will not get into altercations under that teacher's name. I know it's stupid but I remember my commander telling me about how he could "teach me to fall with out spraining my ankle but it was against policy." I laughed. As if I need that awesome skill anyway. I sprain my ankle just standing. |

That is both the funniest and saddest thing I've heard. |

I stopped before Red due to GA state law that when you hit a certain degree in a martial art you have to sign a waver claiming that your body is a dangerous weapon and you are not permitted into damaging other people if you yourself get into a fight.
Meaning, if I had to defend myself. The state would sue me. So I stopped. E- Tae Qwon Do under M. Kim |

I got to yellow belt in Tae Kwon Do when I was 11, but I stopped going because it stopped being fun. They paired us for fights by height and I was the tallest, so I always had to fight the same damn guy every time and he fought dirty.
I miss it a lot, actually. |

I made it to green belt in shotokan karate when I was 12, but my dojo was too far away to go to every week and my parents stopped taking me.
I kinda miss it. |

too expensive for me and the Y has a tae kwon doe class and I have to buy a uniform... that was today
HOWEVER back in basic training and deployment I got to train in some army close combat and what ever style of jujitsu our radio guy taught. |

I am halfway through my yellow belt in Okuma-ha style Kenpo and I love it. Has anybody else practiced some form of martial art at some point? Is anybody learning one now? |
