Not gonna lie, I didn't watch the video, and I don't plan on it.
Honestly, Casualty made some pretty good points. I'm always saying "I hate when girls assume that ALL men are bad just because one hurt her." and he pretty much said the same, only on a much larger, more important scale. Just felt that needed to be pointed out. Because, I also do understand that there are plenty of shitbags out there to make one feel like everyone else might as well be too. But, for the sake of this thread, this IS an infuriating topic. The topic has different cultural reflections elsewhere, and I don't think that makes anyone good or bad...well, I don't think I have the right to judge others for being different, at the least. Personally? This is horrific. And would I have stopped? Most likely. I say this from experience in a VERY similar situation, also. But, would I knowingly stop? That's the thing. I don't think I would, nor would have most people. I think that it's more or less just this overpowering feeling that takes over, and the next thing you realize, you're on the other side of the situation, realizing you have done something VERY daring you wouldn't have pegged yourself capable of. (At least that's what has happened to me, and I am as certain as I can be that it would happen again.) And just like everyone else here it seems, despite my actual thoughts and feelings(as expressed above) my first instant reaction was "fuck people, man." So, yeah, I can totally agree with people on the other side of Casualty's point feeling how they felt as well. (middle sister syndrome, I'm now realizing. Always seeing both sides. Haha.) |

I finally watched it, and I think what shocked me more was how unfazed I was by the people just walking by without doing anything. I think I'm getting old. I mean, I'm disappointed, sure...
All the same, hats off to that woman who DID stop, who DID pick up the child and pull her from the road, and who called attention to the situation, thereby the girl was taken to a hospital. This comment was interesting, though:

This disappoints me... but you guys are making broad, sweeping statements about humanity. Sure, there are some lunatics on the earth, and there are some really insensitive people. But let me ask you this. Would you step up if you saw that? I'm tired of people saying "I'D STEP UP AND GET MYSELF INVOLVED IN THIS MESS". If you've ever seen the show "What Would You Do?", then you'd know that a majority of people would rather not get involved with such situations.
What if the person in the van was a murderer? Surely the driver isn't a good person, no sane person would do that. I'd rather not get some random crazy-ass fucker to swear vengeance against me. Perhaps I've ranted too much. I just dislike the people that say "Fuck the world. No one is good. THEY'RE OUT TO GET ME!" Been a while since I've posted here. |
