Jesus, when the 6.0+ finally hits Southern California because of the San Andreas Fault that's been overdue for over 100 years, people in the east aren't going to think it's serious. |

Hahaha. Well, not gonna lie...I'm pretty guilty of taking advantage of the local state of mind.
"Thank you for calling GameStop, blah blah blah." "Yo. You guyz clozed cuz a dat earfquake?" "Yes." I mean, I'm no geologist. I know next to nothing about these things, but the people who weren't listening to the educated people, and STILL freaking out, they kinda pissed me off a bit. We're unprepared. That's really the only thing about this kind of scenario that makes me nervous. But we're fine...but as long as my customers don't think we are, I'm happy...just sayin'. And the rumble WITHOUT the smell? **bows** Ultimate SBD, Bitmap. |

Everything's fine here. It woke me up, I thought it was just the washer being loud and went back to sleep. |

I've been laughing it up all morning with how many people are flipping out. Here in California, it's no big deal.
Seriously, though, since we're Earthquake Country we've got all our shit re-enforced. I'd hate to be on that coast where everything's built without concern for continental drift. |

Well... I think I felt it the most here at Ft. Meade. We're really close to Virginia.
It was also funny to find out that my school is built RIGHT ON THE FAULT LINE. |

**sigh** another 9/11? That was MUCH scarier here what that happened...
Yeah...people are retarded. They evacuated a lot of buildings here too...Honestly, I kinda always thought, it's 90% luck and 10% smarts to survive an earthquake here...especially since we're not really prepared. Oh well...off to work...before I'm late. Haha. |

Actually it was in Mineral, VA which is near Richmond. I felt it here, though it was much weaker... more a gentle swaying. I've heard people felt it as far away as Maine, Illinois, and Ontario. I heard that people in Washington D.C. were running into the street from their hotel rooms... which, coming from the west coast, I know is a really stupid idea.
MSNBC is reporting that people in NYC were clogging the 911 system to ask "Did you feel that? Was that an earthquake?" *facepalm* Quakes like this in California really are not a big deal, but part of that is because of all of the building regulations and retrofitting because they get strong quakes all the time. The east coast doesn't, and they have no retrofitting, so when quakes get above 4.0 buildings start falling down. And I've heard the first report of people thinking it was another 9/11... seriously?! |

Us East Coasters just experienced one...5.9. Not on the coastline, so we're not expecting any sort of Tsunami. (reporting this as the news tells me.) Came from Richmond VA. So, not sure if Bitmap felt it, True may have...you're in Virginia, right? Apparently the 5.9 came all the way up the East Coast all the way to Martha's Vineyard? I dunno...the news is reporting that the President felt it too.
Now, naturally, my facebook newsfeed is flooded with people either freaking out about the earthquake...and others criticizing the people who are freaking...point is, this isn't common for the East Coast, and, now that I'm starting to see that no one was hurt, I can admit that I think this is kinda neat. I know earthquakes aren't something to scoff at, and actually, the critics are pissing me off. We might not have had a terrible situation here today, but you know what? West Coasters know what this shit it like at it's worst...so anyone who isn't an idiot and actually has some sort of understanding that this phenomenon has caused havoc...serious havoc, has a right to be perturbed. **shrugs** But yeah... I was watching Paul...and a space ship was involved in the scene at the time...and my first thought was "Holy shit, this is the ultimate 3-D experience." followed by "They're coming." Those were legitimately my thoughts...so, I have something to giggle about at least. |
