Honestly it is YOUR birthday party and you should not invite anyone that you don't want there. If your best friend really is a best friend, he will understand that. Rachael crossed a line, and you are well within your rights to uninvite her for that.

What I would do is tell your friend (Rachael's boyfriend) that she had invited Steph and that you didn't want Steph to come to avoid issues with Jeff. Tell him that if he cannot make Rachael un-invite Steph, you'll have to un-invite Steph and Rachael. Be sure to say that it would mean a lot for you to come, even if Rachael can't (or won't) come. Certainly sounds to me that this Rachael girl is not very considerate of other people. At the worst, just have a list of invited people and have a parent or someone at the door checking off names - if a person isn't on the list, they don't get in...

Sorry if that seems harsh, but its what I'd do. You have a VERY difficult situation there. I wish you the best of luck!

Okay, so I'm having a birthday party this Saturday, and within my group of friends, a lot of them have dated and since broken up. So, when inviting people, I had to be wary of this; if I were to invite both people, it would be tense and awkward, so often times, I had to choose. And this was the case with my friends Jeff and Steph; they used to go out, had a bad break-up, and I could only invite one. So, I chose Jeff, since I have known him longer and talk to him more. Seems reasonable.

So last night, I'm talking to my friend Rachael, who is also coming. We're...friends, I suppose, but I'm not particularly fond of her. But I tolerate her because she's my best friend's girlfriend. Not only do I found out that she invited herself to the party when she found out that my best friend was going, but beyond that, she invited Steph to come along with them. I told her that it was a bad idea and that I didn't want her to do it, but she said that Steph knows that Jeff is going to be there anyway, and still wants to come. But neither of them stopped to think how Jeff might feel about it. Or me, for that matter. That'll be an awkward greeting: "Hey, I know I chose to invite your ex-boyfriend to this party over you, but welcome!" >.>

Now this is where I get conflicted on what I should do. My initial thought was that if she's going to be that rude as to completely disregard my wishes for my OWN party, to just ask her not to come, and then Steph won't come either. But if I do that, then my best friend won't come either, because he's kind of (and I don't like this term at all, but it really applies in his case) whipped. But if I just let it slide and the three of them come, it's gonna be very tense and awkward (Jeff and Steph had a VERY bad break-up), and that's something that I worked really hard to avoid, and that I don't want ruining my party. And it's a relatively small party too, only like 15 people or so, so I can't just like, hope that they won't run into each other. So I'm at a total loss on what to do. Someone help please?
