I heard something like the patch does not make your processor run at 100% all the time even with Dual / Quad core computers. Because the game does not even need 2.0 ghz to operate.

it also fixes bugs and memory leaks

I got two episodes done. And I seriously hope they don't suck. Hope you don't mind but I also got tipsy when recording. I think thats the only way to record. *Hic*

I'll be uploading later tonight when I go to bed so it does not interrupt my browsing.

E2- Holy shit Fraps got done with both of those movies and they are at 40GB!!! I need to compress them down a notch where it's still at a reasonable size and playing good before I upload. I should have it up sometime tonight!

What's the updated patch do anyways? I heard they allow you to hold 4 weapons now, which is still kind of silly. But oh well.

Yeah this game is a real treat on PC. Played it on hard and there were certain parts of the game where I was about to smash my keyboard in. Hahaha!

The first time I played it it was on PS3 and it was bugged to hell and back. Mirrors caused a weird effect, monsters would glitch out like something out of Fallout 3, and more.

PC version I experienced maybe one glitch but I laughed my ass off and waited for the glitch to be over with before the pig cop got himself together and started fighting me again.

But yeah, I beat the game on PC on Hard and it was a treat to experience. I still feel kinda bad that I said all those things on the earlier post. But if you have to experience this game. Please play this on PC. It makes a huge difference on what the PC version is capable of doing.

I'll start recording Wednesday night and I should have a video up by either Thursday or Friday. Either or.

Owned!

Haha but yeah man seriously, I guess you played it on the PS3 or something first time around? I hear that version is better than the 360's, but indeed... it still looks terrible. My computer is no beast at all, but by god it ran WAY better and looked way better on my PC than it did on the consoles. I honestly thought the game was pretty damn solid, I didn't love the penthouse stages at the start, but after that it was a blast.

I was going to say this in the actual video. But another reason why I am doing is because I am going to eat my own words. This game is actually extremely good on the PC, and with the updated patch it's even more awesome.

Only real way to play this is on PC. Console versions however are indeed terrible.

But I am making a public apology. And the way I am going to do it is by making the LP. The right way.

...drunk off my ass!

So, I know I absolutely failed on my FF3 LP.

But how about we spice things up a bit:

I'm buying Duke Nukem Forever. With my own money. And I am going to record myself playing it. For you all to see!

Duke Nukem Forever LP. Coming this Friday!

(I promise it wont suck)

E- Oh, and this is how serious I am: If I don't have a video by Friday then I want to be banned.

I'll seriously make this happen!

E2- Purchased. Now to download.

I just received the Balls of Steel edition.

Even if the game is bad (still haven't played anything else than the demo), it was still totally worth getting.

I mean, shit, I have motherfucking Duke Nukem on my speakers.

Playing it now, besides the LOL load times pretty good stuff I guess.

It's an FPS. What's there to expect

Yeah, my best guess is that the code for those early builds might sadly be lost, broken, or something like that. Who knows.

I thought the outside casino portions looked pretty damn cool.

Anyways, I do think it'd be interesting if Gearbox makes another game themselves someday, I think it'd certainly be a step up from this coming solely from them and not mainly from 3DR, and I'm sure Gearbox's time schedule wouldn't be a 12 year project. lol, until then I am stoked for their Aliens game, I want Borderlands 2, and after that... maybe another Duke would be awesome. Haters gonna hate.

I forgot to mention that this game made me realize how much I miss epic boss fights in FPS's. The only other recent comparisons I can think of are Doom 3 and Quake 4... and well, go figure. Hopefully id delivers some cool classic FPS bosses in Rage or something. Giant minotaur-like monsters with rocket launcher arms, hell yeah I miss that stuff.

This. After beating it and watching the old E3 Trailers for the unfinished builds, I had to wonder why they never just finished it up and released it...

Totally not worth $50 (what I spent), but I'd buy it for $35-$40. Haven't tried multiplayer, but single player seems legit.

A nice comparison, I'd say especially after the alien queen the game starts to play and really feel a lot like Half-Life 2 and FEAR in design, which was totally fine with me.

Yeah, not quite worth the full retail price, but it was not bad at all. I actually just finished it and seriously thought it was a pretty damn solid game. I think it started off really slow though, the casino/Lady Killer levels I kind of hated, but after that it was a blast. My only real complaint is the two weapons thing, but you were never really running out of ammo or anything so it wasn't too bad... it was also easy to stick with some weapons if you wanted, I used the Ripper throughout most of the whole game.

No offense Bit (and I've been arguing this to others and friends), but I don't think people should peg all the blame on Gearbox. All they really did was polish (is so, slightly failed too) the game, and probably simply made it actually release. They probably just wanted to get it out there before it never happened. Borderlands was incredible, every expansion pack and game Gearbox did on the PC was amazing, and I have full faith that their Aliens games is going to kick ass.

DNF is probably 90% 3DRealms dog. Just sayin'.

I haven't played much of this. You could totally be right, but yeah. Gearbox just threw in some money and got it out there, I'd say.

Well, the good news is this:

1- I beat the game.

2- I can finally give my review.

You know the saying "Always Bet on Duke"? Well, if you did, you probably lost. Horribly.

For starters, I canceled my preorder a few days before the release date because I was already playing it. And I'm extremely glad I did because this game is an absolute disappointment.

PROS

- It's a Duke Nukem game.

- Some of Duke's one liners are pretty hilarious.

- The interactivity is pretty fun

CONS

- Unfortunately Duke Nukem is in the wrong game.

- There is more interactivity than actually killing things. You can't call this a FPS if you are not killing things in first person.

- This game would have looked incredible in 2004. There are actual sprites in this game. Sprites. A few framerate issues on a badass computer and yet this game still kinda struggles in certain areas. Not to mention the seriously horribad load times. Even on the PC version.

- Extremely boring. Read about my FPS statement above

- A whole lot of mess and a whole lot of balls.

- Multiplayer is a total joke. Please avoid this. Please.

The title of this thread is "Always Bet on Duke". Which I did, I seriously was claiming that this was going to be GOTY every year! But Gearbox I feel should have wrote this game from the ground up instead of counting on 3D realms. Instead; what you get is a polished turd and has the name Duke Nukem written all over it.

Best way to play this game is this

1- Grab a beer. Alcohol might be important when playing this game
2- Dump your girlfriend.
3- Masturbate furiously when playing Duke Nukem Forever
4- Cry yourself to sleep for playing a terrible game
5- Finally, Don't buy this game.

A message to Gearbox: You guys are worse than 3D realms. Thanks for making me lose my faith in Duke.

Sounds like the PS3 version actually beats out the 360 one pretty good too:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-duke-nukem-forever-face-off

With 12 years of code and optimization, I'm not surprised how wildly different the versions run. But yeah, sounds like you guys should avoid the 360 version if at all possible.

Yeah PC version supremacy counting a big one on this game. Which is good because of mod support and all.

Played it on PC and it ran pretty good.

Definitely play this on the PC if you guys can, looks and runs way better than the console versions... and my PC isn't even that great!

So far, it's really not THAT bad. Reviewers sure are tearing it up though. Probably not worth $60, but worth checking out for yourself.
