Phoenix closed his eyes as the tentacle started to close in around him. Death felt so close, and there was nothing he could do.

It was just him and his memories, with the heat of his wings on his back. The memories screaming, louder in the darkness.

The immortal Dragon could not defeat me in battle, and how ironic that I be downed in battle by his son.

And then Phoenix's eyes snapped open. In that moments time, he had gained knowledge important to his life. The curse holding him from his true potential was being unwound by something, fluttering into oblivion. Blood and screams, friends and foes. War.

The tentacle could be seen closing slowly around the body of Phoenix, almost closing him in entirely. Phoenix concentrated as the light slithered out of vision. Holy fire burst forth from his being, the golden flames emanating heat at extreme temperatures.

The figure of Phoenix began to change form in the middle of this conflagration.

The temperature of the fire should have been enough to make the tentacle withdraw, sending Phoenix hurtling through the forest. If not, the wings of Phoenix would enclose around him, protecting him from damage with their new metal coating. One of the first changes brought on by the memories.

OOC: Auto-hit, sir. We'll pretend it's not one, but be more careful.

BIC: The thick hide of the tentacle was barely pierced by the blade, only cutting a pockmark for the blade to be dug into. The tentacle responded to his defense by curling around and attempting to to squeeze him. As he was fighting to maintain his position, it would be fairly difficult for him to escape the coiling appendage.

The tentacle ripped from the river faster than Phoenix had time to react. It smashed into his body with tremendous force, threatening to send him flying through the trees.

Phoenix was not about to let that happen, though. Instead, as the tentacle slammed into him, he held his sword aloft, tring to pierce into the flesh of the slimy limb. If it worked, Phoenix would hold onto the sword for his life, one hand on the hilt, and the other burning the slick flesh, drying it out so he could grab onto it without a problem. He would beat his wings to maintain the height of the tentacle, for now. If not, he would go flying through the forest.

What is this beast? Surely not..

Phoenix gasped for breath as memories continued to batter him. The rest of his body now felt like his already throbbing head. If the thing below the water was Leviathan, he was in trouble.

Leviathan raised his hands as the giant bird of flame slammed into him. He felt the phoenix attack lift him off the ground, but he held his guard. Soon, he had risen high into the sky, propelled by the force of Phoenix's attack. High above, the bird fizzled out, and Leviathan dropped like a stone in the rapids of the river. As he fell, a few charred scales from his forearms rained down slowly.

After Leviathan disappeared into the water, the river seemed to calm to an eerie standstill. The forest itself soon lulled itself into silence. Utter, complete silence.

Then came the crash. From the depths of the water, a massive tentacle tore from the silent water and swung madly at Phoenix. If it connected, it would sent him hurtling across the forest, as though he were launched from a cannon.

Phoenix heard the great crack of wood as the tree broke and toppled towards him. He quickly turned to his right to avoid the tree, but he had been moving too fast before. Without hesitation, Phoenix willed his body alight, and holy fire erupted all around him as he dove upwards into the tree, his golden sword slicing branches from his path. Phoenix was saddened to have burnt the tree, but with one look towards Leviathan, his sympathy was replaced with knowing.

Memories screamed loudly as the wide river below rushed by, Leviathan standing before it with a jagged smile upon his face. Phoenix now understood, and a strange calmness took over his body.

Without a second thought, holy fire erupted forth in the shape of a phoenix, its golden and red body in constant movement as the flames burnt. Ash flew back from the projectile as it grew larger in size with every inch it flew closer to Leviathan.

The war of the Dreamworld had officially begun.

Leviathan looked back and saw Phoenix following after, and his devastating grin flashed once more. Turning back, he suddenly lunged forward, leaping past a massive tree looming before Phoenix's path. His leap brought him just onto the large trunk, which he then pushed at with a great force. The tree cracked loudly at its bottom half until it splintered, which left the rest of the trunk to fall towards Phoenix.

This diversion was all Leviathan needed. Whether or not Phoenix was harmed by the falling tree, he would soon see past it and see only what Leviathan had been running for: a wide river.

Phoenix followed the path left for him in the trees, not letting the monster form his sight, lest he should be surprised or left behind. He flew quickly after Leviathan, leaving the clearing and entering the blue canopy of trees.

Phoenix wondered what the brute was doing, and urged his wings to carry him faster. He had to catch up before reached his unknown destination.

Phoenix's memories were screaming, but he could not focus on them as they blurred together. The gist of what they were saying was understood, though--whatever Leviathan was doing, it wasn't good.

Leviathan didn't flinch when Phoenix ascended into the sky, or even when his feet found ash on the soft bed of grass. Since he did not turn in the slightest, the fireball just missed him, hitting the ground behind him. He continued on, blowing through thick trees like toothpicks. He left a visible path of destruction for Phoenix to follow, should he feel so inclined.

Phoenix bent his knees as Leviathan charged towards him, his footsteps shaking the very forest around them. When the monster closed in, Phoenix sprang upwards towards the sky, his wings carrying him over the attack.

Before he had left his stance, though, Phoenix had left a thin sheet of ash coating the grass, hoping the monster would slip upon trying to stop or turn around.

As he cleared the attack, Phoenix spun around the face the back of his adversary. A ball of holy fire escaped from his hand and hurtled towards the leg of the beast. Phoenix hoped that it would catch him of the back of the knee, causing Leviathan pain if he attempted another charge.

"Let's see just what your stupid thumbtack can do to a monster like me."

With that, Leviathan dug himself into the ground, his thick grin flashing the sharp fangs packed together in his mouth. After building energy, he pushed off, charging at Phoenix with the unstoppable momentum of an avalanche. The ground shook with each crashing footfall, growing closer and closer to where Phoenix had drawn his sword from holy fire.

Phoenix was not expecting Leviathan to react so quickly, being as large as he was. Things were certainly different in the Dreamworld.

The headbutt smashed against Phoenix's own head, leaving spotted colors dancing in his vision. He was knocked out of the air and rolled backwards, his wings expanding to leave him sitting in a crouch. As the color faded into oblivion, flame appeared in front of him, and Phoenix reached for the golden sword bearing his name.

"It appears as though I need more than my hands to show you pain," and he rose to an offensive stance, his sword held diagonally.

Leviathan was certainly surprised to feel the seething pain rest upon his jaw. His massive frame lifted from the ground as his head cocked back, propelled by the flaming uppercut. Leviathan was no push over, though. He wasn't about to let this upstart think he'd one upped the mighty beast of the sea. As quickly as he had been punched, he dug himself down and brought his thick head down at Phoenix's, threatening him with a colossal headbutt.

As his punch connected, Phoenix was surprised at how much stronger he was here. And then he felt huge hands wrap around his back and lift him off of he ground. Leviathan flung Phoenix through the air as though he weighed nothing.

As the trees grew closer, Phoenix felt the spread of warmth take over his back as his fiery wings erupted forth. With a flap of these wings, Phoenix slowed his flight towards the trees and spun, landing on the side of the tree.

"Reminds me of someone," Phoenix growled, and then he pushed of, rocketing towards the monster as his hands smoldered with the growing fire covering them.

Just before he reached the hulking beast, Phoenix stopped his upper body with a flap of his wings, and sent a kick flying upwards towards his opponents large jaw.

Leviathan felt the punch connect with his gut, and for the first time since he stubbed his toe several weeks ago, he felt the annoying sensation of pain. He would not, however, let this deter his onslaught. He looked down at Phoenix, his eyes alight like the sun.

"He with Wings, Lord of Fire and the Deep."

With that, he reached at the back of Phoenix. As he more than likely succeded in grabbing, he would throw Phoenix towards the nearest cropping of heavy trees, hoping to break him upon them.

Phoenix ducked low as he saw the beast send a punch towards him, and continued his step forward, sending a punch of his own towards his stomach. He may not know the creature standing before him, but a fight was a fight.

The young man growled as his punch neared its target. "Who is this father you speak of, carp?"

The monster began to howl with laughter. "The pigeon still does not remember!"

Leviathan walked closer to Phoenix. "Father will be most pleased to hear the welcome I gave you."

With that, the hulking beast raised one of his massive arms and threw a hard punch at his foe. He would look incredibly strong to anyone, but in the Dreamworld, looks are only the tip of the iceberg.

As Phoenix watched as the hulking beast emerged from between the trees, a feeling of anger washed over him, though he did not know why. This was the first time he had laid eyes on him, as far as Phoenix knew. But his thoughts told him differently. They gave him a name.

\"Leviathan,\" Phoenix said aloud, though he did not remember the name.

Deliberately, Phoenix rose and faced the creature, trying to calm the fire dancing across his fingertips. \"Who are you, and what brings you here to disturb my rest?\"

From the misty depths of the forest, a hulking beast appeared. He bore the shape of a man, but his features were twisted into something else, something monstrous. His cerulean skin was covered by scales the color of deep, cold water, yet his eyes seemed to shimmer like fresh sea foam. His wide jaw revealed deep rows of sharp teeth, primed for rending flesh into oblivion. Massive, muscular arms dangled from hulking shoulders, reaching down to his prominent knees.

"It has been many years since I have felt the itch of ash in my nostrils. What brings the little pigeon to the Dreamworld?"

Leviathan chuckled with a voice that could have only come from the blackest depths of the sea.

"This world is yours no longer."

OOC: Open battle, besides Yasu and Vince. Lol. I am battling Yasu in a separate thread with an interesting method, and I just got done a battle with Vince.

Contract:
Three day post schedule, unless notified. If the battle exceeds ten pages, a panel of judges will make the decision.

Battlefield: The Lucid Forest. A place between the Dreamworld and the mortal realm. The thin forest stretches on forever, in theory. In it wander many things caught between the two worlds, cursed to wander limbo forever, \'less they find the way out. A large river runs through the Lucid Forest, branching out into many small streams that weave their way between the loosely grown trees.

BIC:
Sunlight cascaded downwards from the three suns burning in the bright orange sky. A few clouds floated lazily in a soft breeze, their hue a light green. The breeze picked up once more, and a blue leaf fluttered downward to alight in front of a man sitting cross legged upon a flat rock. The man appeared to be meditating, his eyes closed as though in deep concentration, and soft hands lay unmoving upon his knees.

Phoenix suddenly opened his eyes, his concentration broken by the snap of a twig echoing in the clearing. The sound had come from the surrounding forest, and Phoenix felt someone approaching his resting place. Someone strong.
