Seriously, these bad apples (school shooters, people sneaking things onto planes, terrorists, bombers, etc), are ruining it for the rest of us. Now we've got metal detectors in schools, video cameras everywhere, people digging through our personals in our luggage, and we're freaking losing our right to say what we want.

Now granted writing to people to mockingly say there's going to be a shooting tomorrow, that's nothing of true substance. That was just stupid.

We went through this in high school. A friend of mine called in a bomb threat to the school (from a payphone on campus, I might add). There wasn't any real reason behind it other than he just wanted everyone to be evacuated and classes to be delayed. He was arrested, put in jail for a month, and sued the school later and won for a wrongful imprisonment. He ended up going to a private school on the taxpayers' dime.

I should also add this happened a month before Columbine.

Anyway, a year later, rumors started flying around school that on Cinco de Mayo, he was going to come to school with a gun. He was arrested, without any proof. As it turned out, a local amusement park was doing nickel admission that day, and people saying this guy was going to bring a gun had a convenient bullshit excuse for not being in class, claiming that they were scared it was a real threat.

Ugh...

I know I'm the one who derailed this thread in the first place, but more serious please (even if poking fun at Xeo is fun).

I'm amazed by how much kids don't think before acting. In the past few years, in North America, there have been quite a few school shootings. This means that threats are gonna be taken seriously.

I mean, that's obvious; why don't people understand?

when do we admins get that magical ability to ban people from the internet?

This I would also like to know.

And this is why we have PSAs against cyber-bullying and warning kids not to post something stupid online.

But then, making any sort of threat over the Internet is just moronic.

Our paper got one in a comment to a follow-up story about Jessica Shekell (student who drove drunk going down the wrongside of the 91 in the FastTrak lane, killing two people in the accident that ensued). The comment was written to sound like a gang member saying that he and his crew now know what she looks like and they're going to cruise around her around and kill her. Something like that. The comment has since been deleted with their IP address turned over to the police.

Jesus tapping-dancing Christ.

Read, discuss. Seriously, how dumb can people be that they think posting threats on Facebook is a good idea?
