Wow, it's the freaking end of the decade. And this one didn't even really have a name. People still call the year "Two thousand ... "

Any make the transition to saying "Twenty ten" yet?

Well, I've certainly been out of the loop for a while now. I'm on leave, back in Minnesota, until the 3rd. Just a few more days. I haven't been home in about a year and a half. I went to see friends, hung out with family and did some fun activities. Got some good presents this year.

Good trip out for Christmas 2 with Brandon's family. Went hiking along riverbeds in the snow, went through some native ruins that you could actually climb the ladders of and walk into, ate all kinds of crazy amazing food (some in what's been deemed a haunted restaurant), and went through the giant dinosaurs from the Peewee Herman movie which have since been purchased by a group that swears evolution is a myth.

I love winter break. Lots of great hiking.

It's seriously a miracle our car is running.

Been awhile since I talked to my aunt in Missouri but I think I remember her saying they at least plow the highways... however I noticed that on the holidays it takes forever. I was sorta snowed in at my grandma's house a few years back... the streets were plowed by the city right away but the highway (the only way out of her little mountain town) was still snowed in so we were stuck for awhile. It was not a pleasant experience but that was because my dad was being a douche. It just took them awhile to get out there and get the road cleared, that was all.

Sad that the first report of a vague snow-in came from California, huh?

But yeah, our Christmas was a bit chilly but overall it was clear and warmer than it had been (wind made it colder). I worked 6 hours only on Christmas Day but it was a slow and annoying shift as literally everything in San Pedro was closed and I had to drive twice as far as normal to get some place that was open for lunch (Del Taco). Kinda annoying. Present hall this year was small but nice... some cash, some gift cards, a nice scarf, a blanket, some DVDs (Rome and Star Trek), beer, beer bread mix. Part of the cash was to pay for my upcoming GRE exam so yay! Oh yes, and candy... two boxes of chocolates that with my friends help will soon be gone.

Mining for tourmaline? I wanna do that!

Oh yeah... as a yearly thing on the day after Christmas, Ben's dad takes him and his sister (and significant others) out to either a museum or the zoo or something. Last year was the zoo, so this year was the LA Museum of Natural History. I don't know if I'd ever been there before, if I had then I was very small and remember little. It was fun despite half of it being under construction. Got to touch a T-Rex toe bone and they had an entire room for minerals (i.e. gems)... lots of tourmaline there. Plus a red diamond, the second largest in the world (still so small, like 5.3oz) and it was beautiful! So at least I can say I got to see a rare diamond as a gift of sorts, right?

Yeah I think I've done a 14 hour day or so back at Jiffy Lube... but the situation with that was kind of similar as well, haha. After shop closing hours we did inventory while drinking a bit, so it was all fun!

Two feet of snow? Jeezbuz.

Once though, just once... I'd like to experience "being snowed in". I have no idea why and it's probably ultra inconvenient, but it'd be a cool story?

Roads are getting better around here. How are the places for you guys? I was talking to my friends about it who've lived in other States and it sounds like places are different about cleaning up the roads. I guess some of my friends went down to Missouri over the weekend and they don't plow at all! That's gotta suck. Around here they just get the main streets... so on longer drives home, the closer you get to home... the worse and tougher it gets, lol.

The annoying thing though is that my car is insanely bad in this kind of weather and I have no idea why, it must be the tires or something. My friends small 2 door Honda handles twice as better somehow, so something is definitely up. The brakes raddle a lot too when it's hard to stop... even though all the brakes are new this year.

Worked 12 hours today, but I scored off for New Year's Day, so that's good.

Got some necessities, and a hundred bucks, collectively. Like the Boss says, free is free, so I was stoked.

Worked a 19 hour day Christmas Eve. (Yup, that's right, was in 7am sharp, and didn't get outta there 'til 1am.) but, it was fun. We were only open 7-7, so after cleanup, which wasn't finished until about 10:30, it was marketing and having a few beers with the boss and District Manager. **shrugs** So it wasn't too bad and I was paid.

And, yeah, I had a white Christmas alright. Over two freaking feet of snow! We're used to snow, but not like this. Snow is still that thing where three or four inches is like "ZOMG, it's fucking snowing!!!" and school are closed and shit. **shrugs**

BUT, I ended up having fun. I whitewashed the shit outta my nephew coming home from school one day. For those who don't know what whitewashing is, or who call it something different, I'm talking about tackling someone, rubbing their faces in the snow, burrying them, dumping them...basically kicking the shit outta someone, only in the snow, and with snow. **shrugs** It can be quite barbaric, as my nephew refered to it as. Haha. And then, when my brother-in-law tried getting me, one of my not so tiny friends got him instead. So...payback?

Heh, my brother and nephew got up an hour before I had to leave for work, were outside digging and making sure the snow pile was soft and not freezing, since it was mostly becoming ice by this point, my brother grabs me as I walk out the door, drops me in the pile, I immediately sink to the bottom, and he and my nephew both respectively sit on me until I can't get up anymore as they burried me. They got me good. I seriously couldn't breathe, and the snow was so heavy I couldn't get up. But they got me out right away, so in hindsight, it was quite hilarious.

Who had a white Christmas?

We actually got like 8-10 inches from later Christmas Eve day and onward, it just kept going and it was so windy almost looked like there was a blizzard, lol. And yeah that's the night I went to see Avatar, it was still worth it!

I remember when snow was awesome as a kid though ... now with a full time job and a car, it's the biggest pain in the ass ever.

My present haul was relatively small this year. Mostly scarves and gloves and a little bit of money. Not surprised, since last year both Brandon's and my family started this whole "We shouldn't feel pressured to give anyone anything, especially during this depression" agreement not to give anything. The scarves were immediately put to use leaving for Arizona yesterday, as it's practically freezing and we had a carload of people.

I'm quite surprised our car made it actually. A couple days ago, while heading out for a hike, there was a rockslide while trying to avoid running over a rock with the tire, Brandon swerved, and the underside of the car took the hit. We immediately pulled off and noticed the sure and steady leak from the gas tank. Luckily a Triple-A tow truck was at the same pull-off and he patched our tank and towed us home. Seemed after we patched the tank ourselves, a series of other things went wrong where the car just didn't want to start for a day and then wouldn't idle. This all after having to replace the master and slave cylinders late last week.

Well, life would be boring, I guess, without these problems cropping up. Still shocked we made it the 400 miles. When we got out, the car started making a weird noise and leaking what looked like coolant. Huzzah.

Yup, happy holidays folks.

Scored a new slim PS3 from my parents/grandma (though this was last weekend, slow update!)... other than that, just got a few random necessities. At my age though I can't help but not feel disappointed at all though... any free thing is free, can't argue that! But yeah, still easy to tell the economy is hitting lots of families. Hope 2010 picks things up.

Yeah, Pat comes to Voidcrush shows and we hang out when we can. His grandmother just passed away.

The last time we hung out, he, Christina, her roommates, Brandon and I were watching bad porn and commenting on it. "Porn Wars" sounds like it's gonna be good, but damn... just... damn. Had to watch the sex scenes on fast forward just to get back to the story. "Pirates" has spoiled our generation.

Anyway, Merry Christmas, everyone!

Hmm, panning for gold. I do want to try mining for tourmaline some time.

I think you are one of the few people that still has contact with Pat at all, he seems to have cut all contact with the rest of us.

Bailey's Canyon eh? Sounds neat. We went hiking up at the east fork of the San Gabriel River once, it was pretty fun... saw lots of people panning for gold.

I haven't really heard of anything going on for New Year's, but then again I've been buried under the CSUF rock(slide) for the past year. I mean, I still see Pat and Christina when I can (and Lee whenever he or I can visit), but otherwise I hear nothing unless I get invited to a party at Rosy's or something.

If anyone's got anything going on, it's probably Pat. Otherwise, Brandon and I end up going to Marty and Becky's.

But in answer to the first question, mostly just finding new places to hike. Bailey's Canyon was that last one on Monday that had a waterfall. Brandon and I just sat and listened to the crickets and birds, the trickling water, the occasionally rock falling and us breathing. It was one of those places where time and the rest of the world just fall away as you sit there.

Where all have you been running around at Rogue? Sounds fun.

I've been zipping about between work and finishing up last minute shopping. I probably spent more than I should but I can use the remaining bits of my financial aid money to help cover rent for next month, plus I get paid again next week. Most people got cheapy things like brownies or candy canes, but family actually got presents, with Ben's being most expensive (new speakers). Going over to my folks tonight for gift exchange since I had to work on the Solstice, but hey, free tamales right? Also stopping by WhiteRose's house to drop off her and Oni's gift since I know they got us something.

Still trying to find out if anyone is doing anything for New Year's Eve. The gaming group was trying to convince us to do something but after what they did to our place last night they will be lucky if we continue to host gaming, let alone a New Year's thing. You know of anything Rogue? I feel so out of the loop.

Oh my god... I'm so sorry. Hope things work out and your dad starts treating your mom better.

As fate would have it, we may not be able to go to Arizona this weekend afterall. We'll see. Don't want to jinx it.

Holiday plans?

Work. Work. And more work.

Although, I baked lots and lots today, because I can't afford gifts this year. So, a friend of mine came over, and he was my kitchen bitch for the day.

Otherwise, yeah...doesn't even feel like Christmas this year. Just like another day at most...and yet somehow, I like it. I'm not stressed this year. It's a bad year for everyone of my family and friends...and...with few exceptions, I like it. No one's at each other's throats or being really competitive and nasty. My sisters all brought home dinner for my friend and I and sat down and ate with us, and we all got along. It's just nice. **shrugs**

Happy belated Solstice, y'all!

It's probably the first time in years that no family is traveling any great distances to be in Southern California for Christmas. Just going to be Brandon, my parents, some of my dad's clients and friends, and perhaps my grandmother if she's up for us picking her up and bringing her by.

So far I've been thoroughly enjoying having nothing to do except go hiking or sit and read. This past weekend was great, though. Knife and ax-throwing, a banquet, hanging with Stitch, brownies at the observatory, beignets, mojitos, Christmas lights and coffee, and hours of air hockey. Spent yesterday hiking to a waterfall, meditating, and then gorging on cheese bread for dinner. Mmmm...

It's ok, just wanted to let you know so you could fix it. And I like your layout, ancient is cool... hell, I think I've had mine for nearly four years now.

Sorry about that Erlara, Photobucket deleted my pictures, so I commented out my post header, but not my post footer. I'll fix it for real eventually, but for now you all can be deprived on my ancient layout, xD.

On topic:

Oh, I will be hanging out with a lot of friends I haven't seen in ages, if that counts as anything.

I get to look forward to spending time with my dysfunctional family and fighting most of the week, all while not having a significant other to be happy with...

I hate the holidays. Bah humbug.
