Oh, and Valhalla, Reefer Madness (the musical) does actually spoof the idea of Reefer Madness. They're not saying the same thing.

Still, neither makes a single true statement about it and the musical actually plays off of the fact that the original was so lame, while still relaying the original's "message".

Marijuana would be sold and taxed openly in California to adults 21 and older if legislation proposed Monday is signed into law.

Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, D-San Francisco, said his bill could generate big bucks for a cash-starved state while freeing law enforcement agencies to focus on worse crimes.

That arguement has been used by pro-cannibis organisations for years. Why has it taken so long?

The only reason it's being considered now is the economy.

Definately an awesome idea in my opinion.

It's hardly like weed is a harmful drug... Only really affects people who already have mental disorders, and even then, a lot is needed for it to have a substantial affect.

It seems only time will tell on this situation as all it takes is the federal government to open their eyes.

Pot shall save the economy, how funny is that?

But yeah, I can see him considering it out of financial reasons. I seriously doubt that he would be able to convince the federal government to overturn the ban on it though. Then again, he is basically married to a Kennedy.... hmn........

Well the fact of the matter is, last year when dealers and stoners got together and wrote him a letter pretty much reading, "TAX US! You're guaranteedly going to make bank," he actually took the idea into consideration.

To say the very least, he tries.

The Second American Civil War: Rise of the Stoners?

Oh that would just be sad if it came true.

The DEA wouldn't stand a chance against California's own Cyberdyne Systems model T-101!

That was the satire that I mentioned, but then again, not really a satire because it's basically stating the same exact thing as the original!

Ah. There've been several retakes on Reefer Madness with the musical just being the latest one.

Well, it is a weed. It's capable of growing anywhere. Hydroponics just happens to be the typical method of cultivation since most people can't just grow it outside without concern of a nosy neighbor calling the cops.

Either way I predict more DEA raids. No matter what California says, they still swoop in with their, "Federal law still supersedes state, you reefer fiends." It's fucking ridiculous.

I say legalize it. Honestly, it is not some slippery slope thing, just like cigarettes are not. The only reason that people say it is is because it is illegal and they want to keep it that way. The only problem is the federal government, but there is a chance that the state could get them to review their illegalization of the drug based on recent data.

And as far as growing one's own, it's a lot harder than just adding water and a bit of sunshine. Not that I've done it, I just seen a lot of shit on the History Channel. >.>

I'm all for this idea and I hope that it passes. I hate all drugs (yes, even aspirin) but if it can patch up the economy a bit, why the hell not?

I'm sure whoever is going to smoke it when it becomes legal is already smoking it right now, haha!

Or the musical! It can be cheesy as well, but it's still better than Cocaine Fiends.

I think so long as you also tax seeds and plants, sure, that'll help. I mean, if you can grow your own, why buy it from someone else?

Okay, I want to slap this guy silly. What about all of the people that smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol? Of course he would probably be against getting his wine that he drinks at dinner banned.

Here's what I would do if I ran the country. I would lower the legal drinking age to 16 and raise the legal driving age to 21 like Germany. Drunk driving doesn't happen nearly as often over there because young teenagers don't drive far out to get hammered and usually don't find it as big of a thrill as teens do over here. Responsible drinking is also heavily emphasized over there.

I would tax the shit out of cigarettes because they have been proven time and again that they are addictive and harmful, therefore discouraging people to buy them or even possibly discourage people from trying them in the first place.

Marijuana has been stereotyped (see Reefer Madness, either the original or the satire) since we found it. It's been smoked for centuries by multiple cultures and there has been no proof of addiction and is less harmful than both cigarettes and alcohol. If it's legalized then most teens who use it because they want to "rebel" against something won't do so (trust me, it's a psychological thing).

For myself, I hate marijuana mostly because my dad used to smoke it and I hate the scent, but that doesn't mean I'm going to be butthurt and ruin it for everybody else.

What's everyone's view on this? It's my personal believe that marijuana will be legal in all or most of the US by the end of this "recession".

I'm of the opinion that drugs should be legal, if only so that the government can control who has them, rather than unsafe dealers.

So yeah, make it legal.

California bill seeks to legalize marijuana
By Jim Sanders
The Sacramento Bee

Smoke weed — help the state?

Marijuana would be sold and taxed openly in California to adults 21 and older if legislation proposed Monday is signed into law.

Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, D-San Francisco, said his bill could generate big bucks for a cash-starved state while freeing law enforcement agencies to focus on worse crimes.

"I think there's a mentality throughout the state and the country that this isn't the highest priority – and that maybe we should start to reassess," he said.

Critics counter that it makes no sense for a Legislature so concerned about health that it has restricted use of trans fats in restaurants to legalize the smoking of a potentially harmful drug.

"I think substance abuse is just ruining our society," said Assemblyman Paul Cook, R-Yucca Valley. "I can't support that."

"I think it's a slippery slope," Assemblyman Tom Berryhill, R-Modesto, said of easing pot laws. "We'll do everything we can to defeat it."

Medical use of marijuana already is legal in California, but the new legislation would go a step further by allowing recreational use.

Assembly Bill 390 would charge cannabis wholesalers $5,000 initially and $2,500 annually for the right to distribute weed.

Retail outlets would pay fees of $50 per ounce of cannabis to generate revenue for drug education programs statewide.

The bill would prohibit cannabis near schools. It also would ban smoking it in public places or growing it in public view.

Before California could sell marijuana openly, however, it would have to persuade the federal government

So, what do you think? Is this good idea, or a bad one? I agree it could easily be legal and would bring in lots of money to the government. I kinda agree with it.
