feudal times you say... I like Oak Hurst... then you could do a Task Force...

I think the Oakhurst one would be best to do first. From what you were telling me it sounds pretty interesting.

If that one is a no-go, then I think Task Force would be cool. It would be neat to play the other side of this conflict.

With Bon Reve approaching it's climax, I'd figured I should ask this now. The next RP in the Superverse (run by me, at least) is up for debate. Depending on which gets the most appeal, I'll run that one first, but more than likely, all three will be run at one point or another.

Options:

Task Force-The direct sequel to Bon Reve, the eponymous task force will investigate the events that transpired there. All characters (unless spoken to me) will be ISPF agents.

Oakhurst- An RP about the mysterious feudal country Oakhurst and why its ancient walls and ancient ways still stand in the modern day.

Paradise Square-In the slums of New York, a vicious gang war has been festering for twenty years. In a place where the law fears to tread, the poor fight for what they believe in.

Well, there is always Joker. Depending on what story you believe about his origin, he was just fucked up from the start and got worse with time.

The guy became the UN ambassador for Iran for crying out loud after killing Robin.

Well, the whole "theme" of the Spiderman movies was that all the villains had some good in them or some crap like that. It got old. Sometimes we just want crazy motherfuckers that want to ruin the world, you know?

And a lot of them became villains because they were already not too decent people, who stumbled into a lot of power and went "Hmm, how can I improve my life easily with this?"

Yeah, I don't follow the Spider-man 'verse as closely as most of the other Marvels (X-Men in particular). Doesn't surprise me about the character changes for the movie. It happens way too often in comic book movies (Barbra Gordon was Alfred's niece? Double-you tee eff, mate?)

The message is still there, though. A lot of villains have their reasons. They didn't just wake up one morning and decide, "Dude. I think I'm going to be evil from now on."

Well... it's possible that's happened a few times before in comics. There's plenty of villains out there who turned to crime because they were bored.

I also forgot to mention people like Magneto. Magneto falls in with Hitler in that he not only wants mutant liberation, he fuckin' wants his kind to be the dominant species. Why? Because he's been a victim all his life because of various reasons and he's sick of other people's bullshit. He was born special, he feels he's of the more evolved race, and he wants what he thinks in coming to Homo Superior everywhere.

Hate to rain on your beautiful speech there Rogue, but one tiny thing: Sandman wasn't trying to help his daughter, that was just Hollywood taking a crap on Spiderman. He was just a thug, in it for the money.

Still, even the truly insane ones, like the Green Goblin, had good intentions at first.

And no matter what type of villain, they are all considered villains for one reason. As Dr. Horrible put it, "It's not about making money, it's about taking money; destroying the status quo, because the status... is not quo." Everyone that is considered a villain disrupts the status quo in some way.

"What makes a villain?" one might ask themselves.

Most answer, "They're evil. What more do you want?"

But it goes so much deeper than that.

Take your typical hero--through all their faults, they're basically good people. Or at least they try to be. The ideal hero, super or otherwise, is striving to achieve peace, order, and overall do it without needing to kill anyone. It seems no matter what they try to do what's right and save as many people as possible.

Now with villains, all bets are off.

Not to be cliche, but look at Hitler. Do you think he believed he was evil? Probably not. Chances are he thought he was improving the world with the atrocities he did.

Villains often believe they too are doing the right thing. Perhaps in their quest for world domination, they feel they can save a rotting world. Does the name Light Yagami ring any bells? Basically these people are trying to accomplish an ideal goal, but through some very wrong means. These characters are often known as anti-villains.

What's more, there are some villains out there who do what they do to save someone else. Ever heard of Jean Valjean? Went to jail for stealing a loaf of bread to feed his family? Flint Marco/Sandman became a thief to help his dying daughter. Mr. Freeze steals to build up funding to save his terminally-ill wife, Nora, whom he keeps in suspended animation 'til he can find a cure to save her. Anakin Skywalker became a sith because he felt he was saving Padme from death.

Going down the list again, we get the misunderstood and unfortunate souls who became evil due to circumstances. X-Men's Rogue was originally a villainess under the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants because she didn't fit in with the heroes, and what's more she was Mystique's adopted daughter.

This and the category above it are not necessarily villains by choice, but an uninvolved observer would see them as such.

Then you've got your standard rogues' gallery of murders, thieves, tricksters, the insane, and the power-hungry. They're probably well aware that what they're doing is wrong and they're probably just doing it for fun. It's all a game to them and when they face off with heroes, they are usually not concerned as your typical hero tries not to kill and what's more the justice system usually dumps them back on the street in a matter of weeks. That or they're adept at breaking out.

So when you take into consideration what your "evil-doer" is up to, the question remains: do they choose to be the way that they are and are they aware of what they're causing?

Villains are often the most complex characters in an entire storyline as there are so many reasons why they travel the road not taken.

If you need some reading on the topic, I thoroughly recommend Watchmen (written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons). Granted it's mostly a rag-tag group of anti-heroes, but you HAVE TO read it some time.

This is a reference thread for any possible situations taking place in the Superverse. It's nothing too original, but I figure it might be interesting if we all had one (optional) universe to create our heroes and villians in. The first RP to take place in this universe is Bon Reve. Also, if anyone has any ideas for additions to this thread, post and propose it, and if it's good, we'll write it in.

Table of Contents:

+Timeline: (coming soon)(to include large events which have produced superpowered humans)

+Role of the Superpowered

+Medical Jargon (coming soon)

+LeBronc Classification System

(more in the future)

Role of the Superpowered

Superpowers are controlled fairly bureaucratically in this world. When a superpowered human's powers have awakened (due to heritage, accident, condition, whatever), most register these powers with the LeBronc Institute. The LeBronc then diagnose this person, classify them according to their acclaimed classification system, and provide them with a license and medical forms. Superpowered humans then can enter society as an 'Inactive' (a superpowered human who performs normal jobs and does not use their powers), or they can apply for various positions known as 'Active' jobs. An 'active' superhero gains a license to use their powers in public property, as long as the LeBronc Institute permits this.

Active superpowered humans can take jobs for the private sector or enlist in the ISPF (International Superpowered Police Force).

Sadly, there are many 'Active' heroes who are unemployed and only survive by taking odd jobs such as rescuing cats from trees.

But, just as there are heroes in this world, there are villians. There are villians who commit crimes for themselves, professionals who act on behalf of hired benefactors, and vast legions of underground superpowered mafias, known as guilds. Also, any superpowered human who uses their power without a license (unless it is ruled in courts as a 'trigger event', or the first time the person learns they have their power) is a criminal in the eyes of the law.

LeBronc Classification System:

D: (Minor Enhancement) This superpowered human is essentially a normal human with a slight boost to their abilities. People with non-combat skills often fall into this category.

C: (Significant Enhancement) The most common brand of superpowered human, they are noticably different than humans in some way, but still capable of being controlled by a normal police force.

B: (Major Enhancement) This level of superpowered human makes them able to be a possible danger to society. B's are closely watched by the government and the LeBronc Institute.

A: These superpowered humans are extremely dangerous, and extremely rare. A-ranked superpowered humans can only be stopped by other A-ranked heroes. They are akin to demigods.
