Kate, if you and Chris can get me a job at a Gamestop, I'd love you both forever. I'll cook you guys dinner every night.

I'd like to see more tournaments too. My store has a big Madden tournament the day after the Midnight release every year. When things are street dated, we can't play them before midnight, and when we start selling, people just want to go home at that point. But people start lining up at like 9 at my store for some odd reason...so we all had a real football tournament in the parking lot. Haha.

The Play and Trade around here is located in a mall...which could be ideal for some sort of tournament...or it could be a disaster. I'm kinda on the fence with that one. If they ever would, then kickass. If not, I could understand why. >.o

I can barely relate to any of this, with my location and absense of EB Games and Gamestop, unless Game or Gamestation are related to them or something, but whatever...

Except for the fact I'm certain none of the people who work at the games shops near me know anything about games.

The ONLY 'tournament' I've ever seen the gameshops near me do is when the Taito Legends 2 came out, and the shop Chips (Which is the worst shop for games in my area) did a challenge where you had two tries to get as high a score as possible on one of the games on it. I got second place.

Entering got me a t-shirt and a poster. The winner got a copy of the game, and I so wanted it just for the game they used in the competition. The worst part is AFTER the competition, they left the game on, and I got TWICE the score of the winning person in one life... I hate my ability to get better at games by NOT playing them!

But yeah, that's the only 'tournament' I've ever seen done around here. It's bullshit, I wanna see some proper game tournament!

I guess I will share a good story about EB games. In my area, there was a Halo 2 Tournament, The top 10 people would be on a commercial in my local area, and luclily, I made 5th place. I remember the 1st place winner was a screen name named "Butters", and my halo-die-hard-fan friend was very jealous of him. He always wanted to be the best, and yet I surpassed him in the EB games tournament.

Also, the Tournament would move to Colombus State University, which I made 8th place in. Not bad for a person who does not play the game much. However, at the college, i diddnt do so well, but I had a TON of fun in the process.

EB Games and Gamestop has their fair share of fun tournaments, but it isnt exactly magical as I expect it. Play N Trade kinda has a little more Magic, but could use more improvement.

EDIT- WAIT, BEFORE YOU REPLY.

I ment the EB / Gamestop in My Area, I hope everyone reads this in time.

I was in EBGames once and was getting the Megaman Collection for Xbox. Then the cashier was like "there's gonna be a Megaman X Collection soon too, y'know."

Me: "Yeah, I know, it's going to be sweet."

Cashier: "Yeah."

Then there was a small conversation about Megaman. Just that brief moment made me determined to one day work in a game store.

I also remember this guy coming in to a EBGames to pick up a shirt he won, which had a big ol' Megaman on it. I was so jealous. XD

I am jealous that you have no stories. Good or bad.

I mean, there has to be something you like, or dislike about the store! Even I named them!

I am not exactly sure what they do, so I am not gonna say "Well they said this to me" because like I said, if the people want it, they will get it. Like if people start asking about Deals on Magazine's Vs Trade-in's, more than likely that store is gonna get it as well.

Well, this thread is making me look like I totally hate Gamestop, so I guess I will point out some good things about it. Also note, I dont recall saying that every Gamestop is totally like the same one I went to for awhile, so anyone thinking that, throw it out of your mind. (You too Thex.)

For starters, and I have noted this before, they have some excellent Gamestop Exclusives, I Remember picking up Army of Two (God forbid) and seen how i reserved it, I was able to download Exclusive weapons and maps for the game for free. Which is awesome, and blah blah blah, Metal gear, you guys know that.

Another thing I enjoy is the fact that they will call you and remind you about something you reserved, and save all of the Deals on the Internet E-mail. Which is nice, they are short, simple, and very awesome to boot, like they can see if you owe any money over the phone and answer any questions you have.

Even though their dates are scheduled to change, 70% of the time they get the dates before anyone else does. The other 30% they kinda switch it, or have it wrong compared to what everyone else is thinking.

Trust me, I cought one.

And yeah, I agree that everyone has their own opinions about games, but when it comes to "Smash Brothers having a excellent match making system" versus "Oh god, I keep getting kicked off." it really does not add up, their Salesmenshit (ahem, in my area) are mind blowingly obvious that they are lying.

I couldn't agree more actually...THAT I have noticed...not making an absolute claim here, but that actually does happen in my store. Teehee. People argue that a game sucks, or is good, and I'll hear "Yeah, because GameInformer gave it a *insert rank here*"

It was so funny. I silenced my store today. I was bitching about "Haze" and the customer says to me "What, because GI said it was bad?" and I was like "No. Because I wasted time out of my life playing the shit piece in my 500 dollar system, and I think it sucks. THAT'S why "Haze" sucks."

Though, I have quoted GI myself a few times...but at least when people in my store quote GI, they'll make it clear they read GI and simply agree. But I've seen other nerds working in the stores, using the book as their freaking bible!

Hey...does Play and Trade have any sort of magazine like that? I'm sure they don't use GameInformer, right?

And 40% less if you get things in cash? I actually kinda like that, to be honest with you...from an employee's perspective...it's more of a deterrence than the 20% less than GameStop does...I HATE doing cash trade-ins...it causes sooo many problems.

100% of us are getting ripped off. As far as the buying the wrong games...I guess...but isn't that opinionated? Today I raved on and on about "Uncharted" for the PS3, and one of my customers was like "Wtf, that game sucked."

As far as the being offended...I'm not defending GameStop on that at all, per se...that can happen everywhere. If anything is taken to the corporate office, it will be dealt with accordingly...all of the other bullshit that they get away with...well, that's got to do with the individual running things. Which can happen anywhere. Cuz retail blows. Which is what Play and Trade is. Retail. :p

You should call up Gamestop in Colombus GA (Not at Peachtree Mall) and cuss them out. The people who work there are Dumb-asses.

EB Games is worse, ALOT worse. Its like a Frat club in there. One guy in there is Korean, and he does all the errands, like getting them Frapachino's (sp?), doing the dirty work, and they have some super Lame facts about their games.

I mean I can understand that they strive to do their job, but I know alot of people who can mop the floor with them.

And I too go though shit at My Store, sure it isnt the same, but you try to handle at least 5 people a day screaming at you because the State Law requires all employees selling Alcohol and Tobacco to ask for ID. Did I mention that my worst Fear happend? I had a gun to my head, and was robbed. So really, we all have our past experiences, so really, that arguement isnt reliable.

Its not that I disagree with you or anything Katana, but some people in the Gamestop market are fucking noobs. Take a look at This for example. THis was posted on News For Gamers, which by the way is, in my personal opinion, alot better than Kotaku. Anyways, almost everyone who commented that article all totally agreed, in different parts of the country, and even in my area surprisingly.

Point being, Gamestop really needs to look into their stores more often. 80% of us are getting ripped off, offended, and are buying all the wrong games.

Oooh, how clever! No one ever thought of that before!

Also Thex, Did you not read what I said? Well I am sure you did, but you took what I said the wrong way. I am not a Fanboy, but when someone is being a Fanboy to me, I will be one back. So lay off of me please.

Yah, Chris and I do...and we're all managery, so we're like...Super Sayan 3 GameStop employees.

If you have a problem with the workers, ask for a manager and call corporate. GameStop as a whole, naturally, as many may understand, is a coorporation. Therefore it's split...into MANY different sections. Chris and I, for example, have the same Regional Manager, but our District Managers are different. Our Regional Manager is amazing, and he holds his employees to high standards.

Not saying that we don't goof off at work and stuff, but I've never seen an employee who was a total dick last long in my region. Not that I'm taking offense to your words, per se, Nagis, but...it does get annoying. You have NO idea what I deal with. I have a scar from the last time I was robbed just outside my store. I've had customers sexual harass me...one even had the balls to shove me in the back room. Thank goodness I have employees who look after me there...but I'm damned good at my job, and the decent people, not the shitty people in the area, love my store and have nothing but good things to say about it.

Oh, and they do hire gamers. Everyone in my store is a gamer. Everyone in my store, in one way or another, knows what they're talking about. For instance, I am one of the PS3 "dudes" I know that system better than any at the moment...I know very little of Microsofts stuff. I know enough to sell the stuff, and I've picked up on one or two things about the systems from playing them and over hearing conversation. None of my co-workers are all-knowing about everything out there in gaming, but we're all real gamers and collectively, we know our shit.

I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm not saying that you didn't have shitty experiences. But I pride myself on being damned good at my job. In a lot of ways, it's not just a video game store...I run a multi-million dollar retail shop. Been doing so since I was 19 (This past winter. ) It's much more nervewracking than one may think, especially with this boom in the video game industry. But...again, not saying everyone is wrong in their own experiences, but unless one is omniscient, it's wrong to assume the same for every situation.

And back to my original opinion: Trading games at GS sucks. Play and Trade has it's good points. But due to the fact that there aren't supposed to be Monopolies anymore, without competition from GameStop, Play and Trade would have no reason at all to be as kickass as it is.

over all, Play N Trade is nice, but for the love of god DO NOT TRADE IN GAMES THERE.

A buddy of mine had to trade in a bunch of Sega games that he was saving up. For example: He had no choice but to trade it for cash. They take 40% off of what you would have gotten if you would have stayed with credit, then they ripped him off further. He traded in the ORIGINAL Phantasy Star 3 game, with original box, near mint condition. They gave him $0.40 for it, then turned around and put it on the shelves for $30

If you like buying games there, that's fine, just don't sell anything to them. They'll rip you off and steal your money.

My experiences with Gamestops aren't the greatest, but interestingly, the one in this shitty little town's the best one I've been to. And I mean this one's actually good, not that it's simply the least shitty. But the selection here kinda blows. Unsurprising, given that it's a rather small town.

Honestly, how fucked up is that?

Also, Play N Trade, like I said reaches out to the community. Like if the people want a *Insert Videogame here* tournament, they are going to get it, and win crazy prizes along the way. That right there is how this company is gonna blow the competition out of the water. They can afford to loose so much, but on another hand, they gain Major Profits, and attract more customers in the process.

I mean, I can also go to Gamestop and hear the never ending Rant about the PS3. (I am talking to a Salesperson there.) Yeah, ok, you like it, and I agree, it is a good system. But claiming it to be a "Neat little Blu Ray Player" isnt exactly something to make your Xbox3shitty more big and bad then you claim it is.

No Offense Katana, But I have been to MANY Gamestop places, FLordia, Alabama, Georgia, Washington State, North Carolina, and all of them I have had some bad experiences. I am sure you do your job right and all, but 80% of the people who work there are fucking rude. I Have a million stories.

And too add one more thing, the ONLY reason I Pre-Ordered Metal Gear Solid 4, was because the Limited Edition package is a Gamestop Exclusive. However, one of the workers offered that I would buy it there for only 40 bucks. The only reason why I declined it, was because Play N Trade cant get the Exclusive, as said earlier, it is a Gamestop Exclusive. So I guess that is the ONLY up about Gamestop, they have their exclusives. But guaranteed down the road, Play N Trade will have it as well.

TL;DR. Sick of Gamestop, Shitty workers who don't know what the fuck they are doing, Play N Trade makes profits through tournaments.

I think there's one in the mall here in Philly. Xeios, Cairoi, and I stopped in it before, if its the one I'm thinking of...

That's all fine and good, but what happens when the company beats GameStop? Their glory will fade. :p

Since I'm not clocked in though...I can say this without getting fired. Trading games in at GameStop BLOWS monkey balls...and not in the good way. You get shit for your games.

I was gonna rant a bit about GameStop, but ehh...I'll save it for later...especially since my rant would be heresay...my District Manager is exceptional and he really takes good care of us, so my experiences with the company are great...but yeah...in order for Play and Trade to continue on like this, y'all NEED GameStop to continue sucking.
