Think Blaster Master or the original Metroid, with bouncing balls as your characters. Jokes aside - you basically find more balls with different attributes (heavy ball that can break things. Super bouncy ball that can reach higher levels but is harder to control. etc) to continue through the game. A little bit of backtracking here and there. Topped off with some excellent minigames and great music, it's really fun.
