Shuyin, I think you're just saying that simply because you're scared you'll get owned by some 10 year old kid playing as one of them. It's alright, though. It happens to everybody. Especially in Guitar Hero.

Blargh!

My friend and I have been arguing over this for the past week. I don't agree with this at all. Star Wars doesn't belong in Soul Calibur at all. I mean the Spartan in DOA4 was pushing it, but this is just crazy. Is Indiana Jones going to be in Street Fighter 4?

They need to bring Soul Calibur 4 to Arcades that way they can flesh out the bugs and glitches. SC3 didn't really get beta tested and that's full of glitches.

Yeah, I was thinking it would be a little fun if Vader had his Force Choke in the game and used it to stun the other characters.
Then he could also get angry at the person playing as him for losing more than one fight.

"You have failed me for the last time..." *Vrrrrrr*

If they had weapons, he could.

But alas, his ownage sucks compared to Team Polygon. I would have to agree with you there.

He probably can't beat the polygon team from Smash Bros!

From what I remember of the thread we had for it here, it was me, Shuyin, and Seticus...

That's my complaint.

And for the record ... who even played SC3?

All my friends and I kind of got into SC2, but none of us really even talked about SC3.

Riiiight, they diddnt do it in other games.

And people have complained about it, with infuriating frequency.

On the balance topic, look at Soul Calibur 3. Really, even without guest characters they seem to have difficulty balancing things. If they do what Cyro said, as I fully expect them to, Vader'll probably end up being one of the weakest characters, with Yoda likely being overpowered.

But whatever, we can leave that alone and address the other thing I mentioned - the console exclusives. Can we at least all agree that having characters restricted by console sucks?

What Thexare meant to say in the first post is that the game will obviously sell just becuase it's Soul Calibur, but the fact that it has Star Wars characters in it means that more copies will sell than normal. Most likely, anyway. I myself am not a Soul Calibur fan, but having Vader for the PS3 has gotten me interested enough to maybe consider checking it out.

That's what he was saying earlier.

And guys, they won't make Vader and Yoda gods. I think you all know that they will be equal in terms of strength and speed with all of the other characters. It's common sense. When Jay Leno invites people to come onto his show do any of the guests try to take over it and become the host? No. They are simply his guests. Really, it's the same for SC4 We don't even need to discuss this subject. There's no way they can make the two characters realistic with out making the game too cheap.

However, that's not to say they won't create certain qualities for them. They may make Vader really strong and slow, and have Yoda really fast and weak. Will they have force abilties? I going to say yes. Why wouldn't they? Would Link be as cool in SC2 if he didn't have his bombs arrows or boomerang? Some people may have prefered him to be that. I know I wouldn't like it, and I don't even own a GC.

I'm not defending Thexare, he can do that himself. I only wanted to help clarify some misunderstandings, but I'm sure you all could figure the jumblings out for yourselves. No need to argue.

I want to go back and play that PSX Star Wars fighting game, Shadows of Calastakelacka or something like that. It was a lot like Tekken (wonder if Namco made it? That'd make sense).

Riiiight, they diddnt do it in other games. Why now.

Like every other Star Wars fighting game, Light Sabers diddnt cut limbs off or did the things like in the movies. It might have in other games, But I have a couple of classics, and they diddnt in videogames.

But you go ahead and keep arguing, and go right ahead and try to defend yourself by insulting me then backing yourself up in the process. I really dont care, im not going to act like a 4 year old.

And to quote you, here you are required to play the fucking games. You wont know how cheesy it is until you actually play it.

There, Im done. Im Excited to play this.

My defense is really all that's needed to refute the majority of his post. For further defense, my post retains its full intended meaning if you remove the final line.

But just to humor you, I'll go into further detail. We've got quite a history of arguing, after all, and it'd be such a shame to throw that away.

1. Star Wars does not fit in the Soul Calibur universe at all. Undisputable, as far as I'm concerned. Ok, lightsabers are basically fancy swords, but that brings me to point number 2.

2. It is impossible to give Yoda and Darth Vader appropriate power levels relative to the rest of the cast without drastically weakening them. Either you piss the Star Wars crowd off, or you piss the Soul Calibur crowd off. Or, if you really fuck up, you piss them both off. Give them any Force abilities and you get the same complaints about them that you had about Link in Soul Calibur 2. And has everyone forgotten that lightsabers cut through damn near everything?

In short, add them, subtract a consistent game world.

Edit: Oh, while I'm here, I addressed a related topic with Shaddow in AIM. He did not ask me to post this.

[17:41] Shaddow: I like Xeo.
[17:41] Shaddow: I mean, the idea is dumb to begin with
[17:41] Shaddow: but I FULLY agree
[17:42] Shaddow: that not being allowed to Yoda vs Darth Vader is Lame
[17:42] Cheveyo: oh, yeah
[17:42] Cheveyo: I agree with that too
[17:42] Cheveyo: but I think console-exclusive characters are a retarded concept to begin with
[17:43] Cheveyo: SC2 would've been better off as a game without any of the console exclusives
[17:43] Shaddow: I agree
[17:43] Cheveyo: one of the largest problems with console exclusive characters
[17:43] Cheveyo: [17:42] Shaddow: that not being allowed to Yoda vs Darth Vader is Lame
[17:43] Cheveyo: that.
[17:44] Cheveyo: so if two people happened to have Link and Spawn as their two best characters
[17:44] Cheveyo: they wouldn't be able to fight each other at their best
[17:44] Cheveyo: random example, you get the idea

I did not say that was the only reason it'd sell.

But you made it sound like that. He has a valid point that counteracts what you said. That's more useful than you defending yourself by insulting his point and then defending yourself.
