I'm just glad the strike is over. Perhaps now we can re-mothball American Gladiator and keep it there.

Hayden Panettiere has supposedly confirmed that Heroes is done for the season, but is most likely coming back for the fall season.

Link: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/35569

Tim Kring and Jeph Loeb presented some scenes they had shot of Sylar that were discussed before the strike. I think I posted them in the Heroes thread. They were going to be introducing several new villains.

But one never knows how fickle the entertainment industry can be.

Breaking news: The producers wanna talk!!

Source: http://www.amptp.org/

January 17, 2008

JOINT STATEMENT

The agreement between the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers and the Directors Guild of America establishes an important precedent: Our industry?s creative talent will now participate financially in every emerging area of new media. The agreement demonstrates beyond any doubt that our industry?s producers are willing and able to work with the creators of entertainment content to establish fair and flexible rules for this fast-changing marketplace.

We hope that this agreement with DGA will signal the beginning of the end of this extremely difficult period for our industry. Today, we invite the Writers Guild of America to engage with us in a series of informal discussions similar to the productive process that led us to a deal with the DGA to determine whether there is a reasonable basis for returning to formal bargaining. We look forward to these discussions, and to the day when our entire industry gets back to work.

Until the writer's strike is over, The Daily Show (with Jon Stewart) will be known as A Daily Show (with Jon Stewart).
And the Colbert Report no longer has silent T's.

They want to have their shows back on. They're pretty annoyed with the strike. Jon Stewart on his first show back had a big rant on it. It was pretty good.

Jon is still going well, he doesn't really need writers as much, but Colbert isn't as funny.

So apparently starting this weekend, some of the head honchos of various production companies are going on vacation to a health spa in Arizona while the WGA are pounding the pavement in front of the gates and buildings of studios all around the entertainment world.

Those leaving are the very same producers who walked out on the negotiations with the WGA while the writers were formulating a new deal--all the producers were doing was rejecting the writers' demands while not imputing any constructive deals themselves.

United Hollywood covers the producers' get-away pretty well: http://unitedhollywood.blogspot.com/2008/01/hollywood-suffers-viacom-spas.html

So we're 3 months into the strike, the writers off their Christmas hiatus and back to picketing around Hollywood.

Which reminds me, did anyone hear about the writer getting attacked in front of Fox this week? Apparently since the proverbial lay-off clock for the other studio crew workers has been ticking, someone got out of their SUV at the gate and started shoving this writer (ironically for Law & Order) into the street. He wasn't injured, but the studio guards neglected to even come to help despite strike captains demanding their attention.

It's crazy out there.

Here's the current picket schedule if you're interested: http://www.wga.org/subpage_member.aspx?id=2536

Easy way to meet the people who create the things you love. I was going to hit up NBC/Universal today, but got up late. Maybe I'll go on my birthday.

So this is funny. The Producers' alliance is slowly releasing images to discredit the writers.

Images that also happen to be grammatically-incorrect:

I remember, in middle school, when girls were swooning over him since he was on TRL on MTV. I didn't get it then, I don't get it now. Why does anyone like him at all? He's a talking head with no personality who happened to date starlets before they became what they are now.

I'm wondering when this happened, since I was at NBC that whole day and it's possible that some of the people I was picketing with were in that studio audience.

It's other things like this that appear on the show that somewhat irk me: http://www.nbc.com/Last_Call_with_Carson_Daly/video/#mea=178076

I wasn't there when it happened, but damn is it still funny.

If you've been following some of the news of the strike Carson Daly decided to return to the airwaves sans writers ("Last Call" had writers?!) and sending around e-mails asking for jokes from non-union family and friends to tell on the show, Carson's show was ambushed last night.

Striking Writers Disrupt Carson Daly Taping, Ruining his Talk Show

Having survived a public buggering following the announcement that he'd be the first late-night talkshow host to cross the WGA picket line and the subsequent publication of his hilariously misguided e-mail plea for gag-writing help from non-union friends and family, an embattled? Carson Daly had to know that more sanity-fraying good times were in store for him once he returned to produce new episodes of Last Call without his writing staff. On Tuesday night, a team of striking writers infiltrated Daly's studio audience (an action not sanctioned by the Guild, we're told), briefly ruining his penetrating interrogation of Dancing with Stars also-ran Jerry Rice before security restored order to the Last Call world. A tipster forwarded this firsthand account of last night's shenanigans (there's also an amusing, if headache-inducing, cell-phone recording of the disruption, which we hope to share shortly):

Last night a group of striking writers, including a couple of recognizable names, infiltrated a taping of "Last Call With Carson Daly." The program was wrapping up the final two episodes of the season before going dark for the rest of the year.
During an interview with former NFL great Jerry Rice, a writer pretending to be an audience member heckled Daly, claiming he "needed a writer" to ask better questions. Production assistants and NBC security swooped upon the scribe and escorted him, without resistance, from the building.

A clearly disconcerted Daly asked whether Rice would be willing to start the interview over again, which he did.

After reintroducing Rice to the audience, who replicated their cheers, another incognito writer stood up and loudly declared: "I feel so bad for the striking writers! Can I please leave?" The scribe also pointed out Daly's use of cue cards, plaintively asking who was writing the show now.

NBC security, still expelling the first troublemaker, instantly scrambled back into the studio, then hurriedly ejected three more.

Daly, visibly rattled, appropriately enough had no witty impromptu comments to offer the perplexed audience. Rice was also addled, audibly asking: "What's going on?" A tense Daly responded with a nod, only offering: "I know what this is about."

After that, someone associated with the production took the stage and declared: "Anyone else interrupting the show will be prosecuted." This same person also advised "any other striking writers" in the crowd to "leave now."

Over twenty people scattered throughout the stands rose and dutifully shuffled out. The audience gasped at this. Daly visibly paled.

Ironically, one of this departing group had been awarded a prize moments earlier for being "such a great audience member." The prize was a gift certificate to El Pollo Loco.

Moments later, a traumatized Daly asked Rice whether he'd "mind starting the interview again."

As the production of Last Call shuts down for the holidays, perhaps Daly will finally get a couple of weeks of Yuletide peace; then again, following the unexpected raid on his studio, his vacation may be a tense and paranoid one, where he's too shell-shocked to open his front door and enjoy the singing of some Christmas carolers for fear that some renegade WGA operatives are concealed in their lilting group, ready to torment him with strike chants at his first vulnerable moment.

So, I don't know who this letter went out to, or where it was originally posted, but this letter has been appearing in various places, so I'll post it here too.

?BEST FANS EVER?
POST 1

I just wanted to say on behalf of the Heroes writing staff (occasionally, ?The League of Heroic Scribblers?) how much we sincerely appreciate what all have you have been doing in support of the WGA?s cause. More than that -- we?re touched by the level of dedication, imagination and understanding.

The emails, the posts, the 1000 Cranes (now looking more like 10,000!)... it?s an amazing show of support. And it means more to us than any award or rating.

Each and every one of us would rather be back in that room on the 4th floor, eyes stinging from the dry-erase fumes, arguing about what Peter should do in the 3rd act. It?s what we do -- it?s what we love to do. None of us wanted a strike. But we all know the issues are vital to the survival of the profession. So we?re in this fight until it?s won.

But knowing we?re in that fight with our fans behind us makes all the difference.

All of us at Heroes have said many times how lucky we are to have the fans that we do. That?s never been so evident as it is right now.

So for the time being I?m changing my Heroes sign off from the traditional one the writing staff uses to end every email -- ?BEST SHOW EVER? -- to this:

?BEST FANS EVER?

Michael Green
Writer, HEROES

Incidentally, I mailed in 130 origami cranes last week.

There's more to this than you and me,
lots of folks make our tee-vee!
There's all the folks who got the sack,
let 'em work and come on back.

It's day 18.. I think. 17 or 18.

Anyway, people are putting out more videos like this:

So yeah, Heroes is ending in a couple episodes, as will several other shows.

Looks like things like Deal or No Deal are coming back. Oh well. I don't watch much television these days anyway. More time for reading, I guess.

I've so far folded 110 paper cranes to send in to the producers' guild along with the everyone else's.

Thus far I'm seeing a lot of mixed reactions. When I'd posted the link about the 1000 Cranes for Heroes project on another board, not only did I get people belittling the project, but also posters, without any information posted to back their claims, raving about the writers needing to be kicked in the balls for being so greedy.

Riiiiiight.

If you are a real fan of a show, you'd feel that those who created something you love should receive a more fair share of the profits.

It's a good job I've got many British TV shows to hold me over until Eureka is no longer affected and the third series can come out!

Then again, if the writers at BBC went on strike, so would everybody paying TV Licenses (Which is everyone in Britain who owns a TV), and the BBC would just collapse from lack of funding. They get there money from TV licenses, which is why they don't have any adverts. ^^ A half hour show actually lasts half an hour! :O

But yeah, DAMN IT! WHY DOES EUREKA HAVE TO BE AFFECTED!?!
This is a long thread. Click here to view it.
