... I'm sorry, that is just stupid. I like unique names and all, but only if they are tasteful. 4real and Superman are decidedly not tasteful in any since of the word. They want something cool, try a different spelling of a normal name! It's what my parents did... my name is spelled Crystle Lea instead of Crystal Lee/Leigh. I had a good friend for awhile whose name is Rebekah. Hell, my cousin's name is Bryan! There are ways to have your child's name be special without making them a subject of ridicule for the rest of their lives! |

Ah, but the plot thickens. The parents have now decided that since they can't name their child "4Real" they're naming him Superman.

What ever happened to normal names, like Brian, Amber, Steve, Evan, Lauren, and the like? Why do people insist on getting a few cheap laughs at the inevitable expense of their child?

There are times when the names people give their kids are cool and innovative (while still tasteful), but then there are times when it's simply ridiculous.
Auctioning off the right to name your child on E*Bay would probably not be the way to go. |

Honestly, I think that there is a time in which parents shouldn't be allowed to do that.
But I'm honestly not taking a side here, jsut thinking that parents should care about their children and name then something that won't embarass them. |

Well it should be a parent's right to name their child anything they wanted to, but they should think about the child's future in depth and seriously instead of going with the moment. Yet a lot of parents do it anyways so it's a good thing that these kinds of departments are preventing as much teasing and bullying as possible. -__- I sure know that I would hate to have a name like 4Real or ESPN. Neveah is a nice name though. |

Frank Zappa named his kids Dweezil, Moon Unit, Ahmet, and Diva. Those names I can live with because they aren't expressions, and don't include numbers. On another note, 4Real would be a sweet name because it technically comes before everything alphabetically :p I think this guy will end up changing his mind sometime in his life, or the child will realize that having a good name for a rapper is rather uncouth if he plans on working/socializing and change it..
"what's your name?" "4real" "what? Did you just try to complete my sentence?" "no man! my name is 4real" "well obviously it's not because I haven't heard it yet" |

if they were so amazed by the miracle of life that they wanted to name their child "for real?" they maybe could think of a better way of getting that in, ie: not spelling it like an eleven year old girl on msn messenger.
the nice thing about language is that for any combination of consonants and vowel sounds there are likely more than three different ways of spelling said combination[with the exception of short or single-letter words.. but even then i, eye, ai, aye] they could have just figured out a different way of spelling for real? like forriel, foryelle, foureil or something and everyone would have just thought "wow what a beautiful and creative name, I wonder what part of sri lanka it comes from.." instead they just looked kind of silly... Even then of course, the kid would constantly be getting misspronunciation and "how do you spell that?" and comments about what an interesting name it is. People constantly misspronounce, misspell, comment on, and ask about my name, I hate it, it's amazing how difficult a six letter word can be to pronounce, and its not even that complex or exotic, like siobhan or something, it should be really straight foreward but nooooooooooooooo. but as much as I hate MY name, if my parents had named/tried to name me 4real, I would cut their throats as soon as I was old enough to hold a knife. Not because it has a number in it, more because of the way the number is used to represent a set of letters. Names done in l337, that'd be pretty cool. I think I'll go get my name legally changed to z33r0, somewhere that it's legal.. speaking of which, if you're born in a country where it's legal to use numbers and your parents do, then you try to move somewhere that it isn't, what do they do with you? say someone named their kid adolph hitler[for whatever reason] and that person went to a country where it was not legal to be thusly named? man, people who are named things like hitler must take a lot of shit for it, and it wouldn't even be their fault. shit, why are we letting people like this have children? |
