Well, no one said there aren't variations (Sarah Silverman's version is her telling of the joke as though she were the daughter in the family, ending with the punchline, "Joe Franklin raped me"). That clip was also from the documentary.
Traditionally, though, the joke begins with a man/family/agent going into a talent agency to pitch a family act and it ends with the scout/agent/manager asking what the act is called to which he is answered with: "The Aristocrats!" But again, it's not set it stone. More guideline than anything else. |

It really is called The Aristocrats. Saw it when it first came out.
Pretty much it's a huge inside joke told between comedians. Pretty much the beginning and end are the same, but the middle of the joke is left to interpretation. The whole joke is how much you could improv the middle and how dirty and vulgar you could get it. Example: No one knows exactly where it started, but word has it that comedians from the vaudeville era were telling it to each other. So that's it. It's just a dirty joke told between colleagues when they aren't on stage. |

Yeah, so totally asking this question because its been bugging me.
Well, before I ask, I guess Ill share this story: About 6 years ago, I was at a friend's house, and he was telling me about this movie, where several comedians tell this one dirty joke. But its not the same joke over and over, its how they tell the joke: "The Aristocrats" joke. So what was the movie where several comedians do "The Aristocrats" joke? Well, now its dawning on me. Isnt there a movie like this somewhere? Where can I find it? I found several clips of people telling this joke. And honestly, I want to know the origins (oh yeah, im doing research as we speak on this). |
