Thank you, Carrie and family, for letting us stay at your house in Sacramento on our way up to and down from Washington last month.
Thanks, Damian, for letting us crash in your 100-year-old farmhouse in Long Beach, WA. Granted the shower was crazy, but still, nice to have a place to stay. Thank you, Melinda and Louis, for having us at your wedding. Never would have thought getting married in a vintage trailer park by the beach with a stack of wheels of cheese instead of a wedding cake could be glamorous, but hey. It was a great location for checking out parts of Washington and Oregon I'd never seen before, like Jake the Alligator Man or the Goonies House. Thanks, Rogue Public Alehouse people, for being super cool and inducting us into the Rogue Nation (we have citizenship cards) when we mentioned Brandon's and my getting together while sharing a Rogue Dead Guy Ale. They gave us so many samples and we picked up so many of their bottles of their drinks we can't get anywhere but directly from Rogue. Thank you, Pike Place Market folks, for being open at dawn and being an awesome place to walk around and have a breakfast of piroshkies and coffee from the original Starbucks. Had oyster shooters with the fish-throwing guys. Woo, thanks, thrift shop in Astoria, OR that had a sweater for $2 when I forgot to pack one to go with my dress I was planning to wear to Melinda's wedding. Thank you, Lee, for renting us the Fiat to get around. Not long after getting home from Washington, Bran's car broke down. Would have been a bitch if this happened on our way up. Thanks, Brandon, for letting me do all the routing and letting us take the 395 back down through California so I'd finally get to see Mono Lake. Thank you, Liz and Erik, for having us at your wedding a couple weeks ago. Thanks, all the friends at that wedding, for making it all so fun, and thanks Erik for covering breakfast the next morning for those of us who stayed at the hotel. Thank you, Lee again, for starting the book club with me so we can finally read the kind of books we've been meaning to all along. (Last edited by Rogue on 10-25-14 01:26 PM) |

Every now and then, I re-watch this video. I get all sentimentally gooey watching it.

Miko runs and will be out of sight 'til the guests leave. If I happen to be holding her when Bernie enters the house, she just senses it and claws into me to get away. Miko never claws people, but it's only when Bernie's coming over that she's so desperate to get away.
Tiki will probably be napping somewhere and might eventually come out when she realizes the guests are there for more than an hour or so. She might let them pet her, but mostly she's just interested in hanging out on the roof or in the second story windows. Did you ever want to be a vampire? |

This is Rogue.
I keep getting MySQL errors when I attempt to post. The only way they show up is when I click "Disable Layout;" however, this causes it to appear as if an unnamed invisible person posted. This, in turn, causes the entire thread (ex: "Yup" in General Chat, and perhaps this thread as well) to disappear from the forum, but not the "Last Posts." Help? |

Fact: I have a framed poster of my friend dressed as PSY yelling at a pony's butt over my toilet. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

I'd figured it'd become a movie eventually, but I doubt it'll be as epic as it's supposed to be.
|
I mean, Marvel Studios doesn't have the X-Men (who largely remained neutral during the majority of Civil War), Ant Man and Wasp aren't there, and they need Spider-Man, Daredevil, and the Fantastic Four to complete it. Then again, the comics are supposedly planning a reboot. Thank you so much, Joe Quesada and Axel Alonso, alike. And then we've got the Infinity War to look forward to. Everyone dies, but comes back to life in the end. Woo...

Happy birthday, Nelrith. Hope it's a good one after all the shittiness you've been going through.

Fact: I hate people who complain unceasingly about things they got for free (ex: Halloween candy, what didn't get played at a free concert, food samples, etc). |

Just started our first club book, "The Sirens of Titan." I'm only a few pages in and I'm liking it a lot better than the things I was reading for the other group. |

There have been a few fun history related things lately.
|
Bran and I watched a re-enactment of a Mexican-American War battle, held ON the actual battlefield it occurred in 1846. We'd gone to see it for the first time last year, but the Americans were played by 10-year-old kids. This time it was adult men who shot back. This past weekend, we hung around and had lunch at an orchard made to look like a Colonial New England village. Woo for drinking cider in pewter tankards by candlelight while the band sings shanties. Last night saw my first Marlowe play, "Doctor Faustus." I'd never read or seen any of Kit Marlowe's work before. I knew the story of Faust, but yeah, first time seeing "Faustus." Marlowe, along with Shakespeare, celebrates his 450th birthday this year. Anyone else intrigued by the Marlowe theory of authorship?

If you have a Facebook account, I'm sure you're sick of hearing this... BUT GO VOTE! |
In other news I was almost disenfranchised today at my polling place. I'm pretty pissed, but my vote's in there so they can go fuck themselves.

Originally posted by Elara Apparently two different precincts were using our polling place this year. I walked in and was already abrasively addressed by the lady checking who went to which table. "CAN I HELP YOU?!" "I'm here to vote?" "Oh... OK. Do you have your sample ballot?" "No?" "Why not?" "Because I don't need it to vote?" Anyway, it continued like this until she finally looked up my name and told me to go to the other table with two Indian-American women seated at it. I get over there and the woman looking for my name asks, "What's your district?" "Uh... what do you mean? I don't know my district?" She looks annoyed, and this eventually gets sorted out. I still have no clue what she meant asking that. The only "district" I could think of right away was that we're the 9th circuit district court. The next woman just hands me a ballot and says nothing else to me, so off I go to the closest available voting booth. I'm halfway through voting, just flipping through the pages of judges, when I hear this woman on the other side of the room shouting, "Excuse me. Excuse me! EXCUSE ME!!!" I turn around and there's this African-American woman in the center of the room, glaring at me. "WHERE DID YOU COME FROM?" she demands. I'm confused. She stalks over and goes, "What are you doing here? Did you start already?" "Yes?" "You're not supposed to vote there. Can't you tell you're supposed to be on THAT side? And you started already?" "Yeah... no one told me where to go." "Well, I guess that's it, you're done then." Long pause as she continues to glare at me like I'm a goddamn idiot who had no business being there. Let me re-iterate that I didn't know there were two different precincts using this polling place. My thought on going to different tables was it was a matter of dividing up the last names (A-M, N-Z... you know). All of the booths were along the same wall, looking identical, and there was NO division among them. So by going to the wrong booth, when I wasn't informed where to go, they were about to just deny me my right to vote. Eventually a woman behind her goes, "Well, maybe we can void that ballot and give her a new one." I walk back to the Indian women and surrender the ballot, waiting for a new one, as she's also chastising me for going to the wrong booth. "You didn't tell me where to go." She then sits there and stares at the dots I inked for at least a half a minute like she's trying to decipher how I voted. "Uh.. excuse me?" She finally hands me the blank ballot and I walk over to the correct side, vote and then stand by the machine, waiting for her to instruct me. Thus begins another round of treating me like a feeble-minded buffoon as she tells me to fold it in half (I do, but she then sighs loudly and says, "No, the other way"). She then goes, "Ugggh, you also didn't tear off that one part," referring to the stub, which in previous elections has ALWAYS been torn off by the poll worker. I eventually get to feed my ballot into the box, wait for my sticker and then proceeded to GTFO. It was all particularly obnoxious. I warned Bran and my parents, who still went through bullshit with these people who were there all day, on voting when they got off work. Apparently they still weren't informing people which booths to use. |
