Not that it's any surprise to anyone at this point, but prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

5,000 person protest planned for Hollywood and Vine this weekend.

Yep, this is going to go over well with the LAPD, especially considering Kelly Thomas' beating happened in Orange County. No telling how this will go.

OK, I see Katana. And Xeo finally popped up again. But where's everyone else?

It was a busy week for me, if only in the sense that each day someone had booked me for hang-out time in one form or another.

Yesterday was Brandon's birthday, so we were out doing things. Since dinner fell through with my parents we reserved for this new place tonight, following an early dinner with Brandon's aunt at our usual barbecue joint.

And this weekend is also filled with convention meetings. We get to have the Gally (Gallifrey One -- Doctor Who con) meeting tomorrow after I pick up our boss from LAX. She flies in from England for every con meeting and all of the three conventions this group throws every year.

The dog's expression is priceless.

Random fact: I used to love Kevin Smith and his movies, but now I can't stand the guy.

Hard to pick, actually. I HATED most of the characters in A Merchant of Venice. I mean, Skylock is this Jewish money lender. He loans money to this guy, whose friend runs off with Shylock's daughter along with a lot of Shylock's money. The guy can't pay Shylock back, even when he agreed to give up a pound of flesh.

So what happens? Everyone turns on Shylock, spouting heinously antisemitic things and Shylock is out his money, his daughter, and his culture and community because they decree that he must cease to be a Jew.

It's so fucked up. And the production I saw in San Diego at their Globe got soooo many cheers from the crowd during the courtroom scene.

I still love his older movies (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, etc), but I HATED Cop Out and how he's apparently just become a stoner who shirks his directorial duties on set.

What's more, I've gone to so many of his Q&As (I'm on the Mallrats DVD asking Jason Lee a question), and I've seen most of the DVDs. He used to be very down-to-earth, but he's become very "too cool for school," as it were. Sort of like how I feel about Chris Hardwick, whom I cannot stand at all.

At the same time, with his Comic Book Men show, he's just re-telling the same stories he always has on there, but they're embellished or re-appropriated to be about different people than they were the three or four other times I've heard it.

Eh, I'm just over him. He was a part of my teens and early twenties, and no more.

Random fact: When it comes to the Shakespeare conspiracy theories, I've been leaning more toward being a Marlovian for at least a decade now.

Agreed. There's loads of anachronisms, most especially in their language, which was to be expected with this.

I mean, the trailer starts out saying, "The American West is a terrible place in time," which is a bit too self-aware.

Then there's all the fucks and holy shits (granted "fuck" is said A LOT on "Deadwood," but people still question if it was used in the same context and to the same degree we do in modern times). But he says "someone's gonna be get fucked up," and yeah, that's definitely modern.

It feels very Kung Fu Hustle to me, like I'd said, but people aren't afraid to break with the Blazing Saddles comparison.

I freaking wrote out a response, but it was apparently deleted.

...Or I wrote it out, didn't submit it and it's gone.

Either way it's not here.

Ugh...

The Who con is all kinds of fun, even for a non-Whovian like myself. Lots of drinking, lots of geeks. Lots of guests as well this year. They got a couple of the Doctors and several of the companions for the convention, but being in ConOps, I'm more likely to be on duty during the panels and events.

Seriously, though, the drunkest I ever got in my life was during the last Gallifrey One. Off-duty, of course. I woke up the next morning going, "Whoa. When did I get to bed and when did I remember to change into my pajamas?"

I've been running errands and doing all sorts of grunt work for Gallifrey One this past week, and Gally starts up in a few days.

Will be spending this week, recording my friend's podcast, having one night of gaming and then spending all other waking moments loading and unloading trucks, picking up people from LAX, and working the con.

Looking forward to the nights of hanging around, drinking plum wine out of my tankard and strutting around in a top hat.

I wish the board was a real, secret place I could go and curl up and pretend the rest of the world doesn't exist for a while. I imagine it has lots of books and big, comfy chairs. Maybe it's a gigantic, rustic cabin in the woods.

Yeah, this is my happy place.

You are one incredibly strong woman.

It took a great deal of courage to go through this, let alone share it with us.

I'm so sorry this happened, especially to such a sweet friend.

I wish I could be there to provide hugs, a shoulder, and an ear in person. I don't really know what to say, but we're always here to listen. ALWAYS.

Remember hating assigned reading?

I've actually been looking up a lot of things that I hated being forced to read (which I didn't end up reading anyway and just BS'd my way through assignments on), and realizing a lot of it was great stuff I should have actually put in the time to read when I had the chance. Then again, I don't think I would have appreciated it to such a degree I do now.

Now I just wish I'd saved my honors English book report lists.

Oh man, book reports! I totally want to do them now.

Finally finished The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History.

I had heard about the book last year and put myself on the wait list for a copy at the library. It took freaking 6 months to get it. Three months into the wait, I heard it was going to be a movie (because I'm that freaking oblivious).

Anyway, the book is sort of a real-life Indiana Jones. So yeah, no real action and packed with much more history. What little I've seen of the movie that came out a week or so ago, the characters have completely different names as the actual people and they pumped in many more things than actually happened to members of the MFAA.

Just got a call from my uncle. My grandmother's home called him to say she fell on her head and needs to go to the hospital. He wanted to know if I could go with him to urgent care; I said sure.

He lives in Ontario and is coming to get me. Called at 8, it's now almost 11. Around 9:30 he said he was on his way and just leaving his house. Here's hoping the home is keeping her awake. Sheesh.

He showed up around 11:30, and we got her to the hospital around 1 after making sure she ate at the home before we took her.

Got to urgent care and checked in. While waiting she kept shouting about a "negro" constantly peeing on her floor. Once they saw her in the back, they said to take her to the ER to get a CT scan to make sure she didn't have a brain bleed.

Thus began a ridiculously long wait whilst sitting in a room where it seemed like everyone was manically coughing (uncovered, of course). Anyway, she got in a few hours later, got the scan, and we waited another few hours for them to discharge her when they said it all looked good.

Afterwards got dinner with my parents and went to a strip club with a friend, on her whim.
