So long, 2011. Helllllllllllllooooo, 2012.

Anyway, I stuck to my previous (and ongoing) resolution. I know I tried/saw/went to/ate/learned/touched/read/etc at least 365 new things this year.

I know it's just me filling this out, but you guys can feel free to write in the new things you've seen and tried.

So the rest of my firsts from 2011:

Ugh.. just fuck it.

First off, I reiterate my previous post regarding Kaiser Permanente staff. My mom's back has been messed up for months now, and when she finally got a KP physical therapist to see her, the woman was a total bitch. She pretty much said my mom's back will NEVER get better (despite the doctors saying it could be fixed with physical therapy) and insulted her every step of the way, saying things like she walks like a duck and that she's an idiot who can't take care of herself.

Next...

Fuck whoever broke into my grandmother's house, stole her oven/stove, and ransacked the rest of the rooms, turning over boxes, and trashing the place. The stove was brand new, NEVER USED, since the realtor told us it would be better to buy a new one to appeal to possible buyers.

The mailman discovered the house with the door wide open yesterday, called the realtor, and we didn't find out until today.

I agree. At the same time, who's to say the birth mother can't be just as attached to the girl, if not more so? She carried the daughter, formed a maternal bond, and got all those hormones, endorphins, and oxytocin that went with it.

Good for Tina for pursuing a relationship with her daughter. I mean, how many biological parents have never really been parents to their offspring?

My grandmother's house was broken into AGAIN and more stuff has been taken out.

We got the call that someone was taking furniture out of the house, my dad and boyfriend jumped in their cars (I was putting on my boots, but they'd already left). My dad parked in front of the driveway to block them from getting away and when he opened the driver side door to get at them, they drove off the curb and sped away. My boyfriend, Brandon, followed them and got their license plate while chasing them through the streets 'til they ran a red light to get away from him.

We seriously just went through this YESTERDAY, when we discovered the house left open, the place ransacked, and the brand new stove we bought to help sell the house gone. Two days in a row having to call in the cops and pick up scattered belongings.

Anyway, it was a couple. And the woman was FUCKING PREGNANT.

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON IN THIS WORLD?!

So yeah, bored. And it's the new year. Might as well get this over with.

Feel free to fill it out yourself.

What have you done in 2011 that you have never done before?
- There's a whole thread about this since it's my constant resolution, but I guess the bigger ones are: graduated from university, sailed around the Mediterranean, touched the Pyramids, swam in the Dead Sea, saw King Tut's mask and treasures, saw where many of the Seven Ancient Wonders used to be, was an extra for a few episodes of "The Guild," drank a lot of beer in Germany (flying over the Alps, even), got shot with a netgun, electrocuted by a lycanthropic shock prod, and went to a bunch of other places I hadn't been before.

Did you keep your new years resolution from this year, and will you make one for next year?
- Yep.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
- Michelle! And Sara, Rachel, Karen, and ReBecky are pregnant.

Did anyone close to you die?
- My dad's old friend, Bob.

Where did you travel to in 2011?
- Egypt, Greece, Israel, Turkey, Italy, Germany, San Francisco and San Diego a bunch of times apiece, Las Vegas and Arizona a couple times each, and to see Brandon's dad in Central California. Stopped in New York City during a layover to Athens.

What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
- 2011 was really kind to me, but I guess a job would be nice.

What dates from 2011 will you have etched in your memory, and why?
- Well, obviously the travel days in October and November, but there's also the weekend of May 21-22, we flew up to San Francisco for a festival, flew back, and then I graduated the next day.

There was also the weekend of March 4-6: we drove out to Tucson and did an old west steampunk convention, headed up to Apache Junction for the Renaissance faire, and then spent some time with Brandon's mom.

But there was also April 16, when we went up to see Brandon's dad in Ridgecrest. Found a bedwarmer from the historic Chicken Ranch ("The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas") at a Good Will, then hiked around Fossil Falls, headed up the mountains to see Mount Whitney, and then visited Manzanar, a former Japanese internment camp.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
- Either graduating from university a double major with straight As in my final semesters (from apparently one of the toughest grading schools on the continent) while also doing my internship OR hitting seven years together with my boyfriend OR making jam.

What was your biggest failure?
- Agreeing to do the newsletter for a certain activist group and then realizing they weren't going to pay me, but still allowing the founder to treat me like shit.

Did you suffer injury or illness?
- Nothing more serious than TMJ and my wisdom tooth giving me trouble while I wait for it to grow out so my dentist can pull it.

What was the best thing you bought?
- Hmm. Difficult to say. Probably the antique bedwarmer from the famous whorehouse ($5 at Good Will). But the honorable mentions go to: my pewter tankard, my top hat I got at the Arizona steampunk con, and my antique aviator goggles.

Whose behavior merited celebration?
- Stitch's, probably. I feel blessed knowing this guy.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
- The founder of the activist group I did the newsletter for.

Where did most of your money go?
- Beside the obvious of food and gasoline, probably tickets for things like conventions. I did 11 cons last year.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
- Greece. And everything about it.

What song will always remind you of 2011?
- "Where Blue Meets Black" by the Dread Crew of Oddwood (listened to it a lot while sailing).

Compared to this time last year, you are:
a) Happier or Sadder?
- Eh. Happier, probably. I really need something constructive to do.
b) Thinner or Fatter?
- Fatter.
c) Richer or Poorer?
- Slightly richer.

What do you wish you would have done more of?
- Exercised, I suppose.

What do you wish you would have done less of?
- Been negative and easily angered.

How did you spend New Year's Eve? (December 31, 2010)
- We were in Arizona. Went to check these caverns near Tucson and then walked around Tombstone as it began to snow.

How did you spend New Year's Day? (January 1)
- Still in Arizona. Went up to Sedona and off-roaded to go for a hike to the Palatki and Honanki (ruins of Native American cave dwellings) in a forest of icicles and then watched the Quadrantids meteor shower.

How did you spend Valentine's Day? (February 14)
- Took part in a bananaphone flash mob and then went to dinner with my parents and Brandon.

How did you spend St. Patrick's Day? (March 17)
- Attended a meeting for an Asian-American activist group and then we all went out to dinner in Little Tokyo. Has a "Black and Japan" (Sapporo and Guinness), Irish stew, and wasabi fries. Other people had sushi and the restaurant started blaring Flogging Molly.

How did you spend Easter? (April 24)
- I don't really celebrate that, but Brandon and I did eat ham sandwiches on rosemary focaccia bread at the Griffith Observatory.

How did you spend Cinco de Mayo? (May 5)
- Uh... I was apparently at a steampunk con in San Diego, getting shot with a netgun and then eating hot apple bread pudding in Balboa Park. But uh.. that wasn't in celebration of a Mexico beating France in some conflict.

How did you spend the 4th of July? (July 4)
- Was either at Anime Expo or AM2, that other anime convention that happened that weekend, and then watched fireworks shooting off all over L.A. and Hollywood from the Griffith Observatory.

How did you spend Patriot Day? (September 11)
- *Checks calendar* Apparently eating dinner with my parents.

How did you spend Talk Like a Pirate Day? (September 19)?
- It was my mom's birthday, so we went out to dinner.

How did you spend Halloween? (October 31)
- That was during the cruise around the Mediterranean. Woke up to discover we were staying in Haifa, Israel since the port (Ashdod, Israel) we were supposed to be in that day had been rocket-bombed from the Gaza Strip. That day we drove cross-country and swam/floated in the Dead Sea then visited Masada Fort, and then that night we went to the Halloween party on the ship only to discover everyone was over 50 and only wanted to dance to songs from the '50s and '60s. Brandon and I requested the Time Warp and danced to it alone on the dancefloor.

How did you spend Thanksgiving? (November 24)
- Hectically making food with my parents (first time spending Thanksgiving with my parents in seven years). Then my uncle was an hour late and came by himself, despite saying he would be bringing his wife and stepkids.

How did you spend Christmas? (December 25)
- Hectically cleaning the house and our room since my dad's side of the family was coming (hadn't seen them in like 10 years). Had dinner and actually had some pleasant conversation with them.

Did you fall in love in 2011?
- Not romantically. Been with Brandon for seven years, spent our anniversary checking out a freak show in Venice Beach then going out for drinks. I guess you could say, though, that I fell pretty hard for Clint Eastwood in his spaghetti westerns.

What was your favorite TV show?
- Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire. Mad Men didn't have a season this year. The Big Bang Theory gets an honorable mention.

What was your least favorite show of 2011?
- Two and Half Men.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
- ... WTF. Who asks this kind of question?

What was the best book you read?
- I sadly read no novels this past year, but I did finally read all 10 volumes of Transmetropolitan. Lots of great graphic novels this past year.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
- Hm, probably covers to the Game of Thrones theme.

What did you want and get?
- A trip around the Mediterranean, getting to go to Maker Faire and then graduate the next day. OK, really, getting to go to even half the things we did was beyond lucky and surprising. Oh, and we got cable!!

What did you want and not get?
- Paid for a lot of hard work.

What was your favorite film of this year?
- After going through a list of the movies released last year my answer is: The Conspirator. Wasn't all that impressed with new movies of the last year, although I still wish I could find Anonymous somewhere.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
- Went to the Museum of Death where the proprietors sang the Cerritos Auto Square jingle to me and showed me their two-headed turtle, then went to a ramen place in Little Tokyo for lunch. Watched the sunset from the Observatory, and then went to this English pub for dinner that was recommended by the creators of steampunk after I'd interviewed them.

EDIT: Oh, and I turned 26.

What is one thing that would have made your year more satisfying?
- Man, whoever wrote this seemed dissatisfied with their year. I guess more time in the Mediterranean?

How would you describe your personal fashion concept of 2011?
- Fashion concept? Since we traveled a lot this year, I guess dressing warmly and wearing comfortable shoes was my priority.

What kept you sane?
- Leaving the house.

What celebrity/Public figure did you fancy the most?
- Flynn Rider. Eee!

What political issue stirred you the most?
- I guess the ongoing parade of GOP candidates and their hilarious backfires.

What news story was the most overblown?
- Anything involving Charlie Sheen. Don't fucking care.

Who do you miss?
- Isa! He went back to Malaysia and I didn't even get to say good-bye because we were stuck a shitty costume party with a drunk designated driver who promised he would take us to Isa's party after we "made an appearance" at this other one.

Did you reconnect with anyone?
- UH-HUH! My cousin Cynthia, whom I was never really close with, from my mom's side of the family, and then my dad's side of the family. It was great talking about my aunt's progress in researching our family tree.

Tell us a life lesson you learned in 2011.
- Get a price before starting work on something.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
- "I stay on the run
Let me out
Let me be gone
In the world's beat up road sign
I saw new history of time ...

I traveled the world
Looking for understanding
Of the times that we live in
Hunting and gathering first hand information
Challenging definitions of sin "

What plans do you have for 2012?
- None as of yet. Maybe doing something in Arizona in March. Otherwise, my calendar's completely open. I'll probably be watching my grandmother from time to time.

What are your resolutions for 2012?
- Same as before. Do/learn/try something new every day.

What will you be doing for New Year's Eve?
- Already passed. Went to a friend's pantsless party in full costume, even Brandon wore a kilt. But that was the night before running into NYE. On NYE, just hung out with Stitch and Brandon and then getting dinner.

It's quite likely. They seemed to use the same entry point to break in and just walked out the front door.

My aunt suspects it was the gardener that was hired to tend to the landscaping. She was sending checks to him via a P.O. Box in Long Beach. Not sure who it could be really, really.

The house has been up for sale for months and for all we know it could have been another realtor, someone who was previously shown the house pretending to be a potential buyer, our own realtor, just some people who target houses on the market.

Who knows?

But yeah, a pregnant woman? GUARANTEED she would have had to help lift the heavy things like my grandmother's antique game table. It was mahogany, with a glass top and wood carvings all over it.

Who takes their pregnant wife/girlfiend(?) a-thieving?

So the first week of the new year has come to a close.

My grandmother's house was burglarized twice since New Year's, I reconnected with some friends I hadn't seen in months (nearly a year to the day in the case of one), did an anime convention and a Victorian England re-enactment festival. I have no life.

Seriously, though. A guy and a PREGNANT WOMAN broke into my grandma's house.

OK, so yeah. Fuck whoever broke in AGAIN. Apparently they needed help from their pregnant wife/girlfriend(?).

Well, there's a whole thread about this, but still FUCK THAT SHIT.

Also fuck this photographer at the anime con I was at this weekend who was asking female cosplayers to go to the parking garage with him, presumably because the lighting was better, but that's still FUCKING CREEPY, ASSHOLE!

NOTHING! Nothing at all! My dad is supposed to be the one they'll call when there's any developments and we've heard NOTHING.

My aunt has been frantically calling me every day and keeps spreading the speculation that's been going around the grapevine, but she doesn't know anything new either.

I wouldn't be surprised if when the cops went by the house in Paramount, didn't find them there right then and never went back.

They went through the whole hair thing when they did the live action Death Note movies. They put a blond wig on Tatsuya Fujiwara that looked EXACTLY like Light's hair, and it looked so stupid. So, THANKFULLY, they took it off and just did lighter highlights. While it looked more red, it still captured the idea that Light just has lighter colored hair than most other people.

In the same franchise, they didn't make the girl who played Misa wear a wig or dye her hair at all.

Anyway, yes, good trailer.

I'm so sorry, honey. Unfortunately, it's part of life, but here's hoping your friend finds success in Maine.

I know the feeling of best friends moving away all too well. I mean, Elara's on the east coast now.

Stitch moved up to the Bay Area for a few years before he ended up moving back.

Kittybob left for Colorado, but also came back (HOWEVER, she a couple hours away and I've only seen her twice in the last year. ).

And then there's Junkie. His leaving was completely unannounced. He had told me he figured one of these days he'd go up to visit some WoW friends up near San Francisco and just never come back without telling anyone, and he did it. Frankly, I was a bit upset about it and I still am. And on top of that, he doesn't tell us when he's in town for the weekend or when I'm up in his neck of the woods he's not up for hanging out.

Oh well.

Anyway, I know your pain, Bitmap. And again, I'm sorry.

EDIT: Sorry, Belial. Ya ninja posted me. But HOLY SHIT! I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Oh my god.

Detective came by the house yesterday with some pictures for my dad and Brandon to look at and see if they recognize the man who had burglarized the house.

Good news and bad news.

The good news is, the address that came up for the truck in Paramount is old, so the crime wasn't committed by a resident. It was sold to someone else and the detective was able to get a phone number for the new owner and confirm that the number works. The new owner has a history of trouble with the cops.

Bad news... Dad and Brandon weren't able to pick THAT person out of the line-up and selected different pictures.

Still, there are my grandmother's next door neighbors to question. Not sure how much more will come of this.

The man was an innovator and I greatly enjoy many of the things he created and set into motion.
