Ah, school rants. Here comes one. Fuck the fact that I'm stuck doing a group project with a bunch of chicks who fangirl over each other for being lefties and want our theoretical magazine for this enterprise project to be solely about indie music because that's what they all like. They pretty much just want to do stories that Rolling Stone and Spin have done a billion times, and going, "We could do stories on local bands" is pulling from fucking backyard topics, which doesn't work in the real world since backyard topics are overdone and rarely printed (students tend to pull from their backyard all the time due to inexperience. The topics include: dating and relationships in college, student health, local bands, rising tuition, bad parking, and so on). We were all grouped together based on a questionnaire our teacher gave out the second week of class, asking us about our experience and interests. Since there were only so many people in the class, she said she sort of just stuck people where they needed an extra person. I'm the only geek culture person in the group. I freaking had to define what the phrase "geek culture" meant in the broadest terms possibly, explaining how my interests are all over the place. Fuck the girl who named herself leader who doesn't know how to delegate and get shit done and scoffs when I tell her that, you know, maybe we should figure out what everyone's strengths are and maybe name off who's editor of what. Above all, fuck that the class runs from 7-10 p.m. in the middle of the week and my group just sits there going, "I've been up since like 9 and I had to do a little reading for a class and I'm just too tired to care right now." This last class I had been up since 5 a.m., researching and writing out questions I was going to ask the authors I was interviewing later that day, and then I'm stuck listening to them bitch about wanting to sleep while two of them brag about writing for the school paper. Big fucking deal, ladies. I edited the fucking thing. Writing for it is nothing to brag about since ANYONE can do it. We haven't even gotten the concept of the magazine figured out, and we're supposed to have a name and mission statement figured out now. Whatever... if I'm stuck running the ads section, I really don't freaking care any more. I'll sit there and smile and figure out the CPMs and all that shit that no one else will want to do. It's just a class. It's not like our magazine is seriously going to be published.

Funny thing. A lot of the people who were sticking behind Katy Perry on this, were pulling out the recent "True Blood" parody that "Sesame Street" aired, saying that should be pulled too because the source material wasn't kid-friendly. | Well, it's been almost a year since the last update to this thread.
In that time, I interviewed Nadya's first publicist. And just reported today, Nadya's going to have a rummage sale tomorrow selling autographed bras and underwear. 
SOURCE She keeps getting offers to shoot porn or to pose nude. I'm not sure if she's still pushing for a reality show. I'm pretty sure she's drowning when it comes to taking care of those 14 poor bastards... figuratively speaking.

| We've been watching "Sons of Anarchy." It's a bit weighty in terms of it being serious so much of the time. We're three episodes into the first season.
What I'm actually watching right now is "Home Alone." I haven't watched it in like a decade, and for some reason I just felt like digging it up and watching it. I'll put "Goonies" on next. |

| Since it's one of those situations where the teacher will lecture for an hour or so and then we go into our groups and we can just leave when we feel like we've done enough for the week, my group will pretty much just meet for 15 minutes and then dissipate.
When we were going over concepts a couple weeks ago and they asked me what I was into I mentioned things like comics, Renaissance faires, Rocky Horror, and so on and one of them thought Renaissance faires was funny. When the teacher came by to ask how we were coming along someone mentioned that we were Renaissance women and the professor mistook that as we were doing a mag for Rennies and got all excited about turkey legs and how to make sure you garb is period accurate. Why couldn't the teacher be in my group? 
She's going to be so disappointed when she gets our final project. Since this is a final project and we're working on it all semester, I'm not too worried about them not wanting to get shit done. It's just really annoying that they love to go, "Meh. It'll be about indie music. See you next week." And YES, fuck this heatwave. This is really the only day that the heat's gotten to me. The summer was fairly mild, but yeah, 99 degrees in my room today. No bueno. Fuck that my laptop's screen suddenly quit working.

| Sitting here in the heat reading "Foucault for Beginners" for my American studies theory class. Even though it's supposed to be a graphic novel (more like a book with the occasional crudely drawn portrait of Foucault), it's REALLY weighty.
Need to finish it and put up a post on the forum for that class before noon tomorrow. Still need to re-read "Maus" part 1 before class Tuesday. |
