I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother. I'm glad you're able to take comfort in that she is no longer suffering, though I've no doubt that it still hurts. Losing someone close is a terrible feeling... and I completely relate to the "hole." Best wishes to you and a safe flight to and from California.

Posted on 12-23-11 11:31 PM, in SOPA Link
Here is some more good information, surprisingly from Ashton Kutcher's blog... http://aplusk.posterous.com/87693122

SOPA Is The Problem And Not The Solution.

SOPA Bill is trying to prevent intellectual property piracy which is a legitimate goal, but the way it is going about it will break the Internet and may cause economic calamity.

At its core SOPA unwillingly recruits Internet industry companies like social networks, ISP's and search engines to become policing agents and legally liable for it's users content. Forcing social media sites and ISP's responsible for users content is amazingly burdensome and costly. SOPA will create economic problems for Internet start-ups which will be an additional negative side effect. This may cause a slow down in the Internet economic sector, which is providing real jobs and innovation for the US economy.

DMCA may not be perfect but it does allow for copyrite owners to police it's intellectual property to be removed from web sites by bad actors or zealous fans. Thus removing the legal liability from the search engine or ISP that points to or hosts this content. Yes I understand that this is difficult to manage with overseas web sites, but SOPA as it is written causes more problems then solves.

Moreover, what is most shocking, is SOPA's idea of giving judges determination of Internet DNS. The bill suggests DNS administrators remove bad actor domains on judges orders; thus breaking the fundamentals of the Internet. It is a disastrous precedent to have Congress legislate Internet DNS control.

Placing search engines and ISP's in the middle of policing for piracy is plain and simply a bad and confused attempt by well meaning people that fundamentally don't understand how the the Internet works.

The SOPA bills secondary title is "To promote prosperity, creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation by combating the theft of U.S. property, and for other purposes.", which is interesting because it almost reverses everything it attempts to do by it's methods of enforcement. I don't support SOPA and I believe we all need to call and write our Congress to help them know we want a No vote on SOPA.

My best friend.. Left me forever when I was 18. Her, her mother and stepfather were all murdered and their house burnt to the ground. My childhood best friend... My first friend. Even if we didn't see each other too much, we always had that special connection. We were each others first friend. And we were best friends growing up; connected at the hip.

My current best friend has lived away from me since we graduated high school, so it's hardly difficult. We don't talk as much as we'd like, but when we do, it's easy to just pick up where we left off... and for that I am grateful.

Lastly, and I feel the worst about this, as we're really close and I've grown as an adult with her for several years now, she's known and helped me through a lot, and vice versa. I'm sad that I will be moving away, because I won't see her for quite some time, so I'm trying to spend as much time as I can with her now, because it's all we can do.

Remember, it's not the end, it's the beginning!

Is it bad that I feel like I'm scared to voice my opinion on the internet, especially with things like the Patriot Act too? =/

If you were moving to another country? What would you want to take, something manageable and material (unfortunately I can't take my cat), if you were moving to another country? It doesn't have to be a necessity like clothes or toiletries, and don't say anything like computer or iPod or anything like that, because it's a given, I think.

The reason for this, is that I'm starting to pack (I'm leaving in less than a month!!!), and I feel like the list I've created is missing something. Something essential.

The pressure is on, and I'm super excited about all of this! :D

Shampoo mohawks are awesome. That's really a hard job to have, I totally give you kudos for that.

I've been.... SO ridiculously busy, I can't wait for things to slow down a little bit. Funny how that works; when things are slow you want to be busy, and when you're busy, you want it to go slow.

Currently volunteering my time at Animal Samaritans' vet clinic. The rest of this week and part of next week.... then it's a week and a half until I fly out of the country! Still trying to sell my car; it's been difficult and I need the money. :-/

I do feel bad for my mom though... November my sister got married.. then we had the holidays, my step-brother just passed away unexpectedly, and now there's my sister's baby shower in a couple weeks and I'm leaving. I've been doing my best to spend time with her.

We... don't really know. =/ There were police stationed at his door in the hospital... they did a full autopsy and toxicology report. We're waiting for the results (Usually someone has to request an autopsy- the Sheriff's department required one). He had some mental health issues that were "complex" and he was still being worked with to get everything under control. He had epileptic seizures and psychosomatic (pseudo) seizures. He went to the hospital for seizures... they put him on a ventilator. He contracted pneumonia in the hospital... but they sent him home anyway. Not eight hours later he aspirated (choked), stopped breathing. The EMT's got him breathing again, where he was on a ventilator the rest of the night, and died the next morning. Until we get the reports from the autopsy, we won't know how he died. It was unexpected, to say the least, and we are pretty sure that the hospital he went to is at fault for his death. Negligence kills.

Thanks for all of your condolences, it means a lot.

I told my mom what you said, Rogue, her response was "Well, you have to be strong when you don't have a choice."

Just sold my car and paid my taxes and paid for dorms? Yeah, not nearly as exciting as gaming stuff.

Oh, and I bought my favorite brand of vodka for my going away party.

I'm happy as a clam! I've never studied so much in my life, and it makes me wonder how I ever passed any class, since I've never really studied much before. Hurray for 3.0 GPA with never studying!

I'm in New Zealand! This deserves a line by itself. :)

Lastly, I'm in my first relationship in over a year! Hehehe.. I feel like a giddy twelve year old. <3

Rogue- Despite how frustrated and angry you are with the lack of help, it takes quite a bit of strength to do what you're doing when no one else will. You should take some pride in what you're doing for your grandmother.

Xeo- Sounds like you have an issue that's not a radiator… Or you go to a crappy shop. lol. Have you tried just replacing the cap? It could be worn out/not sealing.

I'm busy… 30 hours of class a week. I've never studied so much in my entire life, not even my intense anatomy and physiology classes. I don't have -time- for a job, let alone a social life. It's kind of a surreal experience. And a first world problem, lol. I've never gone to school and not worked.

I really hate all this about Invisible Children and Kony. A lot of the information presented in their 30 minute video is very much outdated. Kony hasn't even been in the country for the past five years. In turn, Invisible Children is a marketing scheme. You really think that your donation goes to fund help for Uganda? Hah. It lines the founder's pockets for the most part. Only about 30% of the donations goes to the country.

I found this article/blog today. You should read it. Ugandans react with anger to Kony video.

More happiness!!

My "spring break" (which is actually more like an "autumn break"), which lasts over 2 weeks(!), has been planned!! I get to spend Easter with my boyfriend and his family, which I am thrilled about, since I didn't want to be alone on a holiday. A friend from NYC that I met (gamer chick- awesome), and I are taking a scenic train from the bottom of the north island to Auckland, the top of the north island. We're going to spend a few days there, go to the Bay of Islands (if you haven't heard of that, google image search it!). We're also going to Rotorua, which is a HUGE geothermal site, before heading back down to Palmerston North (my uni town).

A few days after we get back, my boyfriend is going to come up and hang out for a couple days before my semester begins again!!

I am so excited, you have no idea!!
