I saw this in the newspaper and I was like, "Holy crap, the bible huggers (No offense to any on the boards) are gonna freak now!"... Then I realized that none of them even read anything ABOUT Harry Potter either. It'll get around to them one of these years. THEN they'll freak.

True enough. I first heard about it in the first part of the year. Everyone was excited about it and I decided to pre-order it at Gamestop, but 2 days later they announced yet another delay and I decided to just wait. Hell, I put 10 dollars down to reserve Advent Children on September 9.... 2 years after that date, it actually came out. I never got a refund for it, either >.<

Anyway, back to Spore. Yeah, I can't wait for it, but I think that the hype will exceed it quite a bit. Whenever a game is pushed back like this, it only turns out crappy.

On the third (mine) there are 2 or 3 other birthdays as well. None of them are active and whoever created them were complete douchebags (alright, I'm not flaming. You'll remember it from last year).

Its spelled "WRITER", not "RIGHTER". You just contradicted yourself in that sentence!

Sorry, I'm just picky about proper spelling/punctuation. Anyways, I'm gonna draw this one, but I am lacking in the scanner department therefore I won't be able to send it... Wish I could, though... I have too many drawings that I would like to put up here to be flamed beyond oblivion.

I learned a lot from Terry Goodkind's "Sword of Truth" series. There is so much truth in these that its not even funny. I have found that they were 100 percent true when I observe others.

Wizard's First Rule:
People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People’s heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool.

Wizard's Second Rule:
The greatest harm can result from the best intentions; It sounds a paradox, but kindness and good intentions can be an insidious path to destruction. Sometimes doing what seems right is wrong, and can cause harm. The only counter to it is knowledge, wisdom, forethought, and understanding the First Rule. Even then, that is not always enough. Violation can cause anything from discomfort, to disaster, to death.

Wizard's Third Rule:
Passion rules reason, for better or for worse; Letting your emotions control your reason may cause trouble for yourself and those around you.

Wizard's Fourth Rule:
There is magic in sincere forgiveness, the magic to heal. In forgiveness you grant, but more so, in forgiveness you receive; Forgiving and being forgiven are powerful elements of healing, not for your body, but your soul. Forgiving others is healthy for you, but being forgiven is even more powerful.

Wizard's Fifth Rule:
Mind what people do, not only what they say, for deeds will betray a lie; People will lie to deceive you from what they truly mean to do. Watching the actions they take will prove their true intentions.

Wizard's Sixth Rule:
The only sovereign you can allow to rule you is reason; The Sixth Rule is the hub upon which all rules turn. It is not only the most important rule, but the simplest. Nonetheless, it is the one most often ignored and violated, and by far the most despised. It must be wielded in spite of the ceaseless, howling protests of the wicked. Misery, iniquity, and utter destruction lurk in the shadows outside its full light, where half-truths snare the faithful disciples, the deeply feeling believers, the selfless followers. Faith and feelings are the warm marrow of evil. Unlike reason, faith and feelings provide no boundary to limit any delusion, any whim. They are a virulent poison, giving the numbing illusion of moral sanction to every depravity ever hatched. Faith and feelings are the darkness to reason’s light. Reason is the very substance of truth itself. The glory that is life is wholly embraced through reason, through this rule. In rejecting it, in rejecting reason, one embraces death.

Wizard's Seventh Rule:
Life is the future, not the past; The past can teach us, through experience, how to accomplish things in the future, comfort us with cherished memories, and provide the foundation of what has already been accomplished. But only the future holds life. To live in the past is to embrace what is dead. To live life to its fullest, each day must be created anew. As rational, thinking beings we must use our intellect, not a blind devotion to what has come before, to make rational choices.

Wizard's Eighth Rule:
Deserve victory; Be justified in your convictions. Be completely committed. Earn what you want and need rather than waiting for others to give you what you desire.

Wizard's Ninth Rule:
A contradiction cannot exist in reality. Not in part, nor in whole; To believe in a contradiction is to abdicate your belief in the existence of the world around you and the nature of the things in it, to instead embrace any random impulse that strikes your fancy--to imagine something is real simply because you wish it were. A thing is what it is, it is itself. There can be no contradictions. In reality, contradictions cannot exist. To believe in them you must abandon the most important thing you possess: your rational mind. The wager for such a bargain is your life. In such an exchange, you always lose what you have at stake.

Wizard's Tenth Rule:
Willfully turning aside from the truth is treason to one's self; People who for whatever reason don't want to see the truth can be acutely hostile to it and shrill in their denunciation of it. They frequently turn their venomous antagonism on whoever dares to point out that truth... To those seeking the truth, it's a matter of simple, rational, self interest to always keep reality in view. Truth is rooted in reality, after all, not the imagination

Okay, this is seriously the best game I've played for the 360. Not only are the visuals just completely stunning, but the characters seem so real! Every character you meet (party member or not) seems to have their own personality and the worlds are so believable that it just blew me away. Also, I'm not that easily impressed, so coming from me, you have to listen!

I'll wrap it up for anybody who's interested.

The gameplay is like if you added first person shooting to KOTOR. You basically travel around, gathering info like in that game, and there's kind of a good/bad system, but it has no apparent effect on the story (not that I know of).

The story is this: 100 years in the future, we're traveling all across the galaxy (that soon? Keep reading!) and have our history with many alien species. Now, the thing that makes all of this happen so quickly is that we found now-extinct Protean technology on Mars when we first successfully colonized it. This jumped our tech ahead by hundreds of years. Also, we're probably the last race that ventured out in to the galaxy, making us untrusted by the other alien races, especially the Turians.

My favorite part about the game is definitely the dialog system. "Dialog system? What are you, nuts??"

No, I'm completely sane, at least on this topic. Yes, the dialog system (ala KOTOR and Jade Empire) lets you choose different responses to different conversations. And yes, your main character speaks!! The nice part about the system is that you can finish your choice before the NPC finishes speaking, resulting in fluid, realistic speech. Also, depending on how you speak (rough and tumble or polite) will affect how NPCs react to you later in the game.

Overall, I give this game a 9.5/10. I absolutely love it.

Anyone else play this remarkable game?

Posted on 11-22-07 05:06 AM, in Who the heck came up with the phrase "Practice makes perfect"? Link
I'm like this with my guitar playing. I feel like I'd play like shit when I pick it back up, but I end up mastering things that I'd have to try and try to do... But I guess its just human psychology. My theory is that when you keep practicing, a break is needed, otherwise you will just keep doing it wrong. For example, say whenever event A happens, you press the B button. You'll keep doing it by habit and keep failing, or win by a fluke. Now say you took a week off of playing it. It won't be muscle memory to hit B at event A. You'll be using your brain instead.

Wow... I just linked music and video games, yet again. Its the same concept of playing a musical scale with ANY instrument. You need to stop to get better. Its not your state of mind, its your muscle memory.

No, its not "if" you get a 360. Its a "when". This game is worth getting the system for (hell, that's why I got mine!).
