Kai Hansen is seriously a name that pops into my head when I hear the question "Who would you say is a Hero to you?" As goofy as it may sound to some, I seriously respect him almost more than any other musician out there, and for many reasons. One, he just looks like a really nice guy, with all the pictures I've seen of him, he's almost always smiling. Two, it's a fact that his head-banging Metal style will never change, even if Power Metal completely died, I know for a fact he'd never give in to mainstream pressure (for proof, listen to Helloween's Walls of Jericho in 1985, and Gamma Ray's Majestic from last year of 2005. The change isn't that drastic at all, it's still heavy metal to the core). He plays real, true Heavy / Power Metal for his fans, and because he just likes it himself. I've read tons upon tons of interviews with him online, and you can just tell he knows what real Metal is. Three, together with Helloween he started the whole Power Metal genre. If they never released Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 1 and 2, Metal would probably be totally different today. Just a few examples, but yeah. Even though hardly anyone in the States really knows him and his work, I think he's played a huge role in the evolution of Metal.

Now, if I could just find his Japanese-Out of Print 'Hansen Worx' solo work, that would rule.

But yeah, if you want to be like me and worship him, get:
- Helloween: Walls of Jericho, Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 1 and 2
- Every Gamma Ray Album
- Iron Savior albums (he helped the band start up, he's no longer with them, but he did help them. And it's interesting that him and Piet who is the leader of Iron Savior, formed Iron Fist which later became known as Helloween back in the early 80's. So, they formed two incredible bands together within 20 years or so).

I'll admit I don't think Kai has the greatest voice in the world (he's still one of my favorite vocalists, but there's a few I like over him), but you can't argue how unique his voice is. There really, is no other band out there that has a singer that sounds anything like him, and I just think that's awesome.

Sorry, that's what happens when you guys talk about Helloween, Gamma Ray, and Kai Hansen. You get me going.

Your just like me when it comes to Hideo Kojima and bands like God Forbid...speaking of them...

If you have some money, buy God Forbid's new albulm...Im must say im insanly amazed by alot of the lyrics....Its like Political Metal...but good nonetheless...

You should listen to them sometime Xeo...I recommend them...and when I get to 4th block today, im gonna have a video by them titled "End of the World"...Damn good song!

Oh Yeah, Demon Hunter...Great band as well...however their new albulm is just like rock-style...I enjoy Summer of Darkness alot better than their other 2 albulms...

Edit: I was making multiple threads on albulms I bought...But this needs to be put up here....

Virgin Black

Holy shit...Im...Still amazed...O.O ;;;

My friend and I were randomly browsing Youtube recently, and found a couple of videos worth posting.

Sonata Arctica: Black Sheep - I'm not huge on Sonata Arctica, but their Silence album just seems incredible, and this video just rocks. It's awesome seeing the guitarist solo, and his facial expressions ... it looks like he isn't even trying. Funny how much the singer resembles Jesus though ... (just had to say that).

Stratovarius: Speed of Light - I haven't heard much of Stratovarius, honestly. But for some reason I think I'm going to really like them once I buy some of their albums (I plan to get Visions soon). The few songs I have from Destiny I don't really care for, but everything else I've heard from this band at friends houses, and with these videos and everything I just love it. They've been around for about as long as Gamma Ray also.

Fun fact: I'm listening to Black Sheep at the moment I'm writing this post.

And I own 2 Sonata Arctica albums and while some songs aren't that good, some of them are awesome. (not to mention that Jani Liimatainen has an awesome looking Explorer Guitar)

AS for Stratovarius, just get Elements Pt. I

It's weird because Elements has gotten bad reviews, but my friend has all of their albums (downloaded ...), and when we listened to a few songs they didn't seem that bad at all.

I mean not as awesome as "The Speed of Light" or anything, but nothing bad.

We also checked out their first album, kind of like Helloween's first ablum, it seemed more thrash than anything else, but I still really liked it.

So yeah, I'm afraid Stratovarius might be one of those bands that'll make me want to buy all of their albums.

But yeah, as for Sonata, they do seem to have some decent songs here and there, and then some incredible ones like you said. I have both Ecliptica and Silence burned, and do plan to buy them eventually.

I still haven't listened their third album yet (I downloaded Ecliptica, and own both Silence and Reckoning Night (which has the most awesome booklet/cd case ever)).

They're also making a game, which doesn't seem half bad.

And I still don't have any Stratovarius album (only band that I like alot and don't have any albums bought). Damn so little money, so much to buy.

I got Stratovarious: Visions. It's good. Basically an album with the theme of "Save nature". That, and a couple Symphony X (Odyssey, Damnation Game) are about the only I've boughten of bands I have now started to just love. Damn my stores for not holding anything good.

I hope to get more musical junk over the summer.

You fucking just went past level 99. FREAKINGAWESOME!

But yeah, if you like Skelatons in the Closet (and I can agree, the box art is extremely awesome, but the booklet in Blast From the Past is cooler in my opinion), then you'd easily love Alive '95.

And you suck because you have pwned me like Goku eats food.

Alright, I'm really getting into 80's-90's Metal at the moment. I've bought both Skid Row's first two albums, and I love them to death. They just seem a little different than most Glam Metal at the time, they seem a little more serious, and like they have a sharper edge to their works ... I don't know, it's hard to explain but yeah.

Also, my dad's shown me a handful of songs that he listened to back in the day, since he's a musician also. He's always only played Christian Rock stuff ever since I've known him, but 18 years ago he was into the stuff I like now.

One band he showed me was Dokken. I have to say, I really like them a lot. Don Dokken (vocals) singing really reminds me of Hammerfall, and I'd have to say it seems like Hammerfall was somewhat influenced by them. George Lynch's solo's in the band are marvelous. And like Skid Row, they seem a little more 'serious' than most Big Hair / Glam stuff at that time. And according to the booklet with the album I got, they usually toured with Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden. So, it's obvious their solo's and whatnot give off a more technical and heavier sound to them, than other bands at that time.

Here's a few songs from the Very Best of Dokken album that I bought a few days ago:
Breaking the Chains - Awesome song, and catchy riffs, and the vocals are just extremely smooth.
Paris is Burning (Live in Europe, 1982) - The solo intro is awesome, and this song REALLY sounds like something Hammerfall would have made. Even though it's live, the quality is still great.
Tooth and Nail - Just a really great song, and you can hear double bass drumming!

My dad also showed me a band called Stryper, their sound was similar to Dokken's, and then my dad said "And they're Christian". I seriously have never heard a Big Hair / Glam Christian Metal band until then, and they seemed awesome.

He also showed me some of Savotoge, and they seemed -very- good. A little heavier, like Iron Maiden.

Also along the bands he showed me was Accept, whom I've heard of since I've somehow seen them mentioned along Power Metal talk somewhere ... but man, I couldn't stand the guys vocals at all. They were so raspy, it was like he was brushing his teeth and gurgling while he sang.

Finally, after I showed my dad Gamma Ray, Hammerfall, and a few others he said "You'd probably love Yngwie J. Malmsteen". So he showed me a few songs from his Rising Force album, and I was pretty blown away. I definitely plan on getting some of his stuff soon.

@DarkSlaya: Yeah you need Queensryche's first album. It's still my favorite!
Their first four songs were just incredible.

Damn.

I need to find a way to bring my guitar and get it autographied by the whole band.

It would be so much awesome.

(playing with that guitar would be out of question, but hey...)

I just want to own a guitar like Kai Hansen's (not the white Flying V he used with Helloween, his Pink Gamma Ray one).

It's just awesome ... Flying V's are decent, but as people say they are a bit goofy and overated. But Kai Hansen's, is like a checkmark or something, not really a full V.

As seen the previous page:

Oh my god.

Yngwie fucking Malmsteen.

I bought his debut solo album 'Rising Force', and The Yngwie Malmsteen Collection. Simply put I liked his stuff so much, I went back to Best Buy the next day and then bought 'Marching Out', 'Trilogy', and 'Odyssey'.

If you enjoy about anything I've posted in this thread so far, I'm sure you guys would love Malmsteen. I can't get it out of my head that he seems like a past 80's incarnation of Symphony X. He has probably been a big influence to a ton of Neoclassical / Symphonic bands out there, and even probably has inspired tons of Power Metal stuff out there because of the genre's being closely linked.

Anyways, here's some songs:
Queen in Love - [Trilogy]
Heaven Tonight - [Odyssey] My friend kept saying this sounds like a Journey song.
Deja Vu - [Odyssey]

And here's a great site I found that has a lot of guitar works from neoclassical musicians. Yngwie, Micheal Romeo (Symphony X), Jason Becker, and a few others.

And I also got ManOWar's Triumph of Steel. I honestly didn't like Hail to England, but this album is absolutely incredible. The first track is 20+ minutes, and is easily on par with Symphony X's The Odyssey if you want to match up against other very long songs. It's a little more dramatic, and changes drastically at times, and there's a lot of solo's from guitars to drums (incredible), but it's so good.

I'd upload it ... but yeah, 20+ minutes = huge file.

Goatwhore
The site dosent say much, but lets just say I enjoy them...alot

Fear Factory
I bought Fear Factory's New Albulm: "Transgression"...Extremely great...now if only I can only get my hands on the forgotten albulm where you cant understand a single word the vocalists are saying...they even dont have any lyrics for them...and it was awesome!

Zug Island

I heard them because they did alot of songs with Insane Clown Possee...They left the company and started doing Metal...In which, sounds a hella lot better than what they were doing...

I actually hear people who've apparently seen him in concert say he gets a little boring. He doesn't pull out a lot of creative stuff, like Stevei Vai and others can. But they say his speed is unmatchable.

Either way I could careless, I love arpeggios.

And by the way Master Sajin, the name Goatwhore makes me think of Goblin Cock. Just some random band my friend showed me once.
