Oh I definitely intend to, but not until the show ends or gets canceled. It's not an aversion to reading or anything, it's just that I started with the show and I've been enjoying being surprised while watching it.

Spoiler:
Even though I hated when Ned got killed off, I was really amazed with the turn of events and loved that I didn't see it coming. I think, like most people, I'd come to think he'd eventually be saved.

I just don't want to lose that element of surprise while watching it.

Spoiler:
A different friend, who's been slightly better about not letting things out, started telling me about how Jon Snow's going to have the most fucked-up love life. She didn't divulge any details, thankfully.

Anyway...

I'm still amused. I can remember the most inane characters' names and details, but I can never remember the name of the large guy who's friends with Jon Snow (who off and on reminds me of Tom).

We're only two episodes into the new season here's what I think of the characters thus far:

Ones I LOVE:
Arya Stark
Tyrion Lannister
Gendry
Robb Stark
The direwolves
Yoren (after this episode and the last two of season 1, I love this guy)

Ones I like:
Jon Snow (he's teetering on love and like, but right now he's more in the "like" category)
Bronn
Bran Stark
Bran's wildling woman
The Hound
That guy who works for Stannis (I just tried looking up his name and stumbled into some Stannis spoilers. GAAAHH!) EDIT: Davos Seaworth

Ones I feel neutral about (these volley back and forth like and dislike and are right now just sitting in the middle for me):
Catelyn Stark
Petyr Baelish
Theon Greyjoy (he's off and on on the like list despite my suspicions)
Jorah Mormont
Jaime Lannister
Sansa Stark (she's moved up from dislike)
Ros
Rickon (haven't seen him enough to form an opinion)
Tywin Lannister (haven't seen him this season at all yet)

Ones I dislike:
Daenerys Targaryan (I really don't know why I dislike her so)
Tyrion's whore
Stannis Baratheon
Melisandre (sp?)
Renly Baratheon (haven't even seen him yet)
Varys
Grand Maester Pycelle

Ones I HATE:
Joffrey
Cersei
Lysa Arryn (haven't seen her this season, but I still hate her guts)
Craster

Can't think of anyone else or their placement off the top of my head. These are just the ones I can place right away when they come to mind.

Well, you can at least read the first book since that has all been covered.

I actually like the way that they are portraying Varys. I think he is the best neutral character ever. I think he will grow on you later.

And Jon's friend is Samwell Tarley. I love him, he'd probably be my best friend if he were real, lol.

Osha is the wildling woman with Bran. They actually had to change the name of Theon's sister for the show from Asha to Yara so people wouldn't confuse the names. and Shae is the whore's name (there are spoilers down the line for her, so I don't want you to look up the name and find them)

I am waiting for Brienne of Tarth to make her appearance.

And yes, Davos is awesome.

Spoiler:
I've had my suspicions of Shae from the beginning. I mean, not only did she not sit well with me the moment they introduced her, but she didn't want to play Tyrion's drinking game and then Tywin kept saying to not bring her with him to King's Landing.

Varys is one who volleys back and forth on the like/dislike list. I was actually kind of liking The Spider when I was re-watching the season, but then again I can't help but have a love/hate feeling toward Baelish. I just listed them as I've been feeling about them so far this season.

I didn't list the Greyjoys, outside of Theon, because I haven't seen them enough, although for some reason I can't help but like Yara at the moment. What a poker face on that woman.

Cersei... I love to hate her, but she has these human moments that make me feel sorry for her. At the same time, I've grown to like Jaime Lannister for some reason. He used to be thrown onto my hate list, but then I realized I was sort of generalizing him with Cersei and Joffrey and aside from the first episode, he wasn't so awful.

As for Brienne of Tarth, yeah, I keep seeing people posting this picture around saying she's this awesome, strong woman from fantasy and I've been DYING to see her without being exposed to their spoilers.

EDIT: Spoiler tags added to that first paragraph since it could probably be deemed spoilerish.

<3 the picture. When they first cast her in the role of Brienne I was like "but she's too pretty"... but they did a great job of making her look like the supposed "plain Jane" that Brienne is.

And yeah, Jaime is another one of those characters that grows on you. Unlike Joffrey... little bastard. Ha! Literally!

This entire post shall be with the spoiler tags, just because.

Spoiler:
Well, Yoren's dead. But he died like a fucking boss.

Figures about Theon. I'd been waiting for him to betray Robb since day 1, but at the same time are we entirely sure that he's completely siding with his father against the Starks?

As for Renly, Loras, and Renly's beard. Heh, yeah, I actually got irritated when Loras' sister got naked so damn quickly. And these dresses she's wearing...

Notice that they save the Arya part of the story til the very end? And why are Bran's sections so short?

Also... I love Tyrion.

Spoiler:
Yes, like a boss!

Theon... yeah... he's chapters in the books got really fun after this because of the internal conflict.

Since all of the Renly/Loras stuff was never blatant in the books (I never put it together until I saw the show), I think it is interesting to see how they are doing this. And yeah, even Shae has a classier looking dress than Margery, and she's a whore... what does that say about Renly's queen?

Yep, gotta agree with that. *sigh* Is it wrong that my first through was "fiance needs to take up blacksmithing"??

I am hearing a lot of buzz about last episode, but I haven't watched it yet so I can't really comment about it yet.

So, for the most part, I only saw one controversial thing (see spoiler)... and I really wish that we could hear Dany's inner monologue like in the books.

Spoiler:
The biggest bitching I hear is about Jaquen worshiping the Red God because of stuff revealed later that seem to contradict it, but I went back and actually looked at that chapter in the book and they did it right, he does say it.

It may sound weird, but I don't think I ever disliked Tywin Lannister. I find myself loving him for some reason. I mean, when Joffrey refers to him as being stupid, I don't know why, but I really want to punch the shit out of him for his disrespect toward his grandfather who OWNS the throne financially at this point since they keep having to borrow money from him.

So that's Tyrion and Tywin, and I'm cool with Jaime (in a sense, he has his humanizing moments - as does Cersei, but that doesn't mean I like her).

Wow. Do I actually like the majority of the Lannisters? Is that possible?

Anyway, I picked up the Hedge Knight graphic novel that's supposedly a prequel to A Game of Thrones. I'm still embroiled in Catching Fire, which I'm almost done with, so I'll probably get absorbed in that soon enough.

I love The Hedge Knight! It's a neat little story set earlier in the time period, I think you will like it.

And yeah... Tywin... yeah... keep watching.

Lancel is still a twat.

Oh definitely.

So I've been madly watching these videos on the history of Westeros. LINK!!

So much information to devour and yet somehow it all goes into my head and sticks (unlike episodes of Mad Men where you can easily forget all the shit that happens since something big will occur and then the next episode they all pretend it didn't happen), and it's all so fascinating that ONE man came up with all this.

Ok, so several things in the last episode that I had a problem with and I am really wondering why they decided to do them.

Spoiler:
First, there are two characters missing--the Reed children were supposed to be at Winterfell when Theon shows up. I'm hoping they turn up later since they are rather important. Second, Jon's leaving did not happen that way, and the actual way would have been just as dramatic. Third... the last scenes with Dany... the end thing that happened there? Yeah, didn't happen.

I was rather impressed with them not showing the Osha/Theon sex scene though. Never gonna be able to look at her in the Harry Potter films the same way again, lol.

Honestly I'm confused about that last scene altogether.

Spoiler:
Osha slept with Theon because...? I'm going to assume to distract him. But why couldn't she just go about slitting throats and then sneak the little caravan of kids and direwolves out.

Is anyone that would be worried about spoilers even reading this? Well, I guess it's only common courtesy to continue using the tags.

Anyway, I was amused all three boys had women trouble this episode.

Which reminds me. Fuck Wikipedia for not being more spoiler-free when it comes to basic pages about the episodes.

Spoiler:
I was just trying to see if I could find a brief synopsis for the latest one because I couldn't remember if Maester Luwin escaped with Bran, Rickon, Osha, and Hodor and the article, right off the bat mentioned Ygritte and Talisa being love interests for Jon and Robb respectively.

Now, granted, it's pretty obvious it was going to go down that path for both of them, but FUUUUUUUUUUCK.

Seriously, I laughed so fucking hard when the Arya scenes concluded. The look on Tywin's face.

Oh yeah, that was epic. See, I can get over Tywin being at Harrenhal in the series and not the books just because of how amusing it is.

Spoiler:
I don't believe Osha sleeps with him at all in the books, actually. I can't remember if Luwin does or not. Talisa doesn't even exist in the books. That is what annoys me.

I've heard that about Talisa, but the people I'm reading that from are starting to go, "I almost wish I hadn't read the books because I'm getting so frustrated with what they're putting in and taking out and I'd rather just watch it now."

Example: Link (if it prompts you for a password it's cf4l).

When I was staying with some friends of Lee's up in the Bay Area we kept having lively talks about GoT. They'd read the books and were trying to not spoil things for me, but they mentioned the Daenerys scenes in Clash of Kings are pretty much her in the Red Waste for most of the book and they're boring as hell. I guess what's been added to the Qarth scenes was to spice up Daeny's story for the season finale?

Anyway, I'm REALLY having trouble liking Daeny right now. I don't know why. Somewhere between the seasons I just started outright hating her. And it doesn't help that she's going around yelling at people to give her things because she has a name. I mean, she was born AFTER Robert took the Iron Throne. She's never seen it and probably doesn't remember much of Westeros. And yet, now she's determined to have it back.

Seriously, last season when the Dothraki were heading toward Vaes Dothrak and she goes, "Tell everyone to stop 'til I say so" and Jorah goes, "Now you're sounding like a Khaleesi," I went, "HUH?" He just keeps coaching her to demand things.

It just made me think of that Louis CK bit about his daughter being an asshole because they couldn't leave anywhere until she put her shoes on.

I mean, there was a point when I loved her. I really did. Mostly out of hatred for Viserys, like my hating him boosted her. I get that she's supposed to be young, and is therefore a bit impulsive, but she's just REALLY hard for me to like at the moment. I'm seriously liking Sansa, Petyr Baelish, Tywin Lannister, and Hodor more than I like her and I don't think that was GRRM's intention.

Yeah, I know what you mean... it's like they just have her running around going yelling "Fire and Blood? Fire and Blood! No? Drat!"

She is a much more likeable character in the books, maybe because there her Khalissar is still much bigger and she is worrying more about how to care for them and reclaim Westeros. Lots of moral quandaries.

Good episode this week, although the ending was weak (only because I know it's just a gambit).

I can't explain why, but I really like Ygritte.

Pretty decent episode for Cersei and Jaime in terms of character development.

Also, I love that the Hound seems to love Sansa.
