2. ACT: Advanced Character Training

Not too long after you set out on your journey you finally reach your destination: The great and beautiful kingdom in which the grand and famous Supreme Trainer resides- Avalus, a medieval kingdom with futuristic assets. You walk through the people-filled streets and admire the liveliness of the place. Odd-shaped hover-carriages glide just a couple above the ground and pass you with a constant, noisy hum. Someone offers you a ride to see the trainer and you gladly accept. Upon arriving at the gates of the Grand Palace you are escorted to the royal training center where the trainer awaits. A few other people are there as well, sparring with each other in the background. The trainer, older, but strong looking, walks up and welcomes you, then suggests to get started.

"Well, young warrior, we have much to do. In order for you to survive out in the world as a fighter you must learn just how to do it. That is what I am going to help you with today. You will learn just about everything there is to know on how to fight. You will go through 9 lessons during this session, of which some will be together. Now, let's waste no time. The first subject will be attacking and magic usage. Everybody should know how to do these, yes, but it is good to review even the basics.

Your basic attack is nothing more than trying to hit your opponent. You describe what you are doing and what the attack will do, but not so that you control if he gets hit. Magic is the same way. You use a spell and say what it does. I will not go further into this because you should already know this. So, what I want for you to do is to attack me physically, and then if you use magic, cast a spell at me.

*Jade nods as she draws her greatsword*

"Okay, I shall do my best."

*Jade griped the sword in both hands and swung in a horizontal slash at the trainer, the black flames of the blade flaring outwards. Following through on the swing, Jade took her right hand off the sword and brought it up with the palm facing the trainer*

"Black Lightning!"

*A globe of crackling black lighting shoots forth from her hand, heading for the trainer's chest*

You double attack strike the Supreme Trainer, him putting up no defenses. Although he does not go down, your attacks did seem to cause some damage. Suddenly there is an aura that covers his face for a moment and then disappears. He has been healed and acts as if nothing has happened

"Good attack, Jade. Next I'll will tell you about spell charging. In this realm, the casting of high level magic spells requires you to gather enough energy for it. A level one or two spell does not need a great amount, therefore you are able to use them instantly. Anything beyond a level two spell has to be "charged". The amount of time needed is called a "post". One post of charging is needed for a level three spell. Two posts are needed for level 4, and the amount of posts required keeps raising by one for each level you want to use. Be careful about when you want use a high level spell, for you cannot attack or defend while doing so, making yourself vulnerable. However, setting up a defense beforehand is a strategy you can use. Now, I want you to use a post charge a spell and then cast it on me during the next one. If you do not use magic, then you can simply use one of your skills. If you have no high level skill either then we will simply proceed with the next lesson.

*Jade nods as she rests the tip of her sword on the ground, holding the hilt firmly in one hand as her head tilts downward and she begins to mutter words in Elven, almost chanting*

"Helkahuine tena amin, tula a' amin, pelekta gothamin." (Icy darkness hear me, come to me, strike my foe.)

*A dark crackling energy begins to form around Jade as the temperature starts to drop as she continues to chant*

The air surrounding the Supreme Trainer starts getting colder. Moisture from his breath could barely be seen.

"Very good Jade. You can go ahead and realease the spell now if you choose. Or you continue to charge to see how powerful your magic will grow. However, I must ask that you stop after the 6th charge so we can continue your training."

"Chaos Shard sii' auta!" (Chaos Shard go now!)

*The black energy around Jade began to crystalize in the freezing temperature, forming shards of black ice 3 inches long and half that as wide. The shards crackle with negative energy around them as they seemingly explode from around her body, a number of them flying straight towards the trainer*

Chaos Shard- Combination of Purple Ice, Enervation Blast, and Darkness attacks. Jade stands still as a blast fires off from her, shooting razor sharp shards of black ice in all directions freezing anything it touches in a 90ft radius.

The crystals strick the Supreme Trainer and begin to freeze body from the inside. He didn't seem to make any attempt to defend himself or try to escape the power of your magic. Instead, he stood still. After a few moments the ice suddenly begins to disappear when an aura emits from his body. Soon he is able to walk again normally.

"Excellent job, Jade." he says. "You know how to use your magic well. Now then, we shall move on to the next lesson, a simple, but very strong skill that is uniqe to this realm. It's called a 'Smash Hit'. A Smash Hit is a very strong physical blow to your opponent. All you need to do is focus your strength to your weapon and strike. The blow will send your target flying back with a great amount of damage inflicted, and even has the possibility of sending the opponent out of the area. The Smash Hit, although powerful, is controlled by a randomizor, something that exists in another realm. This means that on a scale of 1 to 100% accuracy, the higher the accuracy is the more power and damage it will produce. In order for a Smash Hit to connect, it must have an accuracy of 25% or greater. Any less than that and you will miss. However, should you achieve a hit with 95% or higher then your opponent will most likely be knocked out of the area, imitating and "instant kill". One special thing to note is that with good aim and strategy, you can can knock a foe into other enemies and cause indirect damage. Do this with 95% or greater accuracy and may also knock those opponts out of the area as well. A versatile attack the Smash Hit is. All you have to do is perform the attack and let the randomizor decide the fate of it. Now that you know how to do a Smash Hit, I want you to do it to me. If you miss then you will do it over again."

The Supreme Trainer stands ready to receive a blow. He is confident that you will successfully hit him on your first try.

*Jade nodded, intrigued by this new form of attack. She lifted the sword again, pausing for a moment to channel her strength into it, which caused the black flame that radiated from it to flare out and turn a deep purple*

"Here we go...."

*Jade swung the obsidian-like blade in a diagonal-upward slash aimed at the instructor's right side*

Your sword hits the Supreme Trainer with and astounding 91% strength.
"Pwaah!"
The blow sends off the ground and all the way to the other side of the courtyard where he hits the wall before landing hard on the ground. Moments later, he pulls himself up to stand. He is seen holding his side, leaning over. He removes one of his hands to use a healing spell which lights up his wound. Afterward he uses a teleporation manuever to position himself in the previous area before he was struck.

"Excellent stirke, Jade," he exclaims. "That was a great Smash Hit. It must have hit me with a strength close to maximum. Very good. So, do you understand how the Smash Hit works now? You simply do the attack, and the randomizer will determine the outcome. In this next lesson, You will learn about strategy and being fair."

The Supreme Trainer paces for a moment while beginning his explanation or the teaching.

"You may already have good strategy to your attacks, but nonetheless, it never hurts to review them. If you don't, then this will help you think and use them more during your future battles. Most people, when they fight, use the overly common hack-and-slash method and take turns trading blow. Essentially, this is the core of fighting. But, there is an old workplace saying that can be applied to battles- 'Work smarter, not harder'. This means think of something smart to do so you don't have to strain yourself or risk your life as much just to defeat an enemy. To do this you can use strategy. For instance, if there are many foes standing before you, but they are in a straight line behind each other, what are you going to do? You could take them on all at once or one by one, OR, if you are able to fire a piercing projectile you could take them all out in one fell swoop. Look for opportunities to make things easier for you. They WILL present themselves in just about every battle. You simply have to make notice of them. The same applies to avoiding an attack. What do you have in your arsental of attacks or spells that you could use to avoid becoming injured? Remember, an attack spell doesn't have to be used for an attack, but can be used for escape. Now, I am going to give you two scenarios. One is for attacking, while the other is for dodging.

For the first scenario, you are in an ice cave. You stand on one ledge above a chasm with an emeny stands on one on the other side. Your attacks are unable to reach, and you're not able to use magic. However, on the ceiling above, a large, very hard, yet light-weight icicle has become loose and is dropping to a position right infront of you. What can you do with it?

For the other scenario, several arrows are flying your way after being shot. You are in an open field, but running would take too long, and creating a barrier would prove to be ineffective. What can you do to avoid the arrows? If you can not do anything within your power, do not be afraid to get hit.

"Hmn... well, that would have to be a rather large carvern to keep me from getting across on my own" *Shifts her wings with a smile* "But I'd say that if possible I would use the icicle to get across by jumping on to it and then the rest of the way across to attack, or I would use my wind attack to blow it over so it would drop on my enemy."

*she pauses for a moment and thinks about the second one*

"Well, there is obviously the tactic of tumbling forward so that I would be below the arrow's trajectory and no longer where I was when they fired at me. Then again I could always use my wings to fly above them... or there is the wind attack again to knock them aside."

*Jade waits to see how well she fared... strategy was not a barbarian's specialty after all*

"Yes," complimented the Supreme Trainer. "Those are very good answers. Knocking the icicle over to the other side to hit the enemy is exactly what I would do. Although using your flying ability would greatly help also. And for the second example using what abilities you have to avoid or knock the arrows away is always an excellent idea. So you see, you don't always have to make a direct attack or dodge for every situation. Make the most out of your battle and you shall see that it can be more than just fighting. You are doing well today, Jade. There are only 3 more lessons for me to teach you."

The wind blows softly through the air as you await his instructions.

"This lesson is comprised to two- strenghts and weakness, and personality. First is strengths and weakness. Everybody has them both. Even the gods above us have them both. No living thing is invunerable to everything, and that is why we have strategies for fighting. Speaking of which strategy can be tied in with this lesson. Everybody likes to show off their strengths, but not their weakness. It's not something you'd like to do while participating in a battle. Some people have no methods of defending against an attack on their weakness. Thus "cheating" ensues. I implore not to cheat during a battle. It does not looks good, and nobody likes it. It is something you have to deal with on a fair basis. You must find a way to overcome your faults by utilizing your other skills. Let your strengths defend your weaknesses. I'll even let you in on a little secret: if you can, let your weakness be a lure for a trap. Once your enemies take the bait, then strike them down. Of course, finding a way to do this will fall onto your thinking. Be whatever you do, be careful. Now that's not to say that every weakness is a great one. Some may not be too weak at all.

The same goes for your strengths. Be careful when applying them. Some fighters will use everything they have and show right in the begining of a battle. That can lead to mistakes, and often times failure. Keep your strengths hidden if you must. You do not need to show them all right away, just bit by bit unless you are in a critical situation. Someone may find a way to get around it and strike YOU down instead. Again, be careful."

The Supreme Trainer contiues with his intstructions.

"The next lesson is personality. No matter how emotionless someone wants to be, each and every person alive has a personality. There is not much to explain wtih this since you are most likely already aware of everything about it, but it never hurts to review. By having a personality you make yourself a more enjoyable person to be around. It also makes it more enjoyable for the person you are fighting during a battle. Tell me, would you like to fight somebody who has life to him? Most people would not. To many, fights are better when all participants have life in them. Techniques and attacks may even be performed better with personality. Now here is what I want you to do: Getting back to the previous lesson, tell me what some of your strenghts and weaknesses are, and how you could defend your weakness. Next, tell me about your personality. What is it like?

*Jade looked at him a moment before she answered, not sure if it was wise or not, but then shrugged*

"Well, I suppose my greatest strengths are my physical strength and my transformation... it takes rage to bring it on, but the transformation to the Dark Goddess makes me stronger and faster, as well as more powerful. My weakness seems to be my lack of control in the beginning of my rage, since I act foolishly... as well as light. Light attacks hurt badly."

*She looked around as the breeze caused her short black hair to gently sway, slowly turning her purple eyes towards the trainer again*

"As for my personality... well... I can be bitchy at times, overconfidant even. Easily angered as well, barbarian nature I suppose. Yet I can also be wise, as the Shaman taught me. The moods shift, which leads me to be chaotic over all else... and a bit paranoid at times."

"Hm, and if you learn to harness your emotions completely they can be used in improve your strength. Even a chaotic nature can prove to be powerful against your enemies if contolled properly. 'Know thy self, and you shall conquer all.' Remember this. Now, I shall give you your final lesson. You've learned about many things since you arrived, so now I shall put some of your knowledge to the test. In battle, you may be faced with an opponent with your same strength or power. Overcoming such an adversary may be difficult and require a lot of strategy. However, if you continue fighting the same way there may be a good chance that you can outlast him, lengthening your attacks, so to speak. Doing this is a great way to intimidate many less experienced fighters, possibly defeating them without lifting a finger. This is what I want you to do, Jade- Show me that you can perfrom a lengthy action and you will have completed this lesson. Your goal for this is to make no less than 8 'sentences' during an action or attack."

The Supreme Trainer motions and calls over another student to stand before you.

"This young person will be your test opponent. He is going to attack you. Do what you must during this lesson, but do not kill him. You must also leave him conscious. You are to use what you have learned. You can use spell charging, the Smash Hit, strategy, basic fighting or all of them combined. You choose what to do. Do you understand? Good. Now then, begin the fight. And remember, at least 8 'sentences'"

The student looks at you and prepares his attack with a fighting stance. A brown hair young man with a fairly muscular build. He seems to be training in the martail arts judging from the lack of weapons in his hand. Suddenly he launches himself forward with a special fast movement technique and draws his fist back for a strong punch

*Jade flapped her leathery batlike wings a few times as she rose into the air, narrowly missing the student's charge. She continued to rise in the air, hovering once she reached 50 feet. Slowly the echoing of a chant could be heard from above, her voice speaking words in Elven and the air becoming crisp and cold with the power she drew upon*

"Maeg ar' ringwe yelamin lle, coria gurtha." (Sharp and cold I call you, violet death.)

*The ground began to frost over slightly, and deep beneath the surface a tremor began. Jade remained focused on her chanting repeating the words over and over, her flaming sword in her hands, held tight against her chest. As moments passed the ground near the surface began to shake as well. The surrounding air now was becoming bitter cold, yet Jade seemed unaffected though she wore only scant barbarian leather and fur*

The student's punch missed and he was left watching you perform your actions above him. The Supreme Trainer motioned him to stand aside and stop the fight, yelling up to you at the same time.

"Nicely done, Jade! You can come down now!"

The Supreme Trainer then used a spell called Ground Zero to thaw the ground. Flames quicly spread out in a circle along the ground, and melted away almost all the ice that formed. Upon your return he walks up to you.

"Good job, Jade. You've done just as I asked. Hopfully you will see that creating lengthy actions will make fights a bit more enjoyable, for both your self and your opponent. The young man here specializes in chi techniques. He had planned to hit you with that energy burst from his palm, but unfortunately for him he was unable to use it. Now then, this concludes the lesson, and essentially, your training. You have successfully learned all knowledge I've given to you. However, remembering and putting it to use will be up to you. There are also other things to learn during your journey, but I have left those for you to find yourself. Congratulations."

Supreme Trainer calls forth several people to gather around and tells you to step forward. He pulls out his shining sword from its golden sheath and raises it up. The sunlight made it shimmer and it almost seemed to let off a glow of its own. He brings it down and gently rests it on top of your head as he begins to announce something.

"I hereby decree that this young woman, Jade, has been given my blessing as a warrior, as well as the spirits that dwell within thy sword! Let all know that he has the knowledge from my teachings and will be protected and guided by them during his time as a warrior. His journey may be long and difficult, but he will overcome any obstacles."

The Supreme Trainer sheaths his sword and places his hands upon your shoulders. Everyone applauds as they stare at a new champion standing before them.

"A joyous moment this is, Jade. Indeed it is. As a reward, I will give you something very special." The Supreme Trainer reaches inside his shirt behind his chest plating and pulls out an unsual looking tan rock with an engraving on it. He holds it out to you so you can get a good look.

"This rock is not what it seems. Although it looks ordinary enough, it something very rare and special. It is called a "God Mod" stone. Do you know what one is, Jade?

Yes
No

So, do you understand? Excellent. This is what has been protecting me from your attacks. I pray you use it only when you have to. You are about to set out on journey different from everybody else's. It would seem to be like a quest, but it is not. I do not know the nature of this feeling, but you should know about it. Take caution and look out for yourself. Things and events may not be what they seem. Now, go. Begin your new lifestyle and become a grand person. Your true life has just begun....
