2. ACT: Advanced Character Training

Not too long after you set out on your journey you finally reach your destination: The great and beautiful kingdom in which the grand and famous Supreme Trainer resides- Avalus, a medieval kingdom with futuristic assets. You walk through the people-filled streets and admire the liveliness of the place. Odd-shaped hover-carriages glide just a couple above the ground and pass you with a constant, noisy hum. Someone offers you a ride to see the trainer and you gladly accept. Upon arriving at the gates of the Grand Palace you are escorted to the royal training center where the trainer awaits. A few other people are there as well, sparring with each other in the background. The trainer, older, but strong looking, walks up and welcomes you, then suggests to get started.

"Well, young warrior, we have much to do. In order for you to survive out in the world as a fighter you must learn just how to do it. That is what I am going to help you with today. You will learn just about everything there is to know on how to fight. You will go through 9 lessons during this session, of which some will be together. Now, let's waste no time. The first subject will be attacking and magic usage. Everybody should know how to do these, yes, but it is good to review even the basics.

Your basic attack is nothing more than trying to hit your opponent. You describe what you are doing and what the attack will do, but not so that you control if he gets hit. Magic is the same way. You use a spell and say what it does. I will not go further into this because you should already know this. So, what I want for you to do is to attack me physically, and then if you use magic, cast a spell at me.

Xeios nodded and slid his right foot backwards, he placed a hand upon Shinfu, his powerful katana. His yellow eyes pierced through the sunglasses he wore on his face, and the color seemed bright. Xeios let a grin fall upon his face, as he slowly drew the weapon. His left hand lifted the sheath from his side, and was held backwards. Xeios dropped his face to the floor and in a second had moved to eet the advanced trainer and brought the sheath of the weapon towards the man's ribs on the right side. From the left side of the old man a small needle made magically of blood flew at the old man's arms. The needle stops the blood flow past the point of contact... Both attacks moved extremely quickly, and they would hit at the same time...

From the impact of the sheath, the Supreme Trainer is nearly knocked of balance. He quickly catches himself and pulls up straight. A small crunch was heard from the impact, but it was unclear whether any bones were broken. The blood needle remained stuck in his arm, until suddenly it mysterious begins to sink into his skin. The Supreme Trainer smiles with satisfaction of your performance, and appears not to be in pain.

"Good attack," he said. "That was a rather quick one. You may be wondering why it seems I was unaffected by your attack. Many are when they first train with me. I can not tell you now, but you will know soon enough, young warrior. You can expect this same phenomenon during the rest of your time with me.

The Supreme Trainer contiues on with his teachings.

"Well, do you not have any magical attacks? Or maybe you had simply forgotten. Next I'll will tell you about spell charging. In this realm, the casting of high level magic spells requires you to gather enough energy for it. A level one or two spell does not need a great amount, therefore you are able to use them instantly. Anything beyond a level two spell has to be "charged". The amount of time needed is called a "post". One post of charging is needed for a level three spell. Two posts are needed for level 4, and the amount of posts required keeps raising by one for each level you want to use. Be careful about when you want use a high level spell, for you cannot attack or defend while doing so, making yourself vulnerable. However, setting up a defense beforehand is a strategy you can use. Now, I want you to use a post charge a spell and then cast it on me during the next one. If you do not use magic, then you can simply use one of your skills. If you have no high level skill then we will proceed with the next lesson.

A grin appeared once more on Xeios' face. The supreme trainer had not relized Xeios using a reserve amount of energy to charge up another attack from last turn. Xeiosslid his weapon away, but still held the sheath. From the ground an prison-like ice chamber rose, attempting to surround the trainer. And when the ice would enclose the trainer, the temperature inside of it would drastically drop.

As the ice began to form around the Supreme Trainer he stood still with no sign of fear. A faint glow quickly emitted from his body and his body continued to stay warm.

"Good work," he said. " Now then, we shall move on to the next lesson, a simple, but very strong skill that is uniqe to this realm. It's called a 'Smash Hit'. A Smash Hit is a very strong physical blow to your opponent. All you need to do is focus your strength to your weapon and strike. The blow will send your target flying back with a great amount of damage inflicted, and even has the possibility of sending the opponent out of the area. The Smash Hit, although powerful, is controlled by a "randomizor" It is something that exists in another realm. This means that on a scale of 1 to 100% accuracy, the higher the accuracy is the more power and damage it will produce. In order for a Smash Hit to connect, it must have an accuracy of 25% or greater. Any less than that and you will miss. However, should you achieve a hit with 95% or higher then your opponent will most likely be knocked out of the area, imitating and "instant kill". One special thing to note is that with good aim and strategy, you can can knock a foe into other enemies and cause indirect damage. Do this with 95% or greater accuracy and may also knock those opponts out of the area as well. A versatile attack the Smash Hit is. All you have to do is perfrom the attack and wait to see what happens. Now that you know how to do a Smash Hit, I want you to do it to me. If you miss then you will do it over again."

The Supreme Trainer stands ready to receive a blow. He is confident that you will successfully hit him on your first try

Xeios' hands began glowing faintly red, theblood magic was rushing to his hands and into his weapons. His hands did not even seem to move as he sent a massive slash for the trainers legs. The slash was Xeios' form of a Smash Hit, it would move very quickly and cause damage equivalent to the type of weapon used. For example, a sword would do more damage than a fist because of the weapon type...

The blow from your Smash Hit connects with 36% accuracy. The Supreme Trainer is knocked off his feet and lands hard on the ground. After getting up he comments on your attack.

"Well, you've successfully hit me. Good job. However, judging from the lack of strength you must have had a low accuracy. No matter. You could have just as easily gotten a high percentage. Hopefully now you understand the concept behind the Smash Hit. If not, then we can continue discuss it. In this next lesson, You will learn about strategy and being fair."

The Supreme Trainer paces for a moment while beginning his explanation or the teaching.

"You may already have good strategy to your attacks, but nonetheless, it never hurts to review them. If you don't, then this will help you think and use them more during your future battles. Most people, when they fight, use the overly common hack-and-slash method and take turns trading blow. Essentially, this is the core of fighting. But, there is an old workplace saying that can be applied to battles- 'Work smarter, not harder'. This means think of something smart to do so you don't have to strain yourself or risk your life as much just to defeat an enemy. To do this you can use strategy. For instance, if there are many foes standing before you, but they are in a straight line behind each other, what are you going to do? You could take them on all at once or one by one, OR, if you are able to fire a piercing projectile you could take them all out in one fell swoop. Look for opportunities to make things easier for you. They WILL present themselves in just about every battle. You simply have to make notice of them. The same applies to avoiding an attack. What do you have in your arsental of attacks or spells that you could use to avoid becoming injured? Remember, an attack spell doesn't have to be used for an attack, but can be used for escape. Now, I am going to give you two scenarios. One is for attacking, while the other is for dodging.

For the first scenario, you are in an ice cave. You stand on one ledge above a chasm with an emeny stands on one on the other side. Your attacks are unable to reach, and you're not able to use magic. However, on the ceiling above, a large, very hard, yet light-weight icicle has become loose and is dropping to a position right infront of you. What can you do with it?

For the other scenario, several arrows are flying your way after being shot. You are in an open field, but running would take too long, and creating a barrier would prove to be ineffective. What can you do to avoid the arrows? If you can not do anything within your power, do not be afraid to get hit.

Xeios pictures the icicle shaking loosely in his mind. The icicle begins to fall, and Xeios thinks of the obvious plan to grab the icicle and throw it. But, with a twist. When his hand touches the icicle, he throwas it at a great speed to the wall by the chasm, the icicle slides along the wall and is sent off a lip at the opponent, reaching him from the side. He then dictates this vision to his teacher.

The arrows were flying straight for Xeios, but he noticed a pattern in the way the arrows were flying. They were targeting a large area where he was, and to either side of him. He thought fast. He had rolled far ahead and then layed down flat, the arrows passed over him, narrowly avoiding most pain, Xeios rose to one knee after hte arrows passed over him, and held his revolvers prepared to attack the enemy archers.

He also dictated this vision to his teacher hoping it would be good enough to pass the test.

The Supreme Trainer receives both of your visions in his mind, and after a quick surprising moment analyzes them. He nods his head when finished and speaks to you.

"Hm, I see. Those are decent strategies you have come up with. However one thing you could have done in the first scenario is hit the icicle as it is falling at the enemies on the other side. Whether or not that would have done the job is something that remains to be seen. As for the second one, as long as you did what you could with the powers you have then it is good enough. Just make sure something like works if you ever find your self in a similar situation. You have provided me with satistactory explaination, so with that, we will continue. You are doing well, today, Xeios. There are only 3 more lessons for me to teach you."

The wind blows softly through the air as you await his instructions.

"This lesson is comprised to two- strenghts and weakness, and personality. First is strengths and weakness. Everybody has them both. Even the gods above us have them both. No living thing is invunerable to everything, and that is why we have strategies for fighting. Speaking of which,t strategy will be tied in with this lesson. Everybody likes to show off their strengths, but not their weakness. It's not something you'd like to do while participating in a battle. Some people have no methods of defending against an attack on their weakness. Thus "cheating" ensues. I implore not to cheat during a battle. It does not looks good, and nobody likes it. It is something you have to deal with on a fair basis. You must find a way to overcome your faults by utilizing your other skills. Let your strengths defend your weaknesses. I'll even let you in on a little secret: if you can, let your weakness be a lure for a trap. Once your enemies take the bait, then strike them down. Of course, finding a way to do this will fall onto your thinking. Be whatever you do, be careful. Now that's not to say that every weakness is a great one. Some may not be too weak at all.

The same goes for your strengths. Be careful when applying them. Some fighters will use everything they have and show right in the begining of a battle. That can lead to mistakes, and often times failure. Keep your strengths hidden if you must. You do not need to show them all right away, just bit by bit unless you are in a critical situation. Someone may find a way to get around it and strike YOU down instead. Again, be careful."

The Supreme Trainer contiues with his intstructions.

"The next lesson is personality. No matter how emotionless someone wants to be, each and every person alive has a personality. There is not much to explain wtih this since you are most likely already aware of everything about it, but it never hurts to review. By having a personality you make yourself a more enjoyable person to be around. It also makes it more enjoyable for the person you are fighting during a battle. Tell me, would you like to fight somebody who has life to him? Most people would not. To many, fights are better when all participants have life in them. Techniques and attacks may even be performed better with personality. Now here is what I want you to do: Getting back to the previous lesson, tell me what some of your strenghts and weaknesses are, and how you could defend your weakness. Next, tell me about your personality. What is it like?

Xeios nodded to the advanced trainer.

"My strengths involve Blood magic, Telekinisis or Psychic capabilities, Ice magic, extensive sword arts, Defensive magic, and Speed."

Xeios hesitated for a moment...

"A true magician never reveals his major flaw. At least not purposefully. But I assure you I have a great way to defend against this flaw. But more of a personality flaw is, I tend to underestimate my combatants, and I tend to act rashly while I have been angered. If I can calm myself down, I am much more rational, and I often can find better ways out of things."

Xeios thought for a moment, His personality, how would he describe this?

"My personality is what you see from my appearance. A cool, calm exterior, with a general grasp on what is right and good. My means of aquiring those good intentions ofter are led by paths of evil, or destruction. I take little from those who I meet. I try to learn at every possible point. I am a loner, I enjoy being alone, there is no need for friends, but if the right person comes along, maybe I will open up. I am very respectful, and am hardly wavered from that path. Disrespect tortures me, and one who is disrespectful is usually found punished. If I find the weakness of one I am fighting, I exploit that weakness to the extent I can. But no one these days seems to have a weakness..."

Xeios sighed, his eyes never wavered from the trainers' and he was speaking the total truth. in regards to his weakness though, he could not reveal the one thing which could hurt him more than anything else. For defensive purposes...

The Supreme Trainer nodded with acknowledgement. "Very good, young Xeios. Unlike some of the warriors I have seen in my time, you've told someone about yourself with great detail. 'Know thy self, and you shall conquer all.' Remember this well. Now, I shall give you your final lesson. You've learned about many things since you arrived, so now I shall put some of your knowledge to the test. In battle, you may be faced with an opponent with your same strength or power. Overcoming such an adversary may be difficult and require a lot of strategy. However, if you continue fighting the same way there may be a good chance that you can outlast him, lengthening your attacks, so to speak. Doing this is a great way to intimidate many less experienced fighters, possibly defeating them without lifting a finger. This is what I want you to do, Xeios. Show me that you can perfrom a lengthy action and you will have completed this lesson. Your goal for this is to make no less than 8 'sentences' during an action or attack."

The Supreme Trainer motions and calls over another student to stand before you.

"This young person will be your test opponent. He is going to attack you. Do what you must during this lesson, but do not kill him. You must also leave him conscious. You are to use what you have learned. You can use spell charging, the Smash Hit, strategy, basic fighting or all of them combined. You choose what to do. Do you understand? Good. Now then, begin the fight. And remember, at least 8 'sentences'"

The student looks at you and prepares his attack with a fighting stance. A brown hair young man with a fairly muscular build. He seems to be training in the martail arts judging from the lack of weapons in his hand. Suddenly he launches himself forward with a special fast movement technique and draws his fist back for a strong punch.

Xeios moved as the test subject moved. Heh, test subject, Xeios found this terminology to be amusing and true. He moved and span. His left hand grasped the pulled back arm of his opponent. With one swift move, he pulled the arm straight, and sent his other arm to oppose the test subjects elbow joint. Upon contact, the elbow would break. With his left leg, Xeios moved it to the back of the man's leg, which upon contact would cause the man to fall. So, in all, this series of techniques would break the enemies arm, and cause him to fall. Xeios was controlling this very well, so the man would fall and hit his head upon the ground. He woud live, but the final contct between the test subject's head, and the ground would secure that the man be knocked unconscious.

The young fighter was being pushed back and into a take down. He didn't feel he was going too fast, so he had time to avoid taking a hit to the ground by archign his body backward to do a back hand spring and propel himself off the ground. His attack was foiled but there were other ways to get blow to connect. The Supreme Trainer suddenly put his arm out and the warrior stopped in his tracks. Looking at him, the Supreme Trainer nodded, indicating the fight was over. It barely lasted 15 seconds, but it was enough for you to prove yourself to him. The Warrior stepped off to the side.

"Good job, Xeios. You've done just as I asked. Hopfully you will see that creating lengthy actions will make fights a bit more enjoyable, for both your self and your opponent. The young man here specializes in chi techniques. He had planned to hit you with anenergy burst from his palm, but managed to stop him from doing that. Now then, this concludes the lesson, and essentially, your training. You have successfully learned all knowledge I've given to you. However, remembering and putting it to use will be up to you. There are also other things to learn during your journey, but I have left those for you to find yourself. Congratulations."

Supreme Trainer calls forth several people to gather around and tells you to step forward. He pulls out his shining sword from its golden sheath and raises it up. The sunlight made it shimmer and it almost seemed to let off a glow of its own. He brings it down and gently rests it on top of your head as he begins to announce something.

"I hereby decree that this young man, Xeios, has been given my blessing as a warrior, as well as the spirits that dwell within thy sword! Let all know that he has the knowledge from my teachings and will be protected and guided by them during his time as a warrior. His journey may be long and difficult, but he will overcome any obstacles."

The Supreme Trainer sheaths his sword and places his hands upon your shoulders. Everyone applauds as they stare at a new champion standing before them.

"A joyous moment this is, Xeios. Indeed it is. As a reward, I will give you something very special." The Supreme Trainer reaches inside his shirt behind his chest plating and pulls out an unsual looking tan rock with an engraving on it. He holds it out to you so you can get a good look.

"This rock is not what it seems. Though it looks ordinary enough, it something very rare and special. It is called a "God Mod" stone. Do you know what one is, Vulkar?

Yes
No

So, do you understand? Excellent. I pray you use it only when you have to. You are about to embark on a journey different from everybody else's. It would seem to be like a quest, but it is not. Xeios bows before his master.

"Thank you, and if you do not mind, I shall choose 'Steely Resolve.'"

Xeios fiddles in his left pocket, and pulls a pair of black, shiny, circle sunglasses. He slides them onto his face, to cover his yellow eyes. Xeios grins calmly, he was happy, this 'God mod' Stone culd be of much use later in life...
