2. ACT: Advanced Character Training

Not too long after you set out on your journey you finally reach your destination: The great and beautiful kingdom in which the grand and famous Supreme Trainer resides- Avalus, a medieval kingdom with futuristic assets. You walk through the people-filled streets and admire the liveliness of the place. Odd-shaped hover-carriages glide just a couple above the ground and pass you with a constant, noisy hum. Someone offers you a ride to see the trainer and you gladly accept. Upon arriving at the gates of the Grand Palace you are escorted to the royal training center where the trainer awaits. A few other people are there as well, sparring with each other in the background. The trainer, older, but strong looking, walks up and welcomes you, then suggests to get started.

"Well, young warrior, we have much to do. In order for you to survive out in the world as a fighter you must learn just how to do it. That is what I am going to help you with today. You will learn just about everything there is to know on how to fight. You will go through 9 lessons during this session, of which some will be together. Now, let's waste no time. The first subject will be attacking and magic usage. Everybody should know how to do these, yes, but it is good to review even the basics.

Your basic attack is nothing more than trying to hit your opponent. You describe what you are doing and what the attack will do, but not so that you control if he gets hit. Magic is the same way. You use a spell and say what it does. I will not go further into this because you should already know this. So, what I want for you to do is to attack me physically, and then if you use magic, cast a spell at me.

Though the grand city of Avalus was quite magnificent, Sparda couldn't say he was very much impressed. After all, Ulgath was much more beautiful though it lacked the futuristic assests that Avalus had. He was quite indifferent when he finally met his so called 'grand' trainer. He didn't seem much older than himself.

Nevertheless, he waited and listened to what the man was saying to him, as he began to remove his black cloak and dropping it to the ground, revealing the black mithril chain mail and black leather pants he wore underneath. Grasped somewhat loosely in his right hand was his massive sword, which only he could wield with such ease. It's blade extended to an amazing five and a half feet, boasting incredible cutting and slicing ability.

The moment he heard the 'trainer' finish his sentence, that trainer became his enemy. And Sparda wasted absolutely no time showing that as he dashed forward the moment his opponent finished the word "me". Due to the length of his sword, he didn't have to get too close to the target to make contact. Therefore, standing just within swordplay range for his signature sword, he unleashed a powerful diagonal slash which started from his opponent's lower left side and ended at his upper right side.

As soon as this was accomplished, Sparda used the momentum he had gained from the diagonal slash and used it to roll to the left. When this was done, his left hand shot forward and without any warning, unleashed Decimate at the right side of his trainer's chest. If successful, it would pierce the man's right lung.

Decimate- This ability is a very unique ability and very deadly though it is lacking in some areas. Sparda shoots his hand forward with his index finger pointing at the opponent, or anything else. Using a combination of pure psyche energy as well as his own blood energy, Sparda unleashes a strictly non-elemental beam that is only a half a centimeter in width. Though it travels only in a perfect straight line, its power is devastating, literally able to penetrate anything and everything (except for very rare and extremely extraordinary occasions). The speed in which this thin beam travels is quite great, almost, but not exceeding that of the speed of sound. Deflecting this beam is virtually impossible due to the fact that it will basically penetrate the source of the deflection. Portals or vortexes are rendered useless due to the beam’s special ability to literally rip through them, though whiteholes are an exception (the strength of a whitehole can be calculated as 10 supernovas). This beam cannot be absorbed into something that is not living. If Decimate is absorbed into a being that is in fact living, meaning it can move and or breathe, it will instantly eat away at the opponent’s soul as well as the heart and brain.

The supreme trainer directly takes the hit from both attacks and is stunned when he feels his lung erupt in pain. Bent over, he stands up strong with a straight face as if nothing happend. An energy field then appears around him and heals the wounds you've inflicted.
"Good. You know how to correctly do those. Next I'll will tell you about spell charging. In this realm, the casting of high level magic spells requires you to gather enough energy for it. A level one or two spell does not need a great amount, therefore you are able to use them instantly. Anything beyond a level two spell has to be "charged". The amount of time needed is called a "post". One post of charging is needed for a level three spell. Two posts are needed for level 4, and the amount of posts required keeps raising by one for each level you want to use. Be careful about when you want use a high level spell, for you cannot attack or defend while doing so, making yourself vulnerable. However, setting up a defense beforehand is a strategy you can use. Now, I want you to use a post charge a spell and then cast it on me during the next one. If you do not use magic, then you can simply use one of your skills. If you have no high level skill then we will proceed with the next lesson.

Sparda jumped back, creating a reasonable distance between him and his opponent. For an instant, his physical appearance seemed to fizzle like a television set receiving poor reception. However, though the cause was unknown, it disappeared and his silhoutte was as clear as day. His sword, still grasped loosely in his hand, seemed to give off a strance crimson aura, though in truth, the source of this aura was actually the palm of his right hand. Soon, his entire body seemed to be covered with this magnificent yet enigmatic aura as the energy levels of the warrior seemed to elevate greatly. What could he possibly be planning to use?

Once more, his silhouette and physical image seemed to fizzle and this time, it even appeared to fade away for just a second before reverting back to normal. What could that possibly mean?

"Yes," the supreme trainer commented, " that is good. Now, whenever you're ready, realease the attack. However if you wish, you may continue charging to see how high you can go with your power."

He listened silently to his opponent mentioning something about being able continue charging. Perhaps he should continue elevating his energy so that he could unleash something more devastating? But then again, Sparda wasn't interested in wasting his time. He wasn't exactly very comfortable being trained in the arts he already knew perfectly well. Wanting to get on with the next 'lesson', Sparda decided that his current charging period was more than enough. Thus, as soon as he was ready, he unleashed True Chaos Ver. 1

True Chaos 1- This is a very deadly technique in Sparda’s arsenal due to the fact that it requires very little time to prepare for and that it can inflict massive amounts of damage to the opponent. The entire sky is darkened and becomes distorted. Instantly, the sky rains with deadly burning ashes that can deal severe burns to an opponent, regardless of their immunity to fire. The ashes fall like hail, thus making evasion almost impossible. The cold has absolutely no effect against these burning ashes. The ground also begins to shake violently as ten enormous iron spikes shoot out from the ground, near where the opponent stands. It does not matter whether the opponent evades the spikes for their true purpose is not to be used as a thrusting weapon. The iron spikes gather massive amounts of energy in just a few moments and unleash an explosion 500,000 feet in diameter and 100,000 feet high. The explosions can not only deal massive damage to the opponent, it can also deal severe burns that deal lasting damage to the opponent throughout the battle as well as blinding the opponent temporarily due to the ultraviolet properties of the blast. This technique may not be used by anyone but Sparda. Absorbing it will cause instant death due to the ever changing properties of the blast. The iron spikes are actually unbreakable, due to foreign substance injected within the iron properties. Using this powerful technique, however, requires that Sparda temporarily disable his psychic abilities for just one post.

"Aaaah!!"

Screams are heard from the others as they are injured and flee in fear of the chaos around them. The supreme trainer, surrounded by the large protruding spikes, is covered with fire, but he soon waves his arm around and wipes the flames away from his body as if they were a solid substance.

"Hmm, good. You may have wondered why I did not seem to be affected by your attack. You will find out soon enough. However, I must ask that your refrain from conjuring up such power. There are other training here in this courtyard, and they do not deserve to be disturbed. Do you understand? Good. Now then, we shall move on to the next lesson, a simple, but very strong skill that is uniqe to this realm. It's called a 'Smash Hit'. A Smash Hit is a very strong physical blow to your opponent. All you need to do is focus your strength to your weapon and strike. The blow will send your target flying back with a great amount of damage inflicted, and even has the possibility of sending the opponent out of the area. The Smash Hit, although powerful, is control by randomization. This means that on a scale of 1 to 100% accuracy, the higher the accuracy is the more power and damage it will produce. In order for a Smash Hit to connect, it must have an accuracy of 25% or greater. Any less than that and you will miss. However, should you achieve a hit with 95% or higher then your opponent will most likely be knocked out of the area, imitating and "instant kill". One special thing to note is that with good aim and strategy, you can can knock a foe into other enemies and cause indirect damage. Do this with 95% or greater accuracy and may also knock those opponts out of the area as well. A versatile attack the Smash Hit is. Now that you know how to a Smash Hit, I want you to do it to me. If you miss then you will do it over again."

The Supreme Trainer stands ready to receive a blow. He is confident that you will successfully hit him on your first try.

The term "Smash hit" was certainly one he was unfamiliar with. But then again, he was expected to be encountered with new things in such a strange land. He patiently waited and listened to his opponent before nodding and standing quite still.

"Focus strength? That's practically what I do all the time."

Despite the fact that it sounded quite new to him, he did as he was told. He began to focus his strength into the deadly weapon that was grasped loosely in his hand. Then, like a raging bull, he dashed forward and unleashed an incredible horizontal slash at the trainer's chest.

Your attack strikes the Supreme Trainer with 31% accuracy. The Supreme Trainer gets knocked off his feet and onto the ground. The attack was too weak to knock him back. He stands back up and comments on the blow.

"You see, that's how it works. You must have had a very low accuracy with your attack. I was only hit to the ground. But that's the way it works. You could've just as easily had a high percentage and thrown me all the way to wall on the far side of this courtyard. Either way, the "Randomizer" controls how you hit. So, do you understand how the Smash Hit works? If not then say so, otherwise we shall continue on. In this lesson, You will learn about strategy and being fair."

The Supreme Trainer paces for a moment while beginning his explanation or the teaching.

"You may already have good strategy to your attacks, but nonetheless, it never hurts to review them. If you don't, then this will help you think and use them more during your future battles. Most people, when they fight, use the overly common hack-and-slash method and take turns trading blow. Essentially, this is the core of fighting. But, there is an old workplace saying that can be applied to battles- 'Work smarter, not harder'. This means think of something smart to do so you don't have to strain yourself or risk your life as much just to defeat an enemy. To do this you can use strategy. For instance, if there are many foes standing before you, but they are in a straight line behind each other, what are you going to do? You could take them on all at once or one by one, OR, if you are able to fire a piercing projectile you could take them all out in one fell swoop. Look for opportunities to make things easier for you. They WILL present themselves in just about every battle. You simply have to make notice of them. The same applies to avoiding an attack. What do you have in your arsental of attacks or spells that you could use to avoid becoming injured? Remember, an attack spell doesn't have to be used for an attack, but can be used for escape. Now, I am going to give you two scenarios. One is for attacking, while the other is for dodging.

For the first scenario, you are in an ice cave. You stand on one ledge above a chasm with an emeny stands on one on the other side. Your attacks are unable to reach, and you're not able to use magic. However, on the ceiling above, a large, very hard, yet light-weight icicle has become loose and is dropping to a position right infront of you. What can you do with it?

For the other scenario, several arrows are flying your way after being shot. You are in an open field, but running would take too long, and creating a barrier would prove to be ineffective. What can you do to avoid the arrows? If you can not do anything within your power, do not be afraid to get hit.

Sparda simply stared, attempting to restrain himself. This was getting ridiculous. But nevertheless, he'd have to cooperate in order to advance.

"Scenario 1. The Icicle. I'll simply use psychic waves to grasp the the icicle and launch it at my opponent on the other side. As for Scenario 2, I can actually do two things. One is simply use my psychic waves again to freeze the arrows midair. Or, I can simply conjur a great pyrokinetic wave in front of me and launch them at the arrows, rendering them to ashes. Of course, it wouldn't really matter since the arrows can't pierce my mithril chain mail."
