Do you have any restaurants that you're getting or rumored to be getting? For me, we could be getting two Five Guys (One on both sides of the river), another Olive Garden (We have one in Davenport already) and probably a Portillo's. I'm sure some of you guys have heard of Portillo's right? They are a hot dog place. Apparently the CEO is from Moline so we kind of have an in. I first found out about these plans when Mark Manuel (A guy who works for Q106.5 KCQQ which is classic rock. You might know him from a rock station at 94.5(?) in Des Moines IA (If his name sounds familiar) before he went on to do top 40 at WHTS before switching to classic rock when WHTS was sold to EMF and dumped for Christian music making, at that time KBEA B100 the only Top 40 station until KUUL dumped oldies for the format in 2012) posted a story saying that he was watching Breakfast with... on WQAD where they announced these plus other development plans. If you want to see the story about this, do so here.

We don't have one here, but I really want to get an In-and-Out Burger where I live. It was pretty fantastic when I was back in California, and I'd be pretty pleased to have one here.

Otherwise, we kind of have more restaurants than I could want around where I live, so I'm pretty pleased here.

I'd love to have one here as well. I don't think there are any that close to us. A good restaurant we had briefly was 100 Montaditos which we had in Davenport but it closed abruptly and the owner (Who had owned a Jewelry store that he had closed to do this) had wanted to open up more franchises in places such as Moline IL, Iowa City IA, Cedar Rapids IA and Des Moines IA but it never happened with the Davenport store closing and now becoming a Barrel House restaurant. If you live in Florida, you'll see a lot of 100 Montaditos down there since the US locations are headquartered in Florida.

I've lived with In-N-Out around the corner for years and while I do like it, I just don't get why there are always absurd drive-thru lines. Putting down In-N-Out is sort of sacrilegious.

But then again, my cousin up in Sacramento has a freaking Dutch Bros right outside her neighborhood and she's never tried it and doesn't see the point. Best coffee chain EVER, and we sadly don't have any of them within 400 miles of L.A.

Anyway, I finally tried Shake Shack, which we've only recently gotten in the L.A. area. It was really good. I like it a lot better than In-N-Out and Five Guys.

Not sure what we're getting, though. Looking it up we're apparently going to have one of Mark Wahlberg's family's burger joints. I guess it fits. We've got a ton of celebrity-owned places. Many of which fail.

Oh right, and everyone's losing their minds about how we're getting a Cracker Barrel. I could swear there used to be one down the street when I was kid.

I still need to try the Pie 5 that went up here recently. I guess it's like Chipotle but with pizza.

You heard of Pancheros? They are basically the exqct same thing as chipotle (they serve mexican food) but based out of Iowa City and only a midwest chain. I think they might be cheaper but can't remember.

You are not crazy, there was one on South and Palo Verde (Where Rosewood is now... I pulled up google map to check)

I am totally going to hit up that Shake Shack when I get back out there, though. One less reason to go to NYC now... at least foodwise.

As for around here... uh... we got our first Starbucks. People lost their minds.

Just avoid Cracker Barrel. You should not have to salt the bacon especially if they get the Hormel bacon unless they make it themselves then it could be 1. They never salted it or 2. They used to salt it but the old people complained so they stopped and decided to let them salt their own things.

The hype is to be believed. Their burgers are definitely hand-formed and are super tender and tasty. We tried the one in Hollywood while we were in the area for something. There's also one in Glendale.

Just looked it up and there's only four out here, all up in L.A. gravitating toward the westside (West Hollywood, Santa Monica are the other locations.)

Have any of you guys heard of Happy Joe's pizza? They have locations in; Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Arizona. Their pizza is really good as well. If any of you guys have plan to visit Davenport (or the other four surrounding cities such as East Moline) or are going to be driving through at lunch time and have time for a full-service restaurant (not fast-food) then I recommend you check out Happy Joe's Pizza Grille which has more than just pizza. You can check them out here. I guess I should mention that Olive Garden has been confirmed for Moline IL as well as Panda Express and Popeyes for the same area.

Never heard of it. Don't think I've ever seen it any of the times I'm in Arizona.

Here, in Southern California, seems like more people are interested in getting the latest food craze down from Portland or convincing another ramen shop from Japan to open a branch of their restaurant in Greater Los Angeles.

Another craze are the viral marketing campaigns for shows and movies. Example: we had a "Bob's Burgers" pop-up restaurant for the better part of a week so people could eat some of the crazy board specials from the show. I didn't hear ANYTHING good about it. Another recent example was how the jazz club from "La La Land," would be coming to life for one night in Long Beach.

Then, of course, there's the fact that Chinatown has turned into hipster food mecca with all these Cajun and spicy Nashville chicken places cropping up, particularly in the Wing Hop strip mall.

It's just one location in Glibert Arizona I think so unless you've been to Gilbert Arizona then you would probably not have seen one (and the Gilbert AZ one is one of their newer locations) but if you have any plans to visit Davenport Iowa in the future (or the towns right across the river in Illinois), I do recommend you check out the Happy Joe's Pizza Grille which features more than just their pizza such as sandwiches and even a buffet along with their signature Joegurt. Locations can be found in the link I posted before your reply (although the locations page isn't working right now but the rest of the site works) You can even own your own location so if you wanted to bring one to California, you could do so if you wanted to. You can even have their pizzas shipped to you if you wanted to try them out.

While I am not one to turn my nose up at cajun and spicy Nashville chicken, I just don't see how any of that belongs in Chinatown.

Agreed, Chinatown should feature Chinese food and not KFC or KFC clones.

The drive-thru ramen place that people have been losing their shit about finally opened ... to mediocre reviews. And even then, the drive-thru portion hasn't opened yet.

Not sure how it's all going to work. Ramen disintegrates once it's all put together and hits the table. You have to eat it right away, especially while it's hot.

That's an interesting place! Is the drive through set up sonic style in that you eat in your car?

Nope. It's like a typical fast food restaurant drive-thru where they just want you to buy it and drive away.
