Looks like I might be heading Vegas for a couple days after all.

Yesterday when I mentioned to my grandmother that I would drive her out she started throwing a fit about not wanting to go even though she had spent the day before moping about not getting to go.

I guess my parents are up for the trip now.

Well, I can reconnect with some friends at there at least.

Heading out to Arizona now. And it's raining! Yay...

Another class finally reported in my grade. Now I have a B+ in feature writing, a B in graphic novels (she's a TOUGH grader on papers), and an A in upper division American studies Theory.

... the sun is starting to rise.

Back from Arizona. Great trip. Hiked in the snow to Native American ruins, toured caverns, walked around Tombstone while it was lightly snowing, and drove out to the middle of the desert to watch a meteor shower.

I'm doing a convention next weekend with Stitch and other friends. Then the weekend after is another road trip to see Brandon's dad before I have to start classes and my internship.

My final grades have finally posted for the semester. I worked my ass off writing papers and studying and came out with three As and two Bs. Woot.

Stitch gave me his spare pass for Anime L.A., so I'm there through tomorrow. I went yesterday. It's pretty much a cosplay con.

This is probably the coolest pic I took yesterday. Unfortunately it was night time and the Scott Pilgrim's sword soaked up ALL the light, so this photo went through some HEAVY editing.

I'm in San Francisco, writing this from my hostel room just before we check out and hang around the city before heading down to Bakersfield to spend the rest of the trip with my boyfriend's dad.

It's been a fascinating trip thus far. We'll be back in SoCal in a few days.

I start classes again on Monday. With any luck it will be my last semester.

I START SCHOOL AT SIX IN THE MORNING. WHY AREN'T I SLEEPING?!?!?!?!

I love when my insomnia strikes when I most need sleep. It's like a childhood bully.

Also, Rogue, that Scott Pilgrim vs. Tron pic looks FUCKING AWESOME.

I know that feeling. I've frequently only gone to bed an hour or two before I was either supposed to wake up for something or an hour or two before I had to be somewhere important.

Glad you like the photo.

I just got off the phone with my employer for my internship. I'm excited. Interning only 2 days a week, Tuesday and Thursday, and going to classes three days a week.

Heading back toward home today. Shooting photos of Voidcrush's gig tonight in Anaheim.

Tomorrow'll probably be spent watching my grandmother and then it's my last weekend of freedom for a few weeks.

Ugh. If only I were able to accomplish such feats.

So today there was a big snow storm. I still got up at 6 to go to school for my 8 o'clock class. Of course, when I get there, my class is the only one that is canceled.

At first, it was no big deal because I have another class at 9. So I went to the library and screwed around for a little. Come 8:40-ish, everyone finds out that they finally decided to shut down the school for the day.

It amazes me. One day we get not even 2 inches and there's a delay, but they still call me in during a blizzard just to walk right out again.

I suppose it's the excitement and stress culminating in a completely sleepless night that you're somehow able to sit through and then get up on time for the thing you need to do. I've got my second day of my internship tomorrow and I need to be there by 8:30.

But yeah, so my internship. Started a couple days ago. I'm writing (actually re-writing) news briefs. Tomorrow's my first 9-5 day.

Started classes this week too. I'm taking Asian American Film & Video, the Proseminar for American studies, and the corresponding class for my internship. Thankfully the film class is like a couple writing assignments and a group presentation. The Proseminar, however, is pretty much writing a dissertation that we have to brainstorm and talk with the professor about in private, then present on and turn in AFTER classes are supposed to be over already.

I'm walking at graduation and I STILL have to turn this 25-page paper in the next week.

On top of all this, there's the stress about money and how to make a lot of it quickly. Shit... I really don't know what I'm going to do.

I'm sitting at my desk at my internship and my brain is turning to mush writing news briefs. I went to bed around 2 this morning since I was hanging around Chinatown for the new year's celebrations.

I've got a presentation to put together for next week with this guy I just met yesterday. We have to present on "The Good Earth" film. Lots to talk about really: yellow face (whites performing Asian roles in film), the madonna/whore juxtaposition in depicting Asian women (you're either a self-sacrificing peasant or a manipulative prostitute in the book/film), the whole showing sympathy toward the Chinese during the 1930s as a way of trying to get them to ally with us against Japan, etc.

I might as well take my lunch now since my boss went out already. Not sure where I want to walk to today.

Thankfully this is my last day this week. Gotta watch my grandmother tomorrow, but at least I can melt into an anime series or the delightful stack of graphic novels I picked up yesterday at the library.

Edit: I thought I put this already. Congrats on the internship, Rogue! <333

Oiy. I can't WAIT for this week to be over. I'm spending the majority of my "downtime" here, because typing is relaxing. I have 40 hours this week at work. Which usually isn't bad. But my store manager is on vacation this week. And while he is fucking AWESOME. Always accessible, and doesn't find it beneath him to do whatever it takes to make sure the store is run properly, and that we're all taken care of, even his other managers, my District Manager said he MUST be completely inaccessable this week.

Why? Because I am being offered a promition. But the offer is banking on how this week goes. My store needs to get "numbers" (subs, reserves, all that shit us GameStop people torment you over everytime you go in? Yeah. We get no commission for that or anything. We just get to keep our jobs. And some of us, myself included, actually CARE that you get that card that will save you about 5 bucks on your PS3-360 games, thus, annually, actually saving people money.) But yeah...plus there's all sorts of other shit. My DM told the other managers to back off. If there's any problem when I'm NOT there, to call me. And I can't go to my manager. I can only go to the DM. It's supposedly "more difficult." but my store manager gives me free reign anyway. I just have to consult him for formality. Seriously. When I have to call him, the conversation goes as follows "Hey Steve, it's---" "Yeah yeah, whatever. Do what you think is best." Which is awesome, by the way. Makes life HELLA easier at work.

That and I was also commissioned by the company to pull some artworkshit outta my ass. My district is running an experiment, so...and I have a few other commissions...**headdesk** Oiy. I have over 100 hours worth of work this week, that's for sure. And sleep must fit in there somehow...and food. XD

Thanks, Katana. It's great getting the puzzle piece laid down in order to graduate.

Speaking of graduating, my freaking transcripts keep dropping classes off of those counting toward my majors. Thankfully, the American Studies department is at bat for me, while the College of Communications keeps trying to strike me out.

Anyway, this weekend SHALL BE EPIC.

Thursday, we're leaving for Arizona right after I get out of work. Friday and Saturday we're at a wild west steampunk convention. Then Sunday we're going to the Renaissance faire in Apache Junction -- my absolute favorite faire.

Leaving for San Francisco tonight for a comic convention with Stitch and a friend of his.

It's the beginning of a string of weekends where I'm either doing a convention or a Renaissance faire or something of the like.

Gonna be interesting.

Thankfully, I'm leaving Southern California during a heatwave. SF will have a high of 61 this weekend.

Ah, heatwaves... the one thing I do not miss about California. Are you going to AX or any place that sells anime figures? If so, I might have a mission for you.

I myself seem to be experiencing the antithesis of busy lately. The boredom is killing me.

I am heading to AX in July, but what are you looking for?

There's always an avenue in getting what you want in the geekverse at any time. My cousin's still got distributor connections through his old business.

The Danbo figure from Yotsuba! Specifically the amazon box version. I want to get it for Ben as a birthday gift since I couldn't get it for an anniversary present... the only way I could find one online and not pay a fortune was via Japanese Amazon and I could not figure out how to do anything since I cannot read the language to save my life.

WonderCon was surprisingly deficient in anime merch.

This weekend we're heading up to Ridgecrest to visit Brandon's dad, since he's moved even further away than Bakersfield.

I've got the rough draft of a HUGE paper due in two weeks and I've been really stressed and worried about a lot of things right now. My internship employer also wants me to turn over a ton of writing. FUCK.

Best of luck on the test, Elara. Unless you already took it. In that case, hope you did great.

It's been rather busy on this end.

Spent Friday through Sunday in central California with Brandon's dad.

Saturday was one of the greatest days of my life - went out early to hit up the thrift stores and found a bed warmer from the Chicken Ranch (this famous whorehouse that was in Texas that was shut down, but inspired a Broadway musical and movie) and the cleaned-up Star Wars VHS boxset (really it's the best version, because it's all the original stuff, clearer, and there's no added CG scenes or bullshit like that). After breakfast, we headed out in Brandon's dad's truck up to Fossil Falls (these volcanic rocks eroded by a river that has since dried up), up to Whitney Portal to see Mount Whitney, and then we visited Manzanar. It was really intense.

Sunday was also pretty cool. Went to ghost towns and canyons before heading home.

Yesterday was Brandon's and my seventh anniversary. We went to a freak show with all kinds of living animals with extra heads and legs, and all sorts of crazy, wonderful things.

This week's insanely busy otherwise. Interviewing people tomorrow for a story, and taking pictures of the carnivorous plants at school on Thursday for work (as well as... yep, work) and then going to an Asian activist meeting. Friday, I'm watching my grandmother and shooting a Voidcrush show, and Saturday is a comic book convention and Brandon and I are being extras for a webseries.

Got a 25-page rough draft due on Tuesday. I'm kinda excited about it. And worried. Yeah, worried.

Need to write a story for work on steampunk before the weekend. Oh man...
