The video a few posts above is the official Metroid 2 remake (can you see the video?)

Basically... I'm never a huge fan of the 2.5D polygonal style for sidescrollers. Mega Man X8 is one that comes to mind, or like Shadow Complex back when that was new and fun, this stuff always seems so visually forgettable to me. I guess it's cool the 3DS is a bit more powerful and the style looks similar to the Prime series, but I'm always a way bigger fan of sprites.

There are at least some indie games carrying the torch. I absolutely loved Momodora Reverie Under the Moonlight and Axiom Verge, both of which fit the Metroidvania formula too!

Frankly, the official Metroid 2 remake looks good... but I don't think it looks half as good as AM2R.

Yeah, it's great as I say to see fan developers finally getting recognition, and it seems even better that it should happen exactly a year after AM2R's release, at least judging from your post date.

You mean Christian Whitehead by the Sonic Mania head developer, he also worked on the S1&2 mobile ports and Sonic CD. I think Stealth, who worked on 'Sonic Genesis Done Right' for the GBA also is on the team, and was involved in the redesign of Hidden Palace Zone on the mobile port of S2 among some other things.

Could you link a video of the official Metroid 2 remake? Meanwhile, I'm going to play AM2R in WINE later tomorrow, hopefully it works!

One of the lead developers of AM2R now has a professional game design job at Moon Studios! Glad to see fan developers are getting this type of respect!

Yup, I can see that. Funny enough I don't think this official one looks as good as AM2R haha...

But I'm very excited to see we're getting two official Metroid's again. Time to get a 3DS finally!

Lots of gameplay here:

Yup. I think 1.1 is the latest version I know of.

Just thought I would bump this:
Since AM2R was taken down due to DMCA, its download link was removed from the official site.

A quick search showed that you can still download it from here, though.

Yeah, that's true. I'm going to look for a converter, but cool looking controllers anyway

I am sure there has to be a converter for it nowadays, check amazon maybe? I've had one for PS2 controllers for about a decade now. Always loved how well that worked for SNES emulation, since the Dual Shock layout is basically the same thing.

Nowadays there's high quality replica SNES/Genesis pads though, wired or wireless with bluetooth that I hear are pretty good. I might get some to check them out someday.

Tried looking for some Xbox converter... but as always the "Xbox One" name certainly doesn't make OG Xbox searching easy.

I have an original Xbox controller, how would I connect it to my PC?

Found this.

It worked perfectly with my Xbone controller too. Definitely recommended with a gamepad.

Great! I'll take a look around and also check Zero Mission too, sounds pretty cool. Hope it works and thanks!

I would think it should work with Vista, not positive though. You'll have to find a download link elsewhere though, I can maybe look around.

It's very faithful, but also stands out as its own thing. I replayed Zero Mission (considered to be one of the best gaming remakes ever) and it's of the same caliber to me. I like this more than Fusion even. It's incredible stuff and I clocked in about four and half hours on it.

I still love the original NES Metroid, but if you can't get into it maybe try out Super or Zero Mission for an entry point.

I've never played any of the metroid series but I feel obliged to support developers, will it work with windows vista SP2 or not?

Just want to know before trying it, and how faithful is it to the original?
